  1. I think you're doing the right thing, Mom, considering you yourself are celiac. The one week off gluten will probably not make a difference. You may get a positive or he may not yet have enough damage since he is young. Either way, I am sure you will give him a good 3-6 month gluten free trial after the EGD. I am sure you know from what you have read...
  2. You can look at the current results and find out. That's why I asked if you could get a copy. It is always a good idea to do this and keep your own file. Sometimes these things just get filed and not looked, or are looked at with an inexperienced or jaundiced eye. No one is as interested in your health as you are
  3. Welcome, evelyn. You are about to embark on what may be one of the most frustrating experiences life has to offer us -- trying to get an accurate celiac diagnosis This is compounded by the fact that you have been gluten free for over a month. The normal procedure is to ask your doctor for a full celiac panel consisting of the following tests: ...
  4. On the blood tests the labs nomally give three ranges: negative - say 0-19, equivocal - maybe 20-30; postiive >30. This is just a hypothetical. Often doctors will look at the equivocals and dismiss them, or look at a 31 and call it negative because it is "just" over. The other question is whether he ran the full panel, or only one or two of the tests...
  5. Hello, Jonathon, and welcome. Two questions: Can you get a copy of your blood test results to see what was tested for and what the results were? Can you do the same for your endoscopy? Did he take any biopsies or did he just "look"? You will seldom find celiac by just looking unless the damage is severe -- it needs to be looked at under...
  6. But had anyone else put a knife in that cheese that maybe had gluten crumbs on it? Or did you open the fresh package?
  7. OP refers to the original poster who started the thread.
  8. Welcome, ksue. The DGP (deamidated gliadin protein) is the newest test for gluten sensitivity and is considered to be the most specific for celiac disease. You do not have to test positive on all the tests - that is why they run the entire panel. Your DGP was a definite positive. Your negative biopsy could be due to your doctor not taking enough...
  9. Yep, they took out the gluten and replaced it with soy, corn and inulin. Nice going!!
  10. Psoriasis takes many different forms. Pustular, guttate, etc., etc. I suppose it is theoretcally possible to have both psoriasis and DH, although usually one seems to have one or the other. Have you looked at pictures of all the different forms of psoriasis and of DH? Generally, looking at these pictures, you can find something that matches what yours...
  11. Just touching the croutons will not cause a gluten reaction, but eating food that croutons have touched most probably will because they leave behind trace crumbs of gluten which most celiacs react to. Some are less sensitive and can get away with just removing the croutons, but most are not. So long as you wash your hands after possibly touching gluten...
  12. Welcome to the forum, and I hope we can help. How, and by whom, were you unofficially diagnosed? Was it by a dermatologist or a dermatopathologist? Did they do a biopsy of the skin adjacent to a lesion on your skin? I certainly hope so. Unless the biopsies are taken in the right place and treated with the right staining they will not diagnose dermatitis...
  13. Slight correction: doctors should tell you not to go gluten free before testing is completed.
  14. Manufacturers (and food processors) seem to find a reason to put gluten into thousands of things that we would never anticipate finding them in. Hydrolyzed wheat protein is a big one in personal care products.
  15. I have no idea if any topical products containing gluten would harm me, but it is just one less thing to worry about At this stage of my life, that's one of my basic premises
  16. Jeffrey Smith from Institute for Responsible Technology will be on Dr. Oz tomorrow, Wed. 17th, discussing GMO's in our foods.
  17. You can print out the page at this weblink: Open Original Shared Link This is where Dr. Alessio Fasano, the "God" of celiac, discusses non-celiac gluten sensitivity.
  18. Peppa_minto, I am sorry your thread seemed to be rather bypassed by posters. I just wanted to tell you that when you are first new to gluten free often the gluten has had an effect on your pancreas which is not putting out enough enzymes to properly digest your food, which is why you sometimes get undigested food in your stool. Buy a good quality gluten...
  19. Heck, moi, would have been nakedly staring at you.
  20. Maybe you are confusing allergy and celiac which is an autoimmune response. I am not familiar with the saliva allergy? test. But it is possible if the doctor tested you for wheat AND gluten that it was in fact a celiac test. It is possible to test negative for celiac disease and still have problems with gluten - it is called non-celiac gluten intolerance...
  21. When you have celiac your autoimmune system is in overdrive and reacting to lots of things that it won't react to later. You just have to be patient, eliminate (for now) anything that upsets you, and look to add it back in later when you have healed. Some of these you may no longer be able to tolerate - it is just a wait and see game. I assume you had...
  22. Don't feel bad - I almost made the same mistake
  23. Ouch! That total drop in cholesterol was all HDL Something funny is going on there, but I have no idea what. My cholesterol has remained the same -- always a little too high, but that's because my HDL is really high.
  24. But I believe that is for a maintenance/continuous dosage, not just once a day. I have forgotten to take diazepam and still slept (well, except for the night when I took it in low light light and it turned out to be lasix, not diazepam -- same size and color) The john and I were well acquainted that night.
  25. Mrs. Vydor is left brain??? perhaps??
