  1. The fact that the doctor could see damage without resort to the microscope is a pretty good indicator of a positive biopsy. The damage is most often seen only on biopsy. I think you will get your diagnosis.
  2. It is if it is organic as well, which applies to most of the "grass-fed" beef I have seen in markets. Producers who go this route tend to be into organics, perhaps?
  3. Not to mention the hormones and antibiotics
  4. Jess is spot-on. Because of the higher cost producers are only too keen to label it as organic, grass-fed. If it doesn't say it, I'd bet my bloomers it isn't.
  5. There are no medical tests for food intolerances that I am aware of. If you can limit your diet initially to things you know are safe foods for you (plain, whole foods, not processed), and then add additional foods one at a time while keeping a food and symptom diary, you should be able to identify the suspects. Of course you drop everything you react...
  6. Just some random thoughts Untreated anemia will make you feel tired. If you are still consuming lactose, that can cause rumbling stomach and the need to rush to the toilet (if you do have celiac, you have probably temporarily lost the ability to digest lactose) Your husband needs to brush his teeth and clean his mouth before kissing you. ...
  7. Like GottaSki, I am clearly a lectin intolerant. For me, it's nightshades, legumes, citrus (lemon, lime), corn, soy. I do fine with dairy and eggs. I intend to soon trial some members of those families that I have eliminated totally, i.e, those which I do not recall reactions from before, like lentils, eggplant, to see what happens. If that goes well...
  8. Please don't send them to me! I have problems with quinoa, amaranth and millet, all supposedly high quality protein gluten substitute grains. Sometimes we just have to accept our differences.
  9. Carrying the gene only predisposes you to developing celiac; it does not mean that you will have it. It is widely accepted that there needs to be a trigger for celiac disease to develop, either physical or mental stress; childbirth can be a trigger. There is no way of knowing what your son's trigger was. But he must have received the gene(s) from either...
  10. Hi guys. I almost forgot that was my first post for a while. Good to be back - I have been reading along for a few days. Look for an email soon and I'll fill ya all in
  11. Jeepers, Bun Bun, what a terrible thing to have happen. I am so sorry for what you have been going through. Thank you for sharing with us. {{{hugs}}}
  12. this kind of stuff?? There are a few Auckland Organic butcheries etc etc, but will these butchers still have meets containing this stuff?? What a brand of free range eggs??? I found you through all the forums I was reading from all around the world, and you definately sound like you know your stuff!!! Love to hear from you. Chris

  13. Hey there. I am new to the Celiac community and I have just come across a thread you have posted in, regarding gluten or corn, biotics or meat contaminations etc etc that can be found in beef or chicken that can be fed grains etc etc. Are you able to email me at notforsale2011@hotmail.com and have a chat with me, regarding a good place or how to ask for chicken or meat that should be free from all

  14. No, you should not feel 100% better three weeks off gluten or lactose. You would be an extremely lucky soul if you did. Many of us take years to completely heal, if we ever do. If you are continuing to feel better as time passes, then you are on the right path and should be encouraged and delighted The path to recovery can be an up-and-down one, better...
  15. I like the red currant/rwine idea in lieu of the ubiquitos tomato My only problem is hubs always scarfs all the red currant jellly before I can get to it. Have to find a new hiding place.
  16. Camping out in the woods, singing songs around the campfire, starting forest fires..... Be careful. Scott, with your marshmallows and birthday festivities
  17. The longer the period of gluten free eating, the less chance of a positive endoscopic biopsy. That is to say, that gluten-loading just before the endoscopy is not enough to do the trick. The lack of a positive biopsy does not indicate that you do not have celiac; it just means that a) you have done sufficient healing since stopping gluten for it to not...
  18. It used to happen to me quite often, after both corn and gluten, maybe 20 times in all. I don't do it any more. When you've passed out it is always hard to tell how long it has been. I came to once just as my head hit the floor - I was sitting on the floor saying "I've got to lie down before I pass out" and then I was (passed out) with a thud before I...
  19. So far as I know, apart from brown and white rice flour/starch (terms are interchangeable), the only other rice flour is what is variously referred to as sweet rice flour or 'glutinous' rice flour, which is not interchangeable for the other two (has different properties). You will usually find this flour in asian markets. The rice flours in asian markets...
  20. Just beware with potato Potato flour and potato starch are NOT the same thing - the flour is much heavier than the starch.
  21. Oh yes!! The stuff I was told was spaghetti as a child, that muck that comes out of the can - used to get served on toast for breakfast in the morning The joy upon arrival in London where there was a trattoria just around the corner from where I was living and the pure joy of discovering pasta and tomato sauces not like your momma used to serve
  22. According to today's diagnostic classifications, quite so. But the major definition of celiac disease is gastrointestinal damage, and we are now finding all the other places where it wreaks its havoc, so who is to say right now that these are not also manifestations of celiac disease as well as "sensitivity". It is an evolving area and the criteria may...
  23. Like Imam Bayiildi - "the priest fainted" at the deliciousness of the eggplant dish I used to enjoy making that in my tomato-eating days.
  24. I, too, have had the sweating, ringing in the ears and fainting as a gluten response But never accompanied by such severe cramping. That is what alarmed me. And the fact she thought she was passed out for several minutes. My vasovagal syncope was always just a momentary thing, just long enough for me to hit the deck
  25. I agree with Cara. The diagnosis at this point would serve little purpose except to wave in the face of the ignorant doctor. You would have to eat gluten for 2-3 months to make the testing valid and cause yourself additional distress and damage in the process. Just assume you have it (even if it is non-celiac gluten intolerance the treatment is the same...
