  1. That sounds like a good plan - make sure you get a good one at a center that does a lot of ablations. I am scheduled for ablation this coming Thursday.
  2. Lactose intolerance is not "developed" after going gluten free - it becomes recognized once the gluten mask is taken away. We are lactose intolerant because the villi in our small intestine have been destroyed, and it is at the tips of these villi that the enzyme lactase which digests the milk sugar is produced. It is not until the gut heals that these...
  3. Just as well the conversation was reopened
  4. It's a much better picture if they're knee highs
  5. Nope, that can't be me -- 'cos I NEVAH wear knee-highs!!
  6. I've often wondered about the Altoids too Okay, so yesterday I realized there were some bits and bobs that I needed to go out and buy, and I had been sclepping around the house all day in an odd assortment of attire, so figured I had better go get actually dressed! But then I said, wait a minute, I'm going to Wally World, I would really stand out if...
  7. Uhmmm, "false positives are common"???? I would think the DNA testing would be more useful for false negatives depending how far the testing goes.
  8. If you are going through gluten withdrawal it is an indication that your body has become dependent on its gluten fix. We are often addicted to the things that are bad for us, like smoking and heroin Someone who is not addicted to nicotine does not go through withdrawal if they stop smoking; i.e., some people can smoke and not become addicted. Some people...
  9. I use scotch on an empty stomach. Shocks the stomach into behavin;
  10. Welcome to the board. You have not been having symptoms for very long, and therefore may not have built up a lot of antibodies or done much damage to your small intestine to test positive. Add to that that you had been gluten free for three of the nine weeks prior to testing (and especially considering that two-week continuous period), and you could...
  11. I think that from 211 to 42 is a massive drop!! Healing does not occur according to a doctor's preconceived time schedule. So long as you are keeping the gluten out the numbers will continue to go down, I am sure. Stay with the program!!
  12. Wise girl!! Life is a bit like a game of bridge; and it is always nice to have a trump left in your hand Keeping your options open for as long as possible will usually allow you to make the best decision available.
  13. Thanks for that. I have been after the same thing. I haven't tried tapioca.
  14. I have atrial fibrillation which started with my food intolelrances, and is now an entity on its own whether I eat the foods or not, AND is getting more frequent and bothersome. I am going in next week to have a PVI (pulmonary vein isolation) ablation procedure since, like you, my heart is structurally sound and it's just the electrical wiring that is messed...
  15. I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. What is your doctor recommending for you?
  16. In people with the neurologic symptoms from gluten there is some crossover between celiac symptoms and MS. I wouldn't be concerned at this stage.
  17. A thirty-five page chapter, "How to keep gluten out of the bed"???
  18. The immunofluorescent biopsy is the one which will find autoimmune antibodies which would be present in DH. The other does not have much relevance to your condition. I would say your dermatologist is admitting lack of DH knowledge and turning you over to someone who might know something about it, which is a good thing
  19. I feel that people who stop eating gluten should also quit lactose at first to test whether their intestinal villi have been damaged. All it takes is a week off, have some ice cream and see what happens. Also, yes, your symptoms are entirely consistent with withdrawal, both time of onset and feeling bad. Also normal is the up and down, feeling good, feeling...
  20. I am so sorry you are having problems with so many foods. It does sound like your blood test might have been a false negative - about 20-30% are - and that you have developed a leaky gut which lets larger than usual food particles through into the blood stream, where they are not recognized as 'self' and are treated as foreign invaders by the antibodies...
  21. I have a friend whose spouse thinks diarrhea is "normal", who has peripheral neuropathy, who has had a couple of seizures, who has GERD, who is low on B12, who is skinny as a rail and who thinks I am really weird because I don't eat gluten.
  22. Welcome to the board, and congratulations on returning your daughter to good health! There is no 'should' answer to this question, except you should do whatever makes you and your daughter comfortable. I would consider it preferable to have her seen by someone who has familiarity with celiac disease and gluten intolerance, which is apparently not her...
  23. I start out with the positive attitude that if it is made on the same lines, they have thoroughly cleaned the lines; and that if it is made in the same facility as, they make every effort to avoid cross-contamination; For those of you who do not know you have been glutened this system would not work, and I don't know how to advise (although if you are having...
  24. Can we work up a letter for supermarkets something like this: Dear Woolies / Coles / NewWorld / Countdown (NZ too) and whoever else: It is hard enough to be a gluten free shopper. It is even harder when there is no agreed gluten free color coding. It is so much harder when you put the gluten free products in amongst the organic foods (as if they were...
  25. What is it with stores that mix all the gluten-free up with all the gluteny things. Do they really think you are going to spend the whole day searching through the store in the (usually) vain hope or on the offchance that they might have something hidden away in there that is gluten free? And that I might possibly consider buying..... I would never go looking...
