  1. I suppose if it comes as a shock, you are shocked and at a loss for words. If it comes as a relief that there is a reason for all these symptoms no one believed in, it is not so much a shock as a relief -- that there really is a reason that you feel this way and react the way you do. And a reason to not keep on doing that any more For me, it was just...
  2. Sorry Oscar, you just don't seem to get the picture
  3. Yeah, I love the crew - think they are all pretty great actually. I think it's because the SENIORS get the good flights and they know their onions (and their gluten free crumbly rolls). However..... I did once get a wholemeal cracker with my cheese but then we always check these things, right??
  4. I so agree, pricklypear. It is so beyond me why some feel a diagnosis makes them superior to those without -- kinda like a merit badge
  5. Well, at least we all can call ourselves trendsetters - instead of followers like Gwyneth Paltrow and Miley Cyrus
  6. About 10 yards from my kitchen window lies a would-be grassy knoll, with a couple of large decorative rocks and some shrubby shrubs capped by a pine tree intended to disguise the next condo building. Between me and the knoll lies a paved walkway along which a gent in red baseball cap and blue shorts over which protrudes a prodigious paunch parades every...
  7. According to the book, "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" by Elaine Gottschall, "The flattened or blunted intestinal surface has been reported in innumerable disease states: infectious heptitis, ulcerative colitis, parasitic infections of the intestine including various types of worms and one-celled parasites, kwashiorkor, soy protein intolerance, intolerance...
  8. Hi Gord, and welcome to the board. Sounds like up till now you have never been tested for celiac and never actually eaten gluten free (correct me if I'm wrong). Before you get any further into the gluten free diet it is not too late to be tested for celiac disease (if you go any longer than a week gluten free you run the risk of a negative result when...
  9. I was sick nearly every day with a cold or flu before I quit eating gluten. Four years gluten free - one flu, that's it. And it was a cougher, something I'd never had before. My colds, followed by secondary infections, used to last 3-4 weeks.
  10. That's fine if they call it something other than gluten free and it is not endorsed by any celiac organization.
  11. I heard that a lot more people were wanting to acquire Parkinson's, too. Lot of dumb people around.
  12. This is a really old post you are responding to, Bob J, but hopefully someone will pick up and respond to it. Welcome to the board by the way. If you eat out a lot and are not extremely careful it is so easy to get cross-contamination. And enough cc can keep the damage going in the gut and prevent full recovery. And for some of us leaky gut is very...
  13. From trying to put all your information together, it seems obvious to me you have celiac disease, you are well when you do not eat gluten, you are sick when you do, it gives you anxiety and panic attacks, you have gastric problems, you have tingling and palpitations, and yet you still listen to this doctor who tells you you do not have celiac. Quit...
  14. Welcome to the board, melbatoast. I really think you already have your answer, but are not yet willing to acknowledge it. In the first place not everyone who is intolerant to gluten has celiac disease. The non-celiac gluten intolerants appear to outnumber the celiacs by about six to one. In the second place, not everyone who has celiac disease tests...
  15. You also need to be taking Vitamin D3 supplements. at least 1,000 iu/day.
  16. I am definitely with you on this one, Scott. The whole thing disgusts me.
  17. Okay, let's see what's in your soup and see if that provides any clues?? Any new supplements or meds or toiletries? New partner? Anything different?
  18. Okay, slow down and take a deep breath. Welcome to the board, and let's hope you get a real diagnosis soon. IBS should be wiped from the medical lexicon because it is only used when they don't know what else you might have or when they are too lazy to find out. It is not uncommon for celiac patients to be diagnosed with IBS for years (or all their lives...
  19. It was a wise decision to go there. I can think of few places where you could get a work-up like that. Hope it all works out for you.

ARCHIVED Need Help With Hla-Dq Testing

Sorry, I am not a genetic expert -- but others here will help you with that. The scalloping is a sign of celiac - I believe you will get a positive biopsy report. Some of your kids may well have a celiac gene if you do; if so, it doesn't mean that they will automatically develop the disease - it just shows that they have the propensity to do so. There...
  21. I was not suggesting a further six months - I meant it has now been six months.....
  22. It looks like your only option is to inform your third boss and try and get another sympathetic ear for the future. In the meantime, eat beforehand, order something to drink, and take some snacks in your purse to nibble on and make the best of it. They are not going to check what's in your bag as you enter and you should be able to eat something from it...
  23. You are still healing right now. Your body probably realized it was not yet ready to produce a new life. Give it a chance to fully heal and give yourself a chance to produce a healthy baby. Both important goals. After 6 months you just might be ready. Take all the right vitamin supplements and be patient - it will happen
  24. Were your nutrient levels tested right after your diagnosis. Because celiac is a disease of malabsorption, \ most of us are deficient in essential nutrients at time of diagnosis and this can delay healing if not addressed. B12 and D are two very common deficiencies. I think a full nutritional panel is a very good idea if it has not been done before - ferritin...
