  1. I think you should contact your doctor right away. It is possible that you have developed an intestinal blockage which needs to be attended to promptly. Not wishing to be unnecessarily alarmist, but it could be a serious problem.
  2. And I will be happy to provide you with crimini, portabella, even truffles (virtually of course ) in your quest for delectable gluten free, non-flesh foods
  3. Do it NOW, Nen - you've fudged around long enough And when you're nutrient testing don't forget Vitamin D.
  4. Two things: After giving up gluten it is perfectly normal to have a worse response to it if you eat it again, even cc. Consider it your body telling you in no uncertain terms not to do that again And, you could now be experiencing a delayed reaction to the withdrawal from gluten, the same kind of withdrawal that smokers and drug addicts go through...
  5. You could start with just the corn that contains the outer skin of the kernel - i.e., removing the corn protein rather than the starch. So anything like chips, tortillas, on the cob, anything that contains masa harina, etc., would be the obvious first place to start. For some this is enough; others have to remove the starch too, and by removing the other...
  6. Oats give many celiacs problems, even the certified gluten free oats. The oat protein seems to be a bit too closely related to the gliadin protein. The gluten avoidance trio is often modified to tack on oats as well.
  7. If we did that, we would also have to put similar notes about soy, nightshades and several other different foods to which many of us are also intolerant. As a celiac, you need to be aware that you may be intolerant to other foods or food groups than gluten -- you just have to learn by trial and error which your particular foods are. If you removed from...
  8. Was the biopsy result from the pathologist or just from your doctor and what he saw? There's a big difference!!
  9. Are you glowing, perspiring, or just plain sweating???
  10. There is no one set of rules for how a celiac should eat because what is right for one is wrong for another. You have to do an awful lot of trial and error (and make quite a few food donations) along the way until you figure out what agrees with your particular body. The simpler you keep it to start with, the easier it is. Don't bother with exotic sauces...
  11. No, it's North Dakota that has that rule - South can have whatever it wants to. Besides, the rules have all changed
  12. His current attitude may have something to do with his age. I don't know if he was in school on the previous challenge, but it could well be that he is just wanting what all the other kids have and doesn't want to have to give them up and be different. He is old enough to reason with, to explain that it will only get worse and make him sicker but it would...
  13. Just to echo Cara, stopping gluten eating and then restarting does not make you sensitive to gluten, it just reveals the sensititivity that was there all along but unnoticed. Your body is just reacting violently to its reintroduction after the relief of being free of it
  14. May I make a somewhat wry observation here? Most of us have had to spend our medical lives avoiding the IBS/IBD doctors who wouldn't know celiac disease if they tripped over it. Maybe your "expert" yesterday learned something new, that celiac patients can present with constipation as well as diarrhea (or maybe he didn't ) My personal feeling is that your...

    ARCHIVED Help With Analysis Results

It is normal to do this kind of check after six months and a year. People heal at different rates and a three-month check doesn't really mean a lot. Many of us have barely begun to heal at that point.
  16. Whole Paycheck usually have it,
  17. Bartfull is right, recovery is not a straight line. There will be peaks and valleys, mistakes, contamination from unknown sources, and it takes a while to learn where all the sneaky gluten lurks. What on the surface may appear to be gluten free may on further investigation actually have gluten. You have to read all labels of processed foods - I even found...
  18. Thank you for sharing your story, Tia. Some of us really do have to suffer to get any kind of help. I will not rant on about lack of knowledge of celiac because I have done that so often in the past, but rest assured we know how you have suffered. But, you don't have to do that any more Stay off the gluten and dairy (you will probably tolerate that...
  19. Oh, what a chore, to HAVE to use up fresh sheep's cheese
  20. Also, people who take the biologic TNF-inhibitors such as Humira and Enbrel should not be given any live vaccine, which I understand shingles vaccine is. The TNF inhibitors suppress the immune system.
  21. I would choose a chelated form of magnesium like magnesium glycinate and start with 100 or 150 mg. a day. Do not increase the dose for a week, then add another 100. Any time an increase in dose gives you diarrhea back off on the dosage, this is what they mean by bowel tolerance. You can find out a lot of useful information on potassium and magnesium...
  22. I take a prescription slow-release potassium, and have been told to be sure to balance that out with magnesium supplementation also to maintain the electrolyte balance in the body, which is particularly important for proper heart function, along with sodium.. Magnesium can normally be taken "to bowel tolerance" which means that if you start getting diarrhea...
  23. I already had a lot of GI symptoms when I was stricken with a mycoplasma infection, seriously ill for three weeks with it, so I can't say it was the cause of my problems but it sure did make them worse. There was no differentiation given to me as to the kind of mycoplasma so that's not very helpful I know. I am also a big believer in the differences...
  24. If you know you will be exposed to "social eating", eat before you go so you are not hungry, carry food and snacks in your bag/car at all times, and try to enjoy the social part rather than the eating part. I know, easier said than done, but with practice entirely doable. And you can always eat when you get home too. I know it's not the same, but...
  25. I have to admit to a moment or two of pleasure at the sight of ears of corn withering on the stalk but then considering that there could well be fields of sorghum nearby
