  1. I'm just curious what kind of job MADE you ingest gluten? Most places i've worked, you can just bring your own food.
  2. This too will pass . . . .just not fast enough!!
  3. No, I guess I should try that - i dont like the phone that much, I much prefer electronic communication - the kids can interupt me, i can do it when its convenient, its there when i'm ready for it. Plus, I'm waiting for the test results to come back, cuz I wasnt sure if they'd be open to me w/out any dx. So i'll try calling after I'm more sure . . .
  4. During your journey from sickness towards health, before during, after or without dx, have you ever been: 1) called a hypochondriac by close family/friends/loved ones? By all of them? 2) been offerred antidepressants for symptoms you were or are now certain were due to your gluten consumption or other REAL chronic physical condition? My husband...
  5. I've been trying to get ahold of them but havent been able to. The website lists meeting time and place, but not DAY, and I emailed asking if the group was still alive and if they had lists of good doctors, and got no response. I'm in the far-west-end . ..
  6. I noticed that Chopotles (my fave!) has gluten-free options - i believe if you steer clear of any wheat tortillas, you're safe. Also many places you can get safe salads - as long as they dont put any croutons or fried noodles or anything on them. Many restaurants now have gluten-free options, or allergy info on their websites, etc. You can try calling...
  7. Ok, I'm so glad you folks put this post here, cuz just now, 3 days after being glutened at a party, I finally had the 'on the way out' symptoms lol! I thought the headache was all I'd gotten, so I'm glad to realize (thanks to this post) that this 3-day later intestinal response is still from that same glutening. Also, about the A l CAT test being altered...
  8. In the regular supermarket breakfast bar section, nature valley has started making a bar thats just nuts and sugar. Theres a peanut variety and an almond variety. They were my breakfast treat, until i showed problems w peanuts and almonds . . . grr
  9. Well, I could digest milk, but that was the only positive thing for me! I was sick as a dog during my first trimester of my first pregnancy. I was actually living on a commune, and there was a midwife they always used. I was immediatly put on prenatal vitamins, and started having awful stomach response. They then told me to eat oatmeal with psyllium...
  10. Another first for this list, I'm Jewish - which is kinda a 'breed' if not a nationality. I'm also blonde and very fair, which is unusual for jews. My mom's mom's family was from austria, my mom's dad and my dad's mom from russia, and my dad's dad from rumania. My father had the awful stomach symptoms i have, and died of cancer, and my mom's mom had tons...
  11. Yeah, i'm starting to get afraid of that - the neighbors ask how i'm doing, and i am thinking about if my stomach hurts or my head hurts, what i ate, what i can eat. So far, i have an easy answer in food situations, i just say i'm off wheat and milk because they made me sick as an infant and i thought i might feel better, and i do. They kinda leave it at...
  12. I had withdrawal, but it was nothing like that. I was quitting gluten and casien at the same time. The second day I was pale w/ sunken eyes, and then i was dizzy, spacy for over a week. I definitely had more energy - til i got glutenned 2 days ago, that is .. . hubby isnt glad to see me back lol but everyone is different .. .
  13. I wasnt tempted to cheat until I saw a test that said i have to also avoid rice, pork, most fish, almonds, peanuts, walnuts, coffee, hot peppers, onions, eggs ... . now i feel like giving up. But when it was just gluten and dairy, that was pretty easy. I bought gluten and dairy free choc chips and made AWESOME choc chip cookies, i swear they were better...
  14. From what i've read around here, the standard response is - try the diet anyways. You dont need a doctor's orders to quit gluten! Go off for 6 weeks, then try going back on and see how you feel. Many of us here did it without testing, and were amazed at how much better we felt. You really dont have much to lose, except a few weeks of eating bread and...
  15. I was vegetarian for years, and considered going vegan but couldnt imagine giving up cheese! However, this time, when i was still eating meat, giving up all wheat and all dairy at the same time ended up not being so hard after all. I just made sure to eat a lot of other foods I really love as treats instead of cheese, like almond butter and dairy-free chocolate...
  16. Thats an interesting question . . i know people here have talked about a genetic test that shows which of 2 celiac genes you carry, and i guess if you have an intolerance and carry one of those genes, you could be likely to develop celiac. I havent seen any numbers for how many people who are negative for celiac but positive for food trials have the gene...
  17. Just wondering if you're trying some probiotics/acidopholous. Having that much D can so mess with your system, I know when I'm feeling that way, I'd take acidopholous every day and probaby be drinking gatoraide too, for electrlytes - tho i'm sure someone will have something bad to say about gatoraide! I've also seen a few posts where people imply that,...
  18. First of all, I've posted twice here in the past few days and had no responses, so I"m starting to think this forum isnt really a good place to post questions - the only active posts seem to be the lyme disease posts. Second of all, I seem to have TONS of food issues, and not really any DX yet. I did a mail-order sensitivity test from a company who, if...
  19. I know when my kids are different ages, the same virus can give them different kinds of intestinal symptoms, so it could certainly just be a virus - and of course, if its going around, it could have come in your house from anywhere. But i'm wondering why you dont want to go through testing w a 2 year old, i dont know much about it - i guess the first part...
  20. Ok, so funny . . . its a test that, apparently, offended folks on this site long ago with advertising, so if you spell out their name, it gets translated in to 'lame advertising'. I thought i'd put it clearly enuf w the dots, i'll have to fix that . . . its A L . . and then CAT . . . but all put together. THey have a website, you can mail order a test...
  21. I just wanted to say that, after three kids, I was realizing that I could handle dairy when I was pregnant (not that I was totally off it or anything, i was assuming i was lactose intolerant). I actually wondered if my kids were producing the enzyme that digests the lactose FOR me, since lactose intolerance usually doesnt show up before the age of 7. I...
  22. I know it might be different in canada, but I worked for a travel insurance company and first of all, we would cover pre-existing conditions if you bought the insurance within 2 weeks of buying the trip (rather than waiting until the week before the trip, when you already knew u were too sick to travel). And even if you didnt have the pre-ex waiver, you...
  23. Saturday I went to a party for lunch. I had called to ask if there would be food I could eat and told no (I only had time for a quick salad tho), but when I got there, the cook had kept a portion of the turkey chowder for me before adding the milk. It was delicious and I ate it. I also had a glass of white wine. I was feeling detached and spacey by the...
  24. Just wanted to say, I had a pediatrician recomend I put my son on some lactibacillus (gave me a specific brand to ask for at the pharmacy counter), when he was under 2 and having the runs from constant antibiotics for ear infections. I didnt like the brand he gave me, you can find better ones for kids which will dissolve in juice or milk or yoghurt or applesauce...
  25. I use quaker (I know, notorious for cc) instant grits in the microwave. If you add in some milk-type liquid and cook 4-5 min, they come out kinda creamy! Cara
