  1. yes...I think ya'll have it. DQ2.2(the subtype 2) and one of the DQ7 genes form the COMPLETE celiac gene DQ2.5 DQ2.2 has the beta part 0202 and DQ7 has the alpha part 0505. These two together act the same as the DQ2.5 gene that has alpha 0501 and Beta0201. Also it makes no difference if the complete gene is on one chromosome or on two. It works...
  2. Maybe the GI doctor can see him sooner. If he is too sick to go to school then it is getting bad. Keep calling them and insisting that your son is ill and needs to be seen soon. I would think the dr. would do an endoscope if your son is sick anyways so he could do biopsies then. Hold your ground and do not let them convince you he does not need one. ...
  3. That's right....the coconut ice cream is soooooo delicious. I have just had vanilla and coconut, but they make other flavors too. so yummy.
  4. Thanks for the replies. Mike, I do not like the idea of every vinegar you have tested having gluten in it. The homeopath in my town has been gluten free for 30 years or so and says all vinegars can be cced.
  5. Wondering how many can tolerate grain vinegar. I know some can not tolerate any vinegar, but I am wondering about people who do eat vinegar. I have avoided it, then had some in a spread that was labeled gluten free. I was sick to my stomach a few days later and my belly hurt for a week. It could have been from something else and I have not tried it again...
  6. Hi, I hope you get better soon. I am worried about you. My mom had EBV years ago. She took high dosages of antiviral medication. She swears by Lysine for canker sores too. The fever worries me, it makes it seem like more than a vitamin deficiency. Take care
  7. Did you have the celiac blood panel done already? If you did it should have tested your total IGA antibody level. some people make no IGA antibodies at all, but some people are weak producers of it. If you did get that done you could post your total IGA level and the range given by the lab. IF you are deficient or low then Enterolab's test won't show that...
  8. my daughter tested negative at Enterolab. She had a result of 9 with 10 and up being positive. However, she is responding well on a gluten free diet. They told me with a result of 9 and her lower total IGA levels she coul be having a reaction so she is on a trial diet. That is the real indicator especially if your child has been very ill like yours....
  9. hi, did you have the blood work done? It doesn't sound like it. One thing they test for when doing the blood work is your total IGA antibody levels. It they are deficient they run the tests with IGG antibodies. Enterolab tests for IGA only. If you are deficient you do not make the IGA antibodies. But some people are low and do not have as high of levels...
  10. hi, this is basically a repeat of what Nora was just saying. The two main celiac genes are DQ2.5 and DQ8. DQ2.5 can be the whole gene DQ2 subtype 1 OR it can be made up of two genes. DQ2.2(that is subtype 2) AND SOME of the DQ7 genes. SO your daughter may have the full DQ2.5 gene. The thing is Enterolab does not explain that. Which is really irratating...
  11. hey, yes I drink Pacific Hazelnut milk. It has carragennan. Does that upset your belly? Purely Decadent is a soy ice cream...so sorry. In ice cream desperation maybe someone could make their own almond milk and then use an ice cream maker..... we have only made frozen yogurt with our ice cream maker and it was so yummy. But then I gave up...
  12. I had read earlier that the apple cider FLAVORED vinegar could contain gluten. Does anyone know when this changed? I have pickles I canned here that I haven't eaten in fear of gluten.
  13. I can't answer your question. But some celiacs are IgA deficient. They are celiac but have an IgG reaction. I have had bad reactions to things and I think it can be adrenilin and hormone related. It can be so scary. Jesus does not want you to suffer.....You could bring a gluten free cracker next time.
  14. Diffferent labs have different reference ranges. You need to find out the range from the lab you used. Also remember , the blood tests are no always accurate.
  15. collete- would love for you to come cook for me! You mention some of my favorite foods. my splurges: endangered species dark chocolate- the one with blueberries and the one with cranberries and almonds. Hazelnut milk- oh lord, this is so good. Almond milk is okay, this is like desert in a cup. yummy. I had never had any before going gluten-free...
  16. I have had this for years. I get it on my hands. Mine is directly correlated to wheat. I have seen several medical practioners and had to figure it out on my own. Mine was so bad at one point that I could only use my thumb and forefinger on one hand. It had gotten infected. horrible!!! When I still ate other gluten but not wheat I did not get it unless...
  17. hey sweetie, glad you are feeling better....hope it just keeps moving in that direction. take care.... meb

    ARCHIVED Pf Changs

I finally got to go to a pf changs in July. There is not one anywhere near me, but I was on vacation. I ate at the one in san jose, CA. It was fabulous. My waiter was gluten free knowledgeable and very helpful. I had the lettuce wraps for appetizers. They made it vegetarian for us as a special request. (my hubby is a strict vegetartian). They were...
  19. some people with celiac are asymptomatic. If they can have it so can you. You have a few symptoms. Anxiety was a big symptom for me. It is so much better now. In fact I had an issue the other night(I was worried about going to the dentist to get a filling) and I chuckled thinking how even though I was up in the middle of the night worrying I was at least...
  20. just google kimball gene testing. Even without the full gene I have had such a positive recovery that I will not go back to eating gluten. There are documented cases of people with celiac with only DQ2.2 or the DQ7 half gene and not with both. It is a very small number, but it has happened. I will never know for sure and that is okay. good luck
  21. Enterolab has it's own way of gene testing. There are 2 parts to the gene, the alpha part and the beta part. Enterolab only tests for the beta part. In cases like yours I wish they tested that too. so the whole celiac genes are DQ2(really DQ2.5) and DQ8. HOWEVER, two other genes if both present in a person can come together and make the celiac...
  22. Hey, I have a set of boy girl twins too!! I don't know how old your kids are, so this may not work for them. My DD is on a trial gluten free diet now. It is trial because the one blood test run was negative(the dr did not make sure that all three blood tests were being run even though I said I wanted them to be:( ) I did enterolab test with her that...
  23. A celiac blood test is useless if he has been off gluten that long. They did not even allergy test my DD for rye or oats...that could be useful info.
  24. does he have symptoms. some people NEVER test positive on bloodtests.
  25. I love hazelnut milk, so unbeliveably yummy
