  1. Fuel prices have always been high here compared with the States. We are now paying
  2. You might, like me, actually be very intolerant of all carbohydrates. I went gluten-free/Dairy Free in January and immediately the most severe pain I had in my stomach, and the diarrhea stopped but I was still getting issues with quite a few other foods. The only things that didn't affect me were basic foods, plain unprocessed meats, fish and poultry...
  3. When I first went gluten-free/DF 2 months ago I pretty much cut straight to the chase and eliminated most carbs and sugar as well, as I was still reacting to different things - eggs, soya, even baking powder (the sulphate in the cream of tartar I think as I seem to be ok with baking soda). Two weeks ago I went even further with the Specific Carbohydrate...
  4. Hi Kim. I'm really not sure what the scab is. Some years ago I went to the doctor and he gave me some cream for it. I used it for a few days and it started to clear up but I stupidly stopped using it and it came back. I didn't realise that the cream was an anti-biotic and I should have kept going with it till it was completely gone. A friend told me...
  5. Hi Kim. Sorry I can't post today in any detail. We have had to travel for a Funeral and the lady I am staying with has just let me use her computer to check my emails etc. I should be back Tuesday. I'll be in touch then - I haven't abandoned the site!!!!
  6. I 'hear' what you say Rachel and do believe that to a certain extent you are right. However, we have to ask ourselves why the candida has got out of hand in the first place. Why is the immune system compromised? Ok, so those who are gluten intolerant/Celiac need to stop the gluten. So why, after they have done that do they not all get well? Apparently...
  7. I posted on your other thread (I think you must have clicked on New Topic instead of Reply). I am not a doctor, but is seems fairly obvious to me that if the anti-biotics aren't working, despite the doctors assurance that it is bacterial, then it can't be the bacteria that is causing the infection, or if it is it is not responding! Anti-biotics, rather...
  8. Thanks for telling me about the poop problem! I did wonder why it seemed to be going backwards - at least I will have some confidence that it will get back to some kind of normality. It's probably like this whilst my body is re-jigging itself and off-loading toxins, etc. I had never seen or heard of a Neti Pot. That's interesting. Amongst all the other...

    ARCHIVED Candida?

As long as you eat enough protein and fats and the veg and fruits you won't lose weight. The body balances itself out as long as it has enough food. If weight was dependent on carbohydrate and starches, all Eskimos who only eat mainly fish and meat, would be like Belsen Camp inmates! Of course you might lose a lb or two initially as you change your diet...
  10. I keep posting this everywhere to try and get the point across. Over a century ago it was discovered that Celiacs are Carbohydrate intolerant - not just gluten although that was the 'diagnosis' the Medical hierarchy decided to run with. Whilst removing gluten certainly helps and some cope ok with just gluten removed, there are an awful lot of people out...
  11. Doh! Just because I told you I don't have to stick my feet out any more - last night I had to! They were really hot. I think I ate something my stomach didn't cope with very well. I used to get very itchy feet too and I realised that was to do with my digestion. Don't tell me about bad breath! My mouth usually tastes like the bottom of a sewage...

    ARCHIVED Candida?

Sorry to have to say this but the only sure fire way to control Candida/bacterial overgrowth is to stop giving it the foods it needs to survive, namely carbs and sugar. It is evil insidious stuff if allowed to get out of hand and we have that ultimate control. If you don't get a handle on it it will only get worse. I know it is difficult, but the outcome...
  13. Hi Kim. I sounds from your symptoms as if the carbs and dairy were really poisoning your system and your poor old body was really toxic. The fact that those things have improved so much would suggest that. My body has never been very efficient at off-loading the toxins. apparently when you get spots and smelly sweat it actually shows that your body...
  14. Hi Kim. I think you're right about starving out the bacteria. I too think that is a lot of my problem, almost certainly triggered by anti-biotics but compounded by carbs and sugar. I used to get a lot of colds as a child (looks like my immune system was compromised by carb intolerance even back then!) although I wasn't fat. The weight gain (trivialised...
  15. I will admit that there are a few things in the book that are a little questionable, but I think we have to look at the bigger picture. Many. many people have had excellent success with this diet. No, I think you are right that 'cured' may be a bit ambitious, however, many have certainly gone into permanent remission on it. I think that it has to be...
  16. Carrots, yummmmm. You'll know you've had enough when you look in the mirror and see an Ooompa-loompa staring back at you! They'll be good for your night-vision lenses - just don't end up with a Vitamin A overdose! Actually I am having carrots everyday as I cope with them fine. I only did the chicken and carrots thing for a couple of days as I didn...
  17. Trouble is Deb, that although you don't think you react to dairy, it could still be the reason why your stomach is not recovering. I would say the only way to try is to drop dairy for a month or so completely and see what happens. Ice Cream also contains quite a lot of sugar and other ingredients and any one of them could be a trigger. Nikki who has...
  18. Sorry Deb, I got confused. For some unfathomable reason I thought you meant the SCD! Doh! I had to start gluten-free at the end of Jan after my digestion collapsed. I was in such pain when I ate and ended up in hospital twice, but they could find nothing wrong. By a process of elimination and some intense web research, I whittled it down to food...
  19. I lost about a stone and a half when I was on Byetta for 3 months for my diabetes (the doc should never have put me on it), which was the only saving grace about it as I am sure it was that that triggered my intolerance off big-time. I have lost around another half a stone since I swapped back to insulin at the beginning of October, just through odd happenings...
  20. My sleep has improved a lot - it's so good to wake up in more or less the same place I went to sleep in! LOL!! The restless legs have all but vanished now my digestion is beginning to settle. Even though I still get the stomach discomfort and backache and probably will do for a while, it is a lot better than it was. I am also very tired a lot of...
  21. Shame you have had a reaction to the yoghurt. I find breakfast the most difficult meal - what do you tend to have a that time? When I was just doing plain low-carb, it wasn't a problem, but now I can't tolerate many foods I get a bit frustrated. Eggs are usually a big part of breakfast but they are not agreeing with me. I am usually aware of my heart...
  22. Hi Rob. Goats' milk is now obtainable at most superstores, Tesco's, Sainsbury's, you name it. I would tend to use the whole milk rather than skimmed as I prefer the creamier taste but of course that is a matter of taste. You should also be able to buy goats' yoghurt for a starter - St Helen's Farm brand is sold in Tescos and Asda and probably in others...
  23. I just found this quote on Pecanbread. I know it is aimed at kids but the principles can just as likely fit adults too. Initial Reactions Some children exhibit increased hyperactivity or aggression when they start the probiotics. Other children get digestive symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation, and light-brown-yeasty looking stools. You just have...
  24. I have a slightly worrying problem in that the diarrhea that I had successfully got rid of when I went gluten-free/DF seems to have come back. Over the last 2 days my stools have changed back to the typical Celiac type, today culminating in the diarrhea - not sure if it is something I ate or a side-effect of the SCD. I was on gluten-free/DF for just over...
  25. Hi Deb, yes that's the book. I am slowly getting into the swing. It would be easier for me if I could eat eggs, but at the moment I am having yogurt and fruit, or fish, or even soup for breakfast. I would have an interchange of one of those or salad with chicken or turkey for lunch and a cooked meal for dinner with just meat, fish, or fowl and plenty...
