ARCHIVED What Did I Do Wrong?
AliB replied to Gluten=bad's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi. I have gone gluten-free, dairy free and low carb, low sugar. My gut is reacting to all sorts of things since it collapsed and carbs and sugar in general seem to be the biggest culprit. I am veering now from just gluten-free/DF to mainly very low carb as the 2 times I have done low carb in the past were good for me (stupid me for not keeping it... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Returning?!?!
AliB replied to nikky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi MJ I went gluten-free/DF at the end of Jan. Whilst my initial main problems cleared up and I have had some more energy, I am still getting other symptoms. I have come to realise that although gluten and dairy is certainly an issue, my main problem is that I seem to actually be carbohydrate intolerant. I know I have had a problem processing carbs... -
This is the second time this has happened. I have spent quite a while creating a post. I thought about something to add, clicked the cursor where I wanted it, started typing and suddenly realised that everything I had already typed had gone! When I clicked the cursor, somehow it must have selected the whole lot and deleted it as I started typing - I...

ARCHIVED Weird Symptom: Tingly Legs?
AliB replied to buffettbride's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A also would add my voice to the low nutrient level 'camp'. If your DD is not getting a balanced quota of nutrients then things like tingly legs/'growing pains' will manifest (contrary to popular opinion, 'growing pains' are not normal - they are indicative of a deficiency). Certainly B complex in a multivit if you can find a decent one that is not full... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have A Crystal Ball?
AliB replied to frustratedfamily's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Many who are gluten insensitive can also be intolerant of other forms of carbohydrate including sugar, soy, corn, plus other things like dairy, eggs and yeast for instance. You may find that a better way would be to put your baby onto a plain basic diet for a week or so to clear out any lingering delayed responses then start to introduce other foods one... -
ARCHIVED Just Looking For Answers
AliB replied to amromkey's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hiya. At least 80% of the population is carbohydrate intolerant, whether they know it or not. Gluten is certainly one of the largest culprits, the other being sugar, with intolerances to other foods like corn, soy, dairy etc., following up the rear! Your poor baby is obviously not a very happy bunny with her digestion. Intolerance can take all kinds... -
ARCHIVED Poll: How Many Have Celiac And Sleep Apnea?
AliB replied to Janine's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't have SA but my son who is 27, 6'4" and only weighs less than 200lbs does seem to suffer with it. He has noticed that he is better when he eats less sugar and carbs, and is also less sluggish and has less brain fog. My symptoms are certainly better when I eat less carbs and sugar. I know that carbs have been a problem for me for years, and am... -
ARCHIVED Blood Work Negative: Bioposy Questionable: Gene Positive, Am I Nuts?
AliB replied to AllieB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Pregnancy and fertility problems can certainly be a very strong indicator especially linked with all your other symptoms. Although it was not suspected until 4 weeks before she died, my Mum was almost certainly Celiac. She was diabetic, anemic all her life and had me followed by a stillborn, then 10 miscarriages. Blood tests often come back negative... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Markers Are Good But Still Feeling Blah!
AliB replied to good4something's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What I have learnt since my last post is that apparently, whilst 20% of the population can tolerate carbohydrate, 80% can't. Gluten intolerance may actually stem from an inability to process carbohydrates per se. Whilst gluten based carbohydrates may be the major antagonist, it is likely that all carbs will have a detrimental effect sooner or later. ... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Get Worn Out Or Sleepy Alot ?
AliB replied to thumper's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do you know what I have discovered today? I don't think I am dairy intolerant after all. I have found a source which states that apparently whilst around 20% of the population can cope with carbs, the other 80% can't. I have been aware for some time that I don't cope with carbs very well and would often get reactions from dairy, especially coughs,... -
ARCHIVED Dna Testing - Dq2 & Dq8
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hmm. Well, you may be able to have the four standard tests over there in the States, but all that seems to be done here in the UK, well certainly in my case was IgA and tTG. My test was negative - I never got as far as a biopsy as I needed to stop the gluten immediately. Many have testified to the fact that although their blood testing came back as negative... -
ARCHIVED Dna Testing - Dq2 & Dq8
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes it is in its infancy and not enough is known about it unfortunately. I read something incredibly interesting last night. There is a school of thought that whilst approximately 20% of the population can tolerate carbohydrate, 80% can't. It kind of makes a lot of sense. I have always recognised that I do not cope with carbohydrates in any form,... -
ARCHIVED Dna Testing - Dq2 & Dq8
AliB posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Now then, this may be a bit controversial. Those of you who have got to know me over the past few weeks will know that I have a very analytical mind. I have an overwhelming need to know 'why'. I have been giving this 'testing' problem a good deal of thought and investigation and have drawn a few conclusions. Apparently 92-98% of those diagnosed... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Get Worn Out Or Sleepy Alot ?
AliB replied to thumper's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been gluten and dairy free (plus low carb and sugar) for 3 weeks. I have been extra tired too, but then I have not been sleeping properly for so long it is not surprising if my body needs to do some catching up. I can now go to bed and instead of thrashing about all night, I go to sleep and stay in the same place all night! Wonderful. Whilst... -
ARCHIVED Recurring Stomach Bug
AliB replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That was an interesting thought about bugs from the equipment - there was a survey done fairly recently that reckoned gyms and 'health' centers are the most bug-laden environments possible! Yuk. The thought really puts me off! I would suggest, if you can find a practitioner who can do it, and you can afford it to see if you can have a nutrient profile... -
ARCHIVED Recurring Stomach Bug
AliB replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are several things that could be behind this. Have you considered the possibility that this may be to do with a deficiency. It could be that in using the tremendous amount of energy you needed to do the workout, your body has used up any reserves it had and has gone into a state of collapse. Only a theory, but worth looking at. Apparently, there... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Markers Are Good But Still Feeling Blah!
AliB replied to good4something's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It could be that you have either developed an intolerance to another food or that an existing underlying tolerance has become manifest. Have you tried avoiding dairy for a while to see if that makes any difference? It could also be due to a Candida infestation. Whilst the initial response of your body is relief and a detox of the gluten, it seems that... -
ARCHIVED Help! I Am Very New To This Disease And Feel Overwhelmed!
AliB replied to twinflame2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Of course you need supplements - your body can't cope on its own. The reason you are having these problems is due to malabsorption issues caused by the gluten and almost definitely a very acute Candida overgrowth - you are suffering so much deficiency your body and immune system is unable to function properly. If your body was able to get what it needed... -

ARCHIVED Symptoms Returning?!?!
AliB replied to nikky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sounds like you definitely have nutrient deficiencies. The problem with dropping gluten is that you are no longer getting the nutrients that this group of foods supplied - even though it was causing damage, there were still some benefits so the most important thing, when you drop gluten and any other group like dairy is to take extra support in the form... -
Tell your Mum, if it makes her feel any better that EVERYONE is to a greater or lesser degree intolerant of gluten - they just don't know it! Gluten, along with dairy (and sugar), particularly cow's and particularly 'mucked about' with pasteurised and homogenised, damages the gut and stops it being able to absorb nutrients properly. Any malabsorption...

Unfortunately you only have 2 choices. Eat gluten and be sick or not eat gluten and be well. What you have to realise is that if you are Celiac, not eating gluten is the only option. There is no other cure. If you carry on eating gluten your body will become less and less able to function and you will get sicker and sicker. The vomiting may indicate...

ARCHIVED New To Gluten Free... Feeling Spacey
AliB replied to Abbott50's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It can take a while for the body to adjust, after all, if you have been loading this stuff into your body for years, it isn't going to change overnight. I have been off gluten, dairy, most carbs and sugars for nearly 3 weeks and am still getting detox/withdrawal symptoms. I had a permanent headache for well over a week until 2 days ago, yesterday I... -
"Lifetime commitment". What twaddle. Isn't EATING a lifetime commitment? Isn't SLEEPING a lifetime commitment? Isn't using the toilet a lifetime commitment? They eat different food in India. They eat different food in Japan. They eat different food in Tonga. They eat different food in Siberia. So what? We eat different food too. We live on the...
