  1. Hiya, thanks for that. I am feeling a bit better this morning. Had to eat twice in the night to bring my BS back up, but eventually settled enough by around 6am to sleep for a while. The 'liver' pain in my foot has almost gone and is certainly a lot less regular than it was, coming about once every 5 minutes instead of every 30 seconds, and my side...
  2. I have just realised the shivering was due to my blood sugar being down to 3.6 (65). I normally get shaky if I get low but not normally cold and shivery but that may be because my liver isn't working properly. I have had a hot drink and a biscuit and the shivering has gone. Still doesn't explain the liver problem though!
  3. I have been gluten-free for nearly 3 weeks. Today I have experienced unpleasant liver inflammation. My right side is very tender and I keep feeling strange sensations/fluttering. It is uncomfortable to lay down and I keep getting a regular pain under the arch of my left foot (which corresponds with the liver on the reflexology chart) although it doesn...
  4. Any kind of deficiency is common in anyone with gluten intolerance - even when they don't know they have it a deficiency would undoubtedly point to GI. Gluten (and dairy, particularly cow's, and refined sugar) damages the gut lining and stops the body absorbing nutrients. It may only be one or two that are not being absorbed efficiently but it is enough...
  5. Sorry Nikki, I forgot to answer your other question - yes I do feel a lot better. I started on Monday 28th Jan as I couldn't cope with the pain and relentless diarrhoea any more. Within 6 hours the terrible pain in my stomach had gone and the diarrhoea had stopped. Within 5 days I was beginning to gain more energy. Within a week the bloating had...
  6. I was eating gluten and dairy until I had the blood taken then started immediately after. I noticed that sometimes if the IgA reading are low it can be because the antibody levels are low for some reason so then a test has to be done to measure those. Having read the info, it seems that the Enterolab stool tests may be far more accurate. As it said,...
  7. My blood test came back negative. Over here in the UK its like getting blood out of a stone. I even rang the Lab to ask if they could interpret for me as my doctor said he didn't know enough about it, but they said they couldn't help as it is illegal! Can you believe that? Anyway, I did manage at least to get the doc's receptionist to give me what...
  8. I think the above posting has been tagged on to this thread by mistake. Very valid and useful to know I am sure, but not quite in context just now. Interesting about soy though as I am sure I have a problem with that.
  9. If you have only been on the diet for a week then the antibodies should still be present in your system. I would suggest you get your blood taken asap for testing for Celiac. You are supposed to be still eating gluten for a biopsy, but to be quite honest that is pretty invasive and can still present a negative result even if you were actually Celiac. ...
  10. Hiya. I am 50 and have suffered with the low energy, constant fatigue thing most of my life, and irregular periods, so I know exactly where you are coming from. The cold and numb hands and tingly feet - funnily enough I got that just a week or so after starting the gluten-free diet, also couldn't get warm. I did a bit of research and wondered if it might...

    ARCHIVED Gluten Digest?

I think because of the mess 'science' has made of our food and the problems we are experiencing because of it, I would be pretty skeptical about taking yet another chemical 'concoction' to combat the damage! Just like 'science' seems to be unaware of the damage to our guts, how would we know this wasn't actually giving us yet something else to be quietly...
  12. I know what you mean about dairy, I love it too. I so miss my cups of hot choc, and cream! But i am slowly getting used to not having it. I have found some nice choccy oat milk (I might investigate making it as it would be a darn sight cheaper!), although I do get a slight reaction when I drink it - I don't know if its the oats or the choc or the sugar...
  13. 'The usual stuff'. That kind of sums it up really. We are so conditioned to eat the 'usual' stuff that the thought of eating 'unusual' stuff makes us feel strange or weird! But what if you went to live in India, or Japan? You would probably be eating different stuff to the 'usual', but we are so cosmopolitan these days that no-one bats an eyelid if...
  14. Ummm. I just assumed this product was only available in the US as I hadn't seen it in the UK. I had looked at the website for it but although it lists the product there doesn't seem to be any description about the ingredients other than basic information. However, I just clicked on 'contact us' and would you believe it, there is a UK contact address...
  15. Hi. I live in the UK and found a nice recipe for double choc muffins on the web using Barkat Bread Mix. I haven't a clue what it is or what is in it. Can anyone tell me the ingredients so that I can experiment with flours and try to substitute (unless you have a good recipe replacement!).
  16. Lupus is yet another illness that will have gluten as its trigger, like Celiac. We are all gluten intolerant to a greater or lesser degree. You don't have to have Celiac Disease to be very Gluten Intolerant. It is behind virtually every disease imaginable. Gluten, dairy and sugar are our 3 worst enemies. Gluten because it has been meddled with and...
  17. We have to be very careful here not to adopt a 'them and us' attitude. Those with Celiac disease do not have the monopoly on gluten intolerance! The thing is, EVERY human on this earth who eats gluten, is gluten intolerant to a greater or lesser degree. It has been modified into a protein molecule that is very difficult for our bodies to digest. Some...
  18. Hi Rachelle. Please be assured that any negative result for Celiac either in blood tests or biopsy does not indicate that you have NO gluten intolerance. EVERYONE is intolerant of gluten to a greater or lesser degree. Very extreme cases of gluten intolerance can appear on a biopsy to be indicative of Celiac, and even be diagnosed as Celiac although...
  19. Hi Jenny. Please don't fall into the trap of assuming that just because your tests are negative, you are not Gluten intolerant. Everyone is gluten intolerant. It has been genetically modified into a very complex protein that we cannot process properly. It damages the gut and stops us being able to absorb essential vitamins and minerals. The best...
  20. Oh Emily, it's like banging your head against a brick wall, isn't it! Nobody takes Gluten Intolerance seriously unless it is bad enough that it presents as Celiac! My take on it is this. Celiac disease is a genetic vulnerability. If you have the genetic markers, then you will develop Celiac at some point. However, some people are diagnosed with Celiac...
  21. Hi Susie. I'm repeating myself so much I'm getting to be a bit boring now! EVERYONE is gluten intolerant. Gluten has been genetically manipulated into a very complex protein that our stomachs are not capable of dealing with. Anyone who eats gluten will eventually show a reaction and the longer gluten is consumed, the more damage is done to our gut...
  22. Yes, what you both say is true, ans maybe I was a little heavy-handed in my interpretation, but essentially it is true that the damage is caused by the gluten intolerance. I am not sure that an 'auto-immune' disease isn't really the Medical professions' way of explaining a disease for which they have no real explanation. The disease could just as easily...
  23. I can't say this often enough - I want to shout it from the rooftops! Gluten Intolerance is the precursor to virtually all illnesses and disease. It is quietly beavering away doing its dirty work for years before the symptoms become apparent. Celiac Disease is just one of the high end results of the damage caused by Gluten Intolerance. Yes, some may...
  24. Nobody seems to realise the damage that is caused by Gluten Intolerance. Celiac Disease is just one end result of being Gluten Intolerant. It starts long before the gut is so severely damaged that Celiac finally shows up. Even low-level gluten intolerance will over a period of time interfere with and damage the way the gut works and stop it absorbing...
  25. Hi Mr Mark If your wife has a questioning mind, one thing you might try is to explain to her that EVERYONE is gluten intolerant whether they know it or not. Whilst in ancient times Wheat consisted of a simple protein molecule of 14 chromosomes which was easily digested, over the last few centuries, due to hybridisation techniques science has meddled...
