  1. I have just assessed myself as a Protein type. I have known for years that I need plenty of protein and can't cope with carbs but didn't know why. I anyone else eating according to their type and are you finding it works for you?
  2. This does make you more inventive, doesn't it! As a 'Protein' type, I am very restricted with carbs. I can have a little in the way of grains - millet, amaranth, buckwheat, brown rice, etc, but my veggies are restricted to cauli, asparagus, beans, peas, carrots, celery, mushrooms and spinach, and a few potatoes as long as they are fried in butter! Fruits...
  3. Hi Katifer. I can understand how you feel but at the end of the day, if he has intolerances, he has intolerances. They will not go away by being ignored, they only get worse! We only view having to remove them as annoying because they are such an integral part of our 'Western' diet. If no one else ate them, removing them from the diet would not be...
  4. That's interesting - I was hungry when I went to bed last night so I had some pate on a rice cracker. I had some the night before without any problem, but last night I opened a new pot of the same Organic gluten-free Pork Pate. Within 20 minutes my stomach started going off like Vesuvius! I could hear it grumbling and groaning its way through my digestion...
  5. With this Metabolic Typing Diet that I have started, what is interesting is that as a Protein 'type', my body does not cope with either carbs in general or sugar. As these foods are recognised to feed Candida it may be that all who are suffering with Candida are also, like me, those who have been eating the wrong foods according to their genetic make-up...
  6. I beg to differ - I believe that certain types of Autism can be triggered by gluten and/or dairy sensitivity. So little is known about what gluten does to the body. Some children will develop what are considered to be 'obvious' symptoms - growth retardation for instance. But that will depend on a) the genetic weakness of the individual and b.) what form...
  7. I fully understand Rachel, what you are saying about heavy metals and to a certain extent I agree with you, however, I do believe that a healthy body has the ability to deal with most, if not all of the toxins that are thrown at it. Unfortunately, in general, we are not healthy. Everything is polluted - the water we drink, the air we breathe, the food...
  8. Not sure - I would give it 2 weeks or so to really be able to tell any difference. I have received the Metabolic Typing Diet book today and have been devouring it. It is very interesting and after going through the questionnaire I am totally convinced that I am a Protein (fast oxidiser) type. I need to have a lot of protein (purines, which is organ and...
  9. You are absolutely right - genetics plays a huge part in our individual strengths and weaknesses, but it is not the only factor controlling our ability to deal with toxicity. If we keep loading our bodies with foods that our genetic make-up is not designed to deal with, we are constantly downloading yet more toxic material. You are right that heavy metals...
  10. Hi Ken - I didn't check out anything - I have just used my noddle and more than a little common sense! I am sure there is plenty of information out there to substantiate my 'theory'
  11. The book I ordered on the Metabolic Typing diet turned up this morning and it is fascinating and makes so much sense. Our bodies all work differently. If we all eat basically the same diet it stands to reason that whilst it may work for some, it won't work for others, which is why no one diet fits all. Whilst a particular diet may be good for one person...
  12. Never noticed a reply not come up. i have had an odd one not display, but when I have refreshed the screen it has popped up. You are doing very well. I wish I had as much will-power! I was doing really well when I first went gluten-free, and was quite happy just to have an occasional cookie, but now I am finding if I have one, I end up eating three...
  13. I beg to differ too! Whilst I do not for one minute either believe in or advocate the evolution theory or the length of time the human species has been alive, I do agree that we are not able to cope with many grains. I am sure though, that this has far more to do with what mankind has done to it than to the grain itself, after all, even Jesus shared...
  14. How would we know if they were skewed or not?
  15. I too felt better for a few days around 2 weeks after dropping the gluten and dairy but I too went down with a virus which knocked me flat and have not been able to pick back up. I have have Candida problems for years. It is part of the gut flora and should be there as it is part of the digestive process. It only becomes a problem when something within...
  16. My bowels went pretty much full circle for the first few weeks and are still not totally settled after nearly three months, but it is better. Like you, I have had issues with different foods and it is a process of elimination which is not always easy to pinpoint. Because of the gut damage and also, I think, damage within the liver and pancreas, we are...
  17. If you have Candida, the last thing you want to be doing is overloading your poor beleaguered liver with yet more toxic crap, regardless of how it makes you feel! Most drugs are toxic to the body - hence the side-effects. There is one way of using the Paxil thing positively - if you could figure out what the 'active' ingredient is, and what plant it...
  18. Sweet potatoes, marshmallows and margarine! Yuk. On their own, great (well, pass on the margarine) but what a combination. Your mother sure had a strange taste! They are lovely baked whole in the oven then split and mashed with butter. Probably would make quite a nice cake, too! Make a change from Carrot cake! Your problem may not actually be dairy...
  19. I'm kind of getting used to life after dairy. I don't drink tea or coffee but I do miss my hot choc - probably the comfort more than anything especially as it is so cold here for a great part of the year. When the weather's hot I'm not bothered about hot drinks. I tried making hot choc with dairy free choc mix and coconut milk but my stomach has been getting...
  20. I suppose that it is quite possible. Some people are so sensitive that they react to grain-fed beef and chicken, so I would say yes to that if you are a very gluten-sensitive individual. I have had goats' milk in the past and although it has been better than cows' it would still give me a reaction. I was drinking just goats milk before I went dairy-free...
  21. I never thought of that! The parmesan is pre-grated so that may be possible. My stomach has really not been at all happy again this week and I am getting the dreadful backache back, so something is going on. I just assumed that my stomach couldn't cope with it because it is dairy - the possibility of gluten never occurred to me. thanks for that! I...
  22. MMMmm that sounds delicious - I'll have a go at that one. Your dinner sounded good too. I wish i could eat cheese - my options would be a bit better. I made some savoury crackers the other day with almond meal and the recipe said to include grated parmesan. They tasted lovely but my stomach didn't like the parmesan at all. I have made them without it...
  23. Yup, anyone else out there wanting to join the SCD clan? I actually think that gluten sensitivity came about a lot later than that, after all, even Jesus ate bread with his disciples around 2000 years ago and I am sure he would not have encouraged them to eat it if it was harmful to them. Apparently up to about 300 years ago Wheat protein was based...
  24. I was trying to figure out Robin if you are already gluten-free. If so, it may affect your Celiac test. These things are not terribly reliable and do often come back negative even when it is the problem but that is even more likely if you have already started gluten-free. If your doc then decides you need a biopsy too you would need to be consuming gluten...
  25. Oh Sandra, if you're reading these replies, we can all understand your frustration. Any illness is pants and we all want a magic pill, but you know life ain't like that. I am not only gluten and dairy intolerant but also actually carbohydrate intolerant which also limits my diet somewhat, and on top of that am also, like many others, Diabetic and have...
