ARCHIVED Antibody Testing - Can I Have Some Feedback
AliB posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Many of you will be aware that I already think the testing procedure is a load of ..... Anyway. My doctor only requested 2 tests when I went back in January, and I knew no better than to go along with it at the time. My tTg was 1 (range 0 - 10) and my IgA was 1.54 (range .85 - 4.68). It came back as 'Negative'. In my innocence, I assumed that anything... -
I am soooo glad for you that you have managed to get this sorted out whilst you are still young. In a way, the fact that you had such extreme reactions to gluten has been a great indicator enabling you to come to a fairly quick solution. I say quick, though it always seems like forever when you are going through it all! For some of us it has sadly been...

Dairy gives me the constant hurrrumph, makes me feel horrible, causes constipation and I am sure it has contributed to the dry eyes which do seem a bit better since I dropped both dairy and gluten. I still get some catarrgh even without them both but I hope that will improve as my body finally gets rid of a lot of the crud it has been carting around for...

ARCHIVED Can't Seem To Take The Weight Off..help!
AliB replied to SamAlexPesk's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Try low-carbing. Stick to good plain unprocessed meat, fish, poultry, fruit and veg. Try dropping dairy for a while to see if that helps. I am a fast-oxidiser metabolic 'protein' type. I need plenty of protein and don't cope with carbs very well at all (hence the diabetes!). Some lose weight fairly quickly after adopting the gluten-free diet, others... -
ARCHIVED I Think I Might Have Celiac Disease...
AliB replied to azuroo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's what happened to me - within several hours of dropping gluten and dairy the excruciating pain in my stomach every time I ate went away along with the diarrhea. It took a good week for the residual discomfort and bloating to subside and several weeks for my bowels to settle down to a 'proper' function. I too had a short burst of energy, but that abated... -
ARCHIVED Could I Be Celiac?
AliB replied to mhb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree. When it happens gradually over a period of time you are not always aware of the difference. It's when you suddenly wake up one morning and your joints are stiff, or you start to feel unusually tired, etc., that it begins to bite. Many have found after adopting a gluten-free diet that their PCOS (amongst many other things) has cleared up. It... -
ARCHIVED Gluten/wheat Related Intolerances
AliB replied to blondebombshell's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Umm......Wheat contains gluten. If you eat wheat, you are eating gluten. If you eat wheat, barley, rye or oats you are eating gluten! If you eat anything that is derived from wheat, barley, rye or oats, you are eating gluten. If you want to test the gluten-free diet properly you have to remove ALL traces of gluten from your diet. I had IBS for years... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Hypoglycemia Diet?
AliB replied to mattj's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The average is an HbA1c. The Paleo diet is basically the basic diet without too much in the way of carbs, just those from veg, fruit, beans, etc. The 'Western' diet is way too stuffed full of carbs and it is killing everyone. People generally stuff carbs from the minute they get up to the minute they go to bed. It's not until you actually stop and... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Hypoglycemia Diet?
AliB replied to mattj's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been diabetic for 11 years and on insulin for 5. For years before I became diabetic I suffered with Hypos on a regular basis. I think I have figured out why. It is quite likely that most, if not all of those with hypoglycemia and diabetes have a Leaky Gut due to gluten damage. Because the gut is permeable, instead of the digested sugars being... -
ARCHIVED Your Most Important Question Regarding Celiac Disease
AliB replied to CDGuy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"It is widely recognised that he so called 'Gold-Standard' current biopsy testing procedure misses and dismisses thousands of 'Silent' Celiacs who do not display any obvious gut damage, and the current antibody testing procedure seems to presume that because part of the 'healthy' population has antibodies, any displaying them below a certain level do not... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hiya. Hey, look around you - the World is managing a pretty good job of collapsing on its own! If they carry on growing and feeding the world wheat and gluten grains, at this rate there won't be anyone left to worry about the economy! When you look at antibody testing for virtually any other disease, the presence of even the smallest amount of... -
ARCHIVED In Denial Of My Celiac Diagnosis
AliB replied to munkee41182's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The sad thing is that a gluten-free diet adopted early enough might have even helped your fiance avoid the kidney problems! I would just reiterate what everyone else has. What we do to our bodies has a very sinister way of quietly catching up with us when we least expect it. I didn't see the diabetes coming but it got hold of me and there ain't nothing... -
I have been gluten-free for nearly 4 months too and yes it is hard, but it does get easier. I thought I had the thing nailed down then recently my immune system started to kick back in and I started getting 'proper' gluten reactions. Before, I thought they were just reactions to other foods or because my gut still hadn't healed, but when I reacted properly...

It depends very much on your metabolism. I am a fast-oxidiser 'protein' type. I have always needed plenty of protein and cannot cope with carbs very well (hence the diabetes!), so the less carbs I eat, the better for me. I am one person that Atkins was made for! I never went mad on the protein but would eat a little extra. I substituted potatoes with...

ARCHIVED How Long Before I Heal
AliB replied to Froger850's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hopefully, going gluten-free will help you not to have to have your gall-bladder out at all. It is a necessary part of your body and not having it will make life more difficult. With gluten out of your life your body will have a chance to sort itself out. I took some milk thistle capsules for a few weeks to support my liver and when I had an ultrasound... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Still Having Symptoms
AliB replied to KCampbell's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Over the last 2 weeks I have been 'glutened' twice. This time I was able to recognise it for what it was - before, I just had odd reactions that I assumed were to other foods or because my gut was still not healed and finding some foods hard to cope with. After the latest 'proper' reactions though I suspect that it may be that my immune system is finally... -
Y'know, I went to Tesco's today. It's a huge Tesco 'Extra'. There are miles (it seems) of aisles crammed full of gluten foods. The gluten-free section was about 6ft wide. I reckon that was less than 1% of the whole shelf space in the store. What was on it is pretty much crap, and exorbitantly expensive. They sold Orgran bread mix to make an 800gm...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Still Having Symptoms
AliB replied to KCampbell's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have noticed this a lot that some either get better for a while then go backwards or they don't really improve much at all on gluten-free, which can indicate problems with other foods such as dairy. I recognised very quickly after going gluten-free and DF that my problem was not just gluten but carbs per se. My body just doesn't cope with them properly... -
ARCHIVED 21yr Old Female- Newly Self Diagnosed...
AliB replied to kiwi-girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Parasites could be a problem, however, I have been gluten-free for nearly 4 months and just last week I had a 'proper' gluten reaction, twice. The second time was from food that I thought was safe (with oats in) and have been eating all through so I obviously have been getting low-level gluten without realising the symptoms were from that (I just thought... -
ARCHIVED I'm A Weird Celiac - Gained Weight?
AliB replied to jparsick84's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Although I had other vague problems as a child that were undoubtedly due to Celiac, and was a 'dumpy' teenager after puberty, I really started to gain weight when I was around 20 and particularly when I was pregnant with my first baby nearly 30 years ago. Up to recently, for the last 20 years I have been lugging around the best part of 100lbs and still need... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
We can go on having an inquest about why we are sick, indefinitely. We are sick because this world is sick, and I for one am sick of it. Man just makes a mess of everything and although I am trying to improve my health I know even if I do I will still die at the end of it. There is only one solution to it all, coming very shortly and not only does... -
ARCHIVED Everyone With Fibromyalgia...
AliB replied to lizard00's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just throwing my 5 eggs into the pot.......... I believe that that Fibromyalgia, like CFS, like Migraines, like MS, like............is just yet another manifestation of food intolerances whether caused by heavy metals, industrial pollution, chemical contaminants, gluten et al. We are all different - the effects of gluten intolerance for instance can... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing

Apparently lead may have been contributory in the downfall of the Roman Empire - It is only a theory, but an interesting one nonetheless. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I really do feel for you. It has been bad enough for me at 50 but to be suffering like that when you are 17 is a 'rum do'. I can't cope with either gluten or dairy as well as a few other foods. When things were really bad I did get to the stage where I was frightened to eat at all so I can sympathise with that. If your gut is extremely damaged and... -
ARCHIVED How Long Before Reflux Stops?
AliB replied to Gez's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The awful stomach pain I had diminished within a few hours, but it took a good week for the bloating and residual discomfort to settle down. The healing process takes time and you are unlikely to see an instant result so hang on in there. You must make sure that you are completely 100% free of the stuff. Any exposure will just continue to keep the...
