ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well, kind of ok with honey but I tend to restrict it because of the bacterial infestation. although good for you, it is a pure source of glucose. You may find that eating honey triggers a bacterial reaction creating toxins that give you a problem. Might be as well to restrict it for a while and try having it in a few months when your digestion has settled... -
ARCHIVED Gut Imbalance And Dysbiosis Behind Everything.
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'm not 'telling' anyone what it is - merely what I believe it is........... Yes the bacteria is just as likely to be 'inherited' as anything else. Family members live in close proximity to each other. Mothers breast-feed babies. Babies are apparently born with a sterile gut. Within days their gut has started to be populated with flora. Where does... -
ARCHIVED Gut Imbalance And Dysbiosis Behind Everything.

To go back to your point on the other thread Pele, the research I have been doing has led me to be pretty confident that it is not the gluten that is the problem. After all, if gluten WAS the problem then EVERYBODY would have a problem with it. The problem lays not with the gluten but with those of us who are intolerant. If it is not gluten that causes... -
Well, it is and it isn't. The thread was about 'still having problems'. My 'theory' (and I fully believe that it is, and will prove to be, much more than just a theory!) is that many of us are still 'having problems' because of the bacteria. Hi Pele - I will go back to my 'Gut Imbalance And Dysbiosis Behind Everything' thread and answer your question...

ARCHIVED Undigested Rice, Is This Normal?
AliB replied to Greeneyes4950's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Your body is probably having a problem digesting carbohydrates. Try following the Specific Carbohydrate Diet for a while which eliminates grains and starches, to allow your gut time to heal. Because of the damage, the enterocytes cannot produce the enzymes needed for carbohydrate digestion which is why they are going straight through you. There is a... -
Yes, but what is 'auto-immune'? It is the Medical Profession saying "for some reason the body is attacking itself, but we don't know why"! Why can bacteria not be behind it? Some of the pathogenic by-products produced by the rogue bacteria are extremely toxic to the body. There are many different bacteria producing many different by-products, some of...

Mono-saccharides (vegetables, fruits, honey and live plain yogurt) convert straight to glucose within the body so can be used directly. Di-saccharides (sugar and lactose) and Poly-saccharides (grains and starches) have to be broken down by the digestive enzymes. That is all well and good, but the whole reason most people are on this site is because their...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I sometimes have a problem with apples - it's weird though - a few months ago after not eating much in the way of apples for years because of allergic reactions, I decided to go on an apple fast. Over a period of perhaps 4 or 5 days I ate pretty nothing much but apples and was absolutely fine until one morning I had an apple for breakfast as I had done for... -
I have never been able to tolerate alcohol apart from an occasional well-diluted Pimms and the very low or no alcohol cheap plonk. I never knew why. It would make me cough something awful and go straight to my bowels! It wasn't until recently when my stomach was really bad and I took some Slippery Elm and reacted to it that the penny dropped. I did...

The bloating is due to rogue bacteria feeding on incompletely digested carbohydrates. The gas is a by-product of the bacterial activity. They are not digested properly because there are not enough enzymes. There are not enough enzymes because the stomach acid is low - it may be enough to partially digest protein but not enough to trigger enough enzymes...
-
It's interesting that you are taking digestive enzymes Shay. I have been looking into the effects of low stomach acid and how it impacts on digestion and on the body and our health, in general. Apparently, if those for whom this is a problem supplement with Betaine then normal enzyme activity should resume, as the enzymes are triggered by stomach acid...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
PS. Adrenal Insufficiency, B12 deficiency and gluten intolerance can all be symptomatic of low stomach acid. Without enough acid enzyme production is not triggered properly. When people get acid reflux or GERD, doctors seem to be robotically programmed to assume it is due to too much stomach acid when the converse is actually true. Without enough... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Georgie. The Specific Carbohydrate Diet is basically about limiting your carbs to simple ones (mono-saccharides) found in fruits, most vegetables, good, well fermented home-made yogurt and perhaps a little honey if Candida is not a problem for you. Any other carbs such as those found in grains (wheat, of course, rye, barley, oats, quinoa, buckwheat... -
I keep seeing this. Some get better after the removal of gluten but there are many who don't. Often they just replace the high gluten-based carb diet with lots of high-carb non-gluten-based foods. The bacteria feeding on the stuff is not choosy. It doesn't care what the type of carb is as long as it is getting its fill. That is why the SCD works. ...

ARCHIVED No Grains, Nightshades, Legumes And Dairy, Sounds Familiar?
AliB replied to Aleksa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
If you read the Specific Carbohydrate Thread you will see that carbs and dairy are big problems for a lot of people, which is why the SCD works. These foods are feeding rogue parasites and/or bacteria amongst the approximately 2kgs of very imbalanced flora in our guts. Allergies or intolerances to other foods are due to the leaky gut caused by the bacteria... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

The book Gut and Psychology Syndrome by Natasha Campbell-McBride came a few days ago and it is incredibly interesting reading. I am working my way through it and will probably read it several times to really absorb the information. Her field is more neuro based - Autism, ADD, OCD, Schizophrenia, etc., but she shows how the bacteria gets out of hand and... -

Carrying on this topic, I reckon that is probably what 'withdrawal' is all about. There is an advert floating around on the TV here in the UK for Niquitin anti-smoking products. It shows the 'receptors' in the brain going mad when the nicotine stops. What if it isn't 'receptors' but bacteria? What if the same thing happens when we withdraw the bacterias... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My Dad used to say that his granddad, who was an avid gardener always maintained that caterpillars would only eat enough to give them the nutrients they need for metamorphosis. The lower the vegetables are in nutrition, the more they will eat. That kind of figures with us too. I often think of those enormous people who eat and eat and eat. I can't help... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Having got used to being gluten and dairy free I don't miss bread at all usually as my husband and I don't normally have anything gluten in the house, except today I did my grandsons who are visiting with us, some gluten toast and one of them left his - boy was I tempted to finish it for him!!! They also had some little rice krispie cakes at tea which were... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Brenda, your post has given me renewed hope to really get this going properly. It's so good to hear from those who are getting the benefit. Do you take anything apart from eating the right foods and having the yogurt, etc? I haven't been going overboard with the foods I can cope with but that are considered illegal, like rice cakes etc., but obviously... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi all. Glad this thread has picked up again. I fell off the wagon for a while - not drastically but enough to know that I was going backwards instead of forwards! Since I last posted I have been doing a lot of further research and have realised that gut dysbiosis is behind virtually everything. Exacerbated by things like anti-biotics and fuelled... -
ARCHIVED Gut Imbalance And Dysbiosis Behind Everything.
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hmm. That takes some thought. It seems that the bacterial imbalance may run in families. Presumably, the more different types of rogue bacteria there are in the gut, the more health problems you are likely to experience. The converse may also be true. It can take something to act as a trigger - perhaps a virus, or a medication, an accident, an operation... -
ARCHIVED Gut Imbalance And Dysbiosis Behind Everything.
AliB posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The more research I do the more I am realising that it is not gluten that is behind all these illnesses but gut dysbiosis. It starts right from birth, particularly when a baby is either not, or only temporarily breast-fed as their little guts do not develop the right balance of flora. Then it will be exacerbated by other factors - anti-biotics (I was... -
