It never ceases to amaze me what the 'experts' come up with. My Dad always used to say that the definition of an expert was 'a person who learns more and more about less and less until he knows everything about nothing at all'. Did you know for instance that 90% of people who suffer with chronic fatigue wear a watch? Therefore we have to assume that wearing...

Egg Allergy/intolerance After Effect Of Celiac?
AliB replied to a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Although I now seem to be able to tolerate eggs (I couldn't initially after going gluten-free), I don't eat them very often, so perhaps that has helped. I have a theory though. You know how stuff can cross the body into mothers' milk when breastfeeding - I am sure a similar thing happens to eggs. The longer we get away from gluten the more sensitive... -
Coo, that's flattering - mine said the four F's - Female, Fair, Fat and over Forty! Thanks Mate! Hasn't anyone stopped to wonder why it happens to women of that age and over? What a cop out. How do they explain it away if you are Male, Dark, Thin and Twenty-five? Actually I am only fair because I have gone grey and use a blonde color - otherwise I...

I am following the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, well, I am a Metabolic Protein type so its the SCD with more protein basically. When my digestion collapsed back in January eggs were a big no-no, but now after eating the plain food my stomach seems to be healing and I can now tolerate some eggs and products with egg in. One recipe I love from the SCD without...

Hi Deborah Even though you have been tested as 'Mixed', there are various levels of this. You can either be a mixed who tends towards carbs or a mixed who tends towards protein, or you fall right in the middle. Although you have a Mediterranean background other factors within your genetic make-up may have influenced your metabolism towards a different...

ARCHIVED Anyone Else A Metabolic 'protein' Type?

Patti, so pleased to see you benefitting from it. I am still struggling to get mine right - I think I got glutened yesterday - I feel like my body is inflamed and I have gas and bloating back which is really annoying. I probably shan't sleep much tonight! One of the things in the book is that a certain Dr Weston A Price, a dentist, spent 20 years in... -

If anyone is interested this link is to a book that has been put on the Internet. In it Robert McFerran addresses Arthritis mainly but does cover other problems and how they are linked to diet. He goes into great detail about why eating the wrong foods for our metabolic type is so destructive. He refers to a lot of documented material and evidence that... -
Hi Deborah. Unfortunately this is quite common. Often ones find that dropping gluten alone does not bring about the hoped-for recovery. There are often other foods that are also acting as antagonists. Whilst the gut remains damaged malabsorption of essential nutrients is a problem and it can also contribute to leaky gut syndrome which allows undigested...

So Rachel, is there any safe alternative to mercury? Have the alternatives been tested for any long-term contamination - after all, mercury was thought to be safe originally! -

Both times I lost weight and felt well was when I went low-carb and now I am kicking myself for not sticking to it. I also used to suffer with low blood sugar before I became diabetic and the low-carb diet helped that too. It has to be worth trying. If you lose weight and feel a lot better for it then it has to be presumed that it is what your body... -

Twice in my life I went low-carb and twice I lost weight and felt so much better. You think I would have twigged wouldn't you! Now my digestion/metabolism has ground to such a halt I only have to LOOK at carbohydrate and I gain weight. I just can't seem to shift it. I know I am still sneaking in a few bits of carbs and I obviously have reached the... -

But I didn't, Rachel, I didn't. My problems started when I was 14, before I ever was exposed to a lot of those things. Yes, I smoked in my later teens - for 5 minutes - it was just a very short-term social thing, yes I drank a bit. by the time i got into my 20's i had abandoned those things as not only did I not like smoking, but alcohol made me cough... -

"If copper were high then taking a multimineral would not be helpful. Any additional copper intake would only serve to keep the cycle going. Certain foods that are high in copper (chocolate, nuts, wholegrain, legumes, etc) would also not help the situation." (I really can't get the hang of this quote thing!!) Ok. But what about those communities that naturally... -

Sorry, I didn't say or mean to infer that that is all you talk about! I was aware that you were referring to deficiencies in this case, but you do mention the heavy metal thing quite a lot - well, on the posts that I read anyway! I do agree that deficiencies are a big problem but I still can't help feeling that a lot of the reason for it is because... -

You can't assume you are a protein type as it depends on what other mix is in your genes. Your background would certainly suggest that to be the case. Mine is pretty cut and dried - I need plenty of protein or I get headaches and I can't cope with carbs at all so when I did the questionnaire I was not at all surprised to find that I fitted the extreme... -

Yes, but, its eating anything we want that has got us into this trouble in the first place! I have dropped my BP med again as my BP has come back down. It went down after going gluten-free, but then it went back up again, but I was eating more carbs. I knew it was lower again as I kept getting dizzy every time I stood up! I take an ACE-inhibitor instead... -
I have just figured out that I am a fast-oxidiser 'Protein type' through the Metabolic Typing Diet questionnaire. I have always known that I need plenty of protein and can't cope with carbs, but at least now I know why. My genetic make-up dictates that I can't process carbs very well at all and should not be eating them. I can have some dried beans ...

Yup, I've had that for at least the last 5 years. It's there all the time but I notice it more at night when it's quiet. Sometimes its so bad my ears pop and it feels like my whole body is throbbing. I always thought it had something to do with carbs/sugar but didn't know what. I thought maybe it was if my blood sugar had gone too high, but although... -

See, I know I am thick - I just can't help myself. I cooked heart for dinner - may sound gross if you've never had them, but we like them. That was fine. I had beans and 2 small potatoes with butter. Ok so far. Then I topped it with a small bowl of yogurt, some blueberries and a few chocolate chips. Hmmm. Oh, and to finish off, several chunks of... -

I actually think that the years of eating 'against the grain' as you so succinctly put it, does really muck us up. The last time I had any energy was when I was about 14. I hit 15 and hit a brick wall and never really got it back. Weirdly, both times I was pregnant I felt better, although I put most of my weight on during my first pregnancy and never... -

Coo, wish I could lose weight that easily!!! The interesting thing about this diet is that if you get your metabolic food balance right, apparently your body weight will even out, so those who need to lose will lose, and those who need to gain will gain. Have you established which type you actually are? -

I am in the UK and can't get half the stuff you have access to in the States! You have a far greater choice than we do, boo hoo! I haven't noticed my thirst picking up at all. I've never been very good at drinking. I read somewhere that some people interpret thirst as hunger and tend to eat instead - I reckon that's me. I am trying to drink a lot... -

Trouble is that some of us actually need to be eating purines and you just can't get them from vegetables - they have to come from meat and fish. It seems that only those who are 'carbo' types are really cut out for vegetarianism. for the rest of us, getting enough protein is extremely important. The nature of vegetarianism is such that carbs feature... -

Funny thing - when I first stopped gluten, I cut out dairy, and most carbs and sugar and for a few days I felt great - loads of energy, but then I got smacked by a virus and went right back down again. I am gradually clawing back up but it is taking ages this time. I started eating a few more carbs - we had the grandkids for the school hols and I was... -

Oh Ursula, poor you. I thought being on the Metabolic Protein diet was restrictive enough but you really have your work cut out! I don't tolerate many carbs very well at all too, but I think I can manage a few more than you. I seem to be ok with vegetables although they are restricted anyway to lower carb types on this diet. I have never been able to...
