Yes, I believe that in some cases celiac disease-related damage might be present in the jejunum even if the duodenum appears normal during endoscopy. This could be due to variations in how the disease affects different parts of the small intestine, or it might be because the damage is not severe enough to be visible through the endoscope in the duodenum but...

Covering news that could affect our community is not "inappropriate" for Celiac.com, and quite the opposite, we've always covered stories that might have an impact on our community--especially when it is someone so prominent within our community--including ones about various lawsuits by people suing companies or restaurants, as well as other criminal cases...

Coeliac test results
Scott Adams replied to Laurenmw's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree, perhaps there are more blood tests that were done which were positive? -
Can you tolerate gluten-free oats? If so, you could certainly make them without sugar. There are other hot cereals like this one that has very low sugar: https://ancientharvest.com/hot-cereal/quinoa-flakes/ As far as breads without sugar you may need to make your own, but this small bakery is supposedly back in business, and they used apple juice as...

Gluten Free Cornish Pasties - Martins Bakery
Scott Adams replied to cristiana's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Their products look amazing! I wish they had a bakery like this near me! -
Yes, it's possible for a weak positive test result for celiac disease (Transglutaminase IgG) to be influenced by other factors, such as positive thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO antibodies) and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Both celiac disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis are autoimmune conditions, and there can be some overlap in terms of immune system responses...

Anyone get sick delivering/handling food?
Scott Adams replied to StrongerThanCeliac's topic in Super Sensitive People
The vast majority of celiacs won't have issues or symptoms in the work scenario you described, but we had similar reports from others who are super sensitive, especially by those who have worked in regular wheat bread bakeries or other similar settings. You may want to try the trunk option, and if possible, perhaps roll down the windows? -
A normal endoscopy procedure typically does not involve directly visualizing the jejunum, which is the middle part of the small intestine. Endoscopy usually focuses on examining the upper gastrointestinal tract, including the esophagus, stomach, and the upper part of the small intestine called the duodenum. If the procedure is specifically aimed at diagnosing...

Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The...

Lupine, when used as an ingredient in foods, generally refers to lupin beans or lupin flour derived from the seeds of lupin plants, specifically various species from the Lupinus genus. Lupin beans are legumes, similar to peas or lentils, and they have been used historically in Mediterranean and Latin American cuisines. Lupin flour is made by grinding these...

Both companies you have mentioned are among the very early adopters of making gluten-free products, and have been around since at least the 1990's. They were among the very first companies to offer prepared gluten-free products, so that we didn't have to make everything from scratch. Some of us "old timers" still remember that the only way to eat gluten-free...

Your test results indicate that you are almost 13 times the cutoff level for a positive celiac disease test, which means you most likely have it. In the UK and other places many doctor now diagnose celiac disease without a biopsy/endoscopy when you are 10x or more that the cut off, so you may not have to undergo that procedure depending on what your doctor...

Falling off the wagon and losing control of my diet
Scott Adams replied to JohnAdam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Also, regarding @NNowak having a "laissez faire course of inaction," my experience with my own kids has made me realize that the age old expression that you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink, is very true. I've spent lots of time trying to educate my kids about the issues gluten is causing them, and currently only one is now truly gluten... -

celiac safety ?
Scott Adams replied to Ironsun's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some regular beers contain very low amounts of gluten, but it's probably best to stick with a gluten-removed or gluten-free beer: -
Has anyone here had perianal DH?
Scott Adams replied to newtonfree's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
If it is certified gluten-free you should be fine. -
I am not sure if the products used will be searchable in this database, but.... You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the...

The Brigade -Tooley Street don’t go there.
Scott Adams replied to Martin Richards's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I agree that this restaurant is handling things all wrong. On one hand they seem to invite celiacs by having such a check box when booking, but on the other hand they don't want to serve people with celiac disease!!?? This seems like a very strange, not customer friendly approach to me. Especially if they only told you this after your arrival there. At the... -

Scott Adams replied to newtonfree's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You may also need to avoid foods high in iodine, as this causes flare up in some people with DH. These foods can include seafood, seaweed, dairy, etc. -
Newly diagnosed
Scott Adams replied to Michele Ann's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You may notice the difference within days, as I did, but you should definitely notice symptom improvements withing a few weeks, if gluten is the cause of your symptoms. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful: -
