ARCHIVED New Celiac
Canadian Karen replied to bmzob's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My favourite is Kinnickinnick. Their Tapioca English Muffins are amazing! What you need to do is microwave them for 50 seconds, take it out, turn it over, let it sit for about 2 minutes, then slice it, then toast it. Comes out wonderfully moist. Have you downloaded the delphi list yet? It is a list that is an absolute essential. You would be amazed... -
ARCHIVED Catch Y'all Later.
Canadian Karen replied to penguin's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
As you all probably remember, I too had to take a break for a while (go into my famous shell, so to speak), when I was attacked by a few particularly vicious posters while I was a moderator. I completely understand the need to take a break sometimes. It is true that this forum, or any for that matter, is cyclical. Us dinosaurs have been through it... -
ARCHIVED 12 Weeks Of Hell
Canadian Karen replied to Chris E's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Chris! Welcome to the board! From the symptoms you have posted, it certainly sounds like celiac, or at the very least, gluten intolerence, could be the problem. There are dozens on this board who have had incredible success on the gluten free diet, even though their bloodwork was negative. Keep in mind that it is becoming widely accepted that there... -
Hi Ricco! Glad you found us! You probably are an old pro at the gluten-free diet, being on it for seven years, but if anything you read sheds some light for you, just ask away! Don't be shy, our motto is there is no such thing as a stupid question..... There's a great bunch of people on here. Again, welcome! Karen

Canadian Karen replied to Ursa Major's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Steve, gotta luv ya - this statement gave me a good chuckle. Just goes to show how much you care about us and Ursula in particular in this situation. You have no idea how true this is...... For me, the diagnosis of refractory celiac sprue is official now and even I have to believe it (reminds me, I must alter my signature.....) The... -

ARCHIVED A Question About Enterolab
Canadian Karen replied to IMResident's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Does that mean when I was pregnant with the twins, I was excessively pregnant? I don't think IMResident is just trying to "rile us". I think he sincerely is looking at all angles but the cutting edge way of thinking in regards to celiac doesn't fit well with someone trying to fit into the typical "doctor mold". Perhaps if more residents starting... -
ARCHIVED A Question About Enterolab
Canadian Karen replied to IMResident's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
IMResident, I think one thing you are overlooking is that although you might have 100% faith in the blood test and what it is supposed to do, you are forgetting to factor in the labs and the people who are supposed to administer these blood tests. I have to wonder how many labs in Canada or US have bothered to update and get current with the new blood... -
ARCHIVED Great Suggestions!
Canadian Karen replied to BostonCeliac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My local A&P supermarket stocks them for me. They have a whole section of gluten-free stuff in the frozen section. I have discovered a magic trick regarding the engligh muffins. You keep them frozen, and when you want want, take it out, put it in the microwave for 50 seconds. Take it out, turn it over, and let it sit for 1 - 2 minutes. Then slice... -

ARCHIVED Shocking Story #2
Canadian Karen replied to concerned-mom061's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't see why there can't be both simutaneously.... Concerned Mom, I am joyfully happy at the result and hope the same for Cindy. I know if I were in your situation, I would be thanking God not only for guiding all those concerns into the right direction for a proper verdict, but also for the level of comfort He gave you during this trying time. gfp... -
ARCHIVED How Many Of You/your Children Were Preemies?
Canadian Karen replied to skipper30's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My oldest daughter was 2 days late, weighing 7 lb. 7 oz. My second daughter was 2 days late, weighing 6 lb. 5 oz. My twin boys were 9 weeks early (born at 31 weeks gestation). They both weighed 3 lb. 12 oz. Daniel broke his water, deciding to come early because Connor kept on kicking him in the head! The only child exhibiting possible symptoms... -

That's what I like to see - a great attitude! I love Kinnickinnik also! I love their english muffins! Karen -
Little by little it's creeping into TV shows like that. I have heard it on Raven where her friend and her mother were eating gluten-free spaghetti. Every little bit of exposure helps! Karen

ARCHIVED Shocking Story #2
Canadian Karen replied to concerned-mom061's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It absolutely defies logic as to why these doctors are much more open to the idea of the mother having this extremely rare mental disorder RATHER than the child having a disease that affects 1 in 133. I think gfp is onto something. Perhaps the hospital is trying to cover their tracks because they thought they were going to be sued for doing a poor job... -
ARCHIVED Tazorac Cream - Anyone Ever Use This?
Canadian Karen replied to DingoGirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Celia, Is it an asthma attack or a panic attack? Panic attacks that I used to get scared the bejeebers out of me. I just had to concentrate on breathing in deep through my nose and letting it out smoothly out the mouth. I would also sit and rock myself gently as I was doing it. I would kinda get into a trance where I can stave off the panic attack... -
I too have tried to pinpoint where in my family I got celiac from. There is depression and lupus on my dad's side. But it's my mom's side that I am suspicious of. My grandfather and his brother apparently had stomach problems their whole life. As far as I can remember, I remember Grampy eating only baby food and baby rice pablum or boiled chicken. That...

ARCHIVED Laugh Of The Day
Canadian Karen replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
All of you "hoverers" would love Paris. When I was on my honeymoon, we went to party for the day at Jim Morrison's grave at Pere Lachaise Cemetery. I had to go REAL bad as there is much drinking that goes on there (an experience of a lifetime - I felt like I was at Woodstock!) and when I went into the public restroom, they are "stand up" ones, complete...
