purple replied to Youngceliac16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ditto. I read about a test "they" did to see which chocolate was the one better for you and dove dark was high on the list, even higher than some of the bars at the health food store. But who knows how accurate it was. "They" only tested like 10 kinds. -

ARCHIVED Different Reactions To Different Foods With Gluten
purple replied to wsieving's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I remember reading somewhere that whole wheat bread has more gluten in it than regular white bread. I also read that your body reacts the same way. Think of it likes fleas on a dog...you try to kill them right away. Compared to fleas on the carpet...you smoke bomb the whole house. Both cause harm/trouble. The dogs can get worse, spreads to other animals... -

ARCHIVED Rice And Bean Casserole
purple replied to purple's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
FYI, I tried this casserole in the crock pot today. I used brown rice, about 20 oz. of canned flavored tomatoes, pureed a bit. Set it on 350 and it was done in about 2 hours. Watch it b/c it soaked up the liquid just like it does in the oven. Adding cheese after serving. Oh, I added some already cooked chicken when the rice was done. Easy if you if don't... -
What all is she allergic to? I have a good applesauce oatmeal muffin recipe if you can't get yours to work. I can post if you want it. Another good recipe I tried recently called Breakfast Brownies, list to use 1 1/3 cups oats or to try 1 cup Quinoa flakes. They are so good. They taste like gingerbread cookie and my hubby said applecrisp. You can add any...

Here is the web site for the frosting: Open Original Shared Link It has alot of substitution recipes that might help. There is a carrot cake that doesn't have flour(weird?) but it has 1/2 cup honey you may need to sub and it has 1 1/2 cups apple juice- you could sub Welch's white grape juice. It has raisins. I don't bake much with coconut flour or almond flour but you could try it. Also you might try just the the starches. There is a book out by Ryberg (sp?) that only uses starches in the recipes. Experiment with 1/2 a recipe. -

Replacement...you can cut up drinking straws, they even make colored ones if you can find them. Also look for the ones that don't bend on the end or you may have to cut it off. Try the $ store too. Some are bigger than others so keep your eye out, the smaller ones will be harder to push the string through. We used to use them at my day care and they don't...
