  1. There are celiacs all over the world; don't give up on your dreams! Enterolab offers a TTG test that may be a bit more informative as it looks at autoimmune activity. Read this celiac.com blog post: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/blog/856/entry-1546-enterolab-a-scientists-viewpoint/ If I remember correctly, Dr Fine did submit a paper for publication...
  2. Hello, A friend is feeling much better on the FODMAP diet. She's been told that she needs a Breath Hydrogen Test She's also been told that she needs to eat gluten for 6 weeks before taking this test. She doesn't have any particular reason to test for celiac based on this: Open Original Shared Link So can she take the breath test without...
  3. possibly helpful resources: The book, The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice and Sustainablilty. Good websites to find sustainable foods (animal and produce) eatwild.com localharvest.com If you choose to add back some meat: Open Original Shared Link Good luck with your research
  4. Summer 2011, there was a big deal international conference for gastroenterologists, etc. In fall, 2011, a large group of them published a concensus paper to try to establish the terms used when discussing the various conditions related to wheat (Baker's asthma, celiac, etc) and this paper makes the term NCGS or non-celiac gluten sensitivity, official. ...
  5. You may not need that Heartburn supplement at all soon! When you say: "If that info is not correct (as much of the info out there is) I don't have to be as concerned about every little glutenous crumb" That makes me a little nervous. All my spouses tests and biopsy were negative but he needs to be very careful. He can't just take the hamburger off...
  6. I took the same route as you - gluten free all the way. I do not allow it in my home. Why - because gluten stole from me. Years. And then, the oddest thing happened, and I got the biggest surprise payoff for my "sacrifice" - I got rid of my migraines, my 19 day a month chronic migraine problem - gone just like that. Everything you describe...
  7. If it looks like any of these, getting your blood sugar checked would help. And a glucose meter of your own will help you fine tune your diet faster Open Original Shared Link
  8. After wax, there's films or "MAP"s Modified Atmosphere Packaging or "active packaging" MAPs are often used on gluten-free baked goods to improve shelf life. Overview article here Open Original Shared Link "Active packaging" is a newcomer, an alternative to MAPS. On the plus side, using a MAP means less additives for some prepared foods. On the...
  9. I think that you may need a more comprehensive thyroid test panel; because of the celiac you are at risk of autoimmune versions of thyroid problems. If your thyroid is not working well, you could have trouble with iron. I'm sorry, I don't remember the details; please read over at the Stop The Thyroid Madness for some top quality info. They can help you if...
  10. Have you had your thyroid checked recently?
  11. Just fine, thanks! I am so glad to hear that you've got the energy to get out and about and do the things you want to do. It is great that you were able to get away and compare how you felt with what happens at work. Is there any possibility of gluten at work (drywall dust?) or some other environmental influence?
  12. How are things coming along?
  13. oh wait - and alcohol! big variable there!
  14. other possible variables - the amount of exercise you've gotten recently (not just that day) the time of day you eat the carbs. You may handle more at dinner. Stress such as a cold or emotional upset. It really is a puzzle and a very individual one!
  15. Your 2 hour #'s from Wednesday look good and I am so glad to hear that you are feeling a bit better. Next time, how about a set of 1 hour #'s? That's 1 hour from the first bite of the meal or snack. thanks!
  16. "mission mode" - I like that! fat is your friend! I really like spaghetti squash. It also freezes well so I can cook once, eat many...
  17. I agree that docs should be a little more forthcoming. If I am walking on the edge of a cliff, I'd like to know! There is a "magic formula" for diabetics, according to Bernstein. It is a Way of Eating abbreviated 6-12-12. In other words, 6 grams of carb at breakfast, 12 at lunch and dinner. no snacks. I think this is a way too much for you as a non...
  18. My spouse felt the same way about buying a meter. He ended up giving his a name, Audrey, after the blood sucking plant in Little House of Horrors. You hang in there, you are doing great things for your health!
  19. You should also check your blood sugar. Even if the doctor's office tests are normal (fasting glucose and A1c), you should get a meter and check your blood glucose level before you eat and again 1 hour after the first bite. Any time your blood sugar goes over 140, you are causing damage to your nerves and organs even if you are not diabetic. Open Original...
  20. Testing - you need to be checking after meals rather than fasting numbers at this point. Try testing one meal a day. Test before and after breaakfast on a weekend, test before and after lunch the next day, same for the dinner the next. Test the meals you eat the most often and post your data here or over on Bernstein. You can gather suggestions for how...
  21. It is possible that the problem is gluten (possibly other food intolerances also) and once you get your digestive healed up you will be able to tolerate at least some carbohydrates. It is way to early to know that. But keeping your blood sugar steady speeds up healing so you are doing the right thing!
  22. I can't really answer your question. All I can tell you is that my spouse was checked for a pituitary tumor and I ended up reading a lot over at the PNA, but this was a few years ago and my memory is not that trustworthy! The general consensus was that these tumors (benign!) are very difficult to find. They repeatedly stressed choosing your doc very carefully...
  23. Hi SleepyBunny, Your situation sounds a lot like my spouse. He had no positive tests for celiac, and his blood sugar was off. Fortunately, like you, it was caught early. Missy'smom has given you excellent advice; I am just expanding on her remarks. The Bloodsugar 101 website she mentioned also comes in book form if that would be easier for you to read...
  24. You may want to check out this book Open Original Shared Link Or consider asking a question on the Bernstein Diabetes Forum. I am not saying that you are diabetic or that this is a blood sugar problem; I just think there's info on that issue in the book and on the forum that may be helpful to you. an overview of causes: Open Original Shared Link...
