  1. I can't answer that question for you. I can only say to try it and see how you feel. Those symptoms are certainly ones I get from fresh dairy. I cannot tolerate Lactaid but my daughter can. Each of us is so different that what works for me may not work for you. I would try the Lactaid again and see if things settle down. Then if you want to, you can...
  2. As far as the break room, I've read several parents whose child has their own tray for food at school. They always put their food on the tray only, never on the table. I may not go that far but a friend always opened a napkin under her food like a placemat. I also got into the habit and that would probably suffice.
  3. I don't understand any of the genetics and I thought I was a pretty smart person. I feel dumb when I read about it too. I'm glad there are people here who understand it for all of us. Meanwhile, what I do know is how your body is responding to the gluten-free diet and that's the most important fact. Remember, dr's and geneticists are only still...
  4. Why don't you talk to your dr again and express to him your very real fears? You can report the amazing way gluten-free makes you feel. See if he can't pressure the GI to give you a priority status. At the very least you can call the GI office and ask that they put you in for any cancellations. Tell them you are willing to go at any time. If you're off...
  5. I'm an adult, a year and a half in, and I have 4-6 BM's a day. More probably than normal but my system was pretty damaged. I'm just happy not to double over in pain each time.
  6. Sounds like cc to me, if it's starting to blister. I had two different rashes, the blistery kind and the other the little bumps looked more like hives but with deep purple spreading out under the skin. Both itched like crazy and were very painful. For me the blisters can pop out with a pretty strong glutening incident. The other rash only reoccurs if...
  7. Brothers are the same the world over and they don't change much. Which is probably how I grew up to be such a smart alec, the only weapon I had over an older and younger brother was my brain so the sarcastic comeback became my weapon. I thought up several of those reading your story but the truth is I didn't like growing up in that kind of atmosphere...
  8. What were your symptoms before going gluten-free? Those are probably the ones you would feel if glutened now, only worse. Sounds like your friend took good care of you.
  9. It'll get easier, I promise. Just start with the simplist meals and after a few weeks, branch out slowly, one new food at a time and you'll have the hang of it in no time. You need to go through your cupboards and purge anything with gluten. Toss it, donate it, cook it for your church but don't eat it. Look at the ingredients on all your spices, some...
  10. I think your Tupperware should be ok with a severe handwashing. I've been using mine that way. I read others say toss the toaster oven but I don't use one so I'm not sure on that one. If it's like a toaster then I would toss or like you said, run over with your car, burn and mail to Zimbabwe. I use all my old baking pans just lined and no problem. ...
  11. If you have the rash, you can be tested for DH. If that is positive, you are celiac. Make sure they biopsy it properly, beside the lesion not from the lesion itself. You can access and article from the home page that outlines the procedure. I know that the genetic testing does not diagnose but when other testing fails but you have a strong dietary...
  12. I posted recently with my symptoms but for those who did not see it. For 8+ years I have basically looked pregnant but am not. The bloating is so bad and uncomfortable. The gas is horrible at night. I have tried every diet excpet gluten free. I see a doctor next week. I also have eczema, migraines, FATIGUE!!!!, stomach aches constantly, not much diarrhea...
  13. I would say 20 minutes to a couple of hours. Mine is first gastro distress.
  14. What if your dr is wrong and you do have it? Just putting that out there as it wouldn't be the first wrong diagnosis. It doesn't really matter, if you're responding well to the diet, that's the best feeling in the world. I don't think any of us can predict how far you can go. It might be fun for you to keep a simple diary where you say how you felt...
  15. It does take time and each person is different. Your dr is being honest when he cannot give you a definate answer. It could be your child is still ingesting gluten from somewhere you thought was safe. Do you keep a food journal? That can be very helpful to you and your dr when trying to pinpoint symptoms. Also make a note of how your child is feeling...
  16. There are a couple of possibilities; either you are getting sneaky gluten somewhere you don't suspect or there is something else wrong. We can become so used to the diet that we become lax in checking out the basic foods and spices we've been using. I would suggest you go through your cupboards and spice rack and double check it all. Formulas change...
  17. I think that is a very personal decision and I wouldn't presume to make it for you. There are arguments on both sides of the issue that are valid. It is good to have baseline testing in case there could be another reason for your symptoms. I personally chose not to do it. I would be too sick and I run my own business. I cannot be sick that long...
  18. I mostly have to let it run it's course. But I do take extra B!2, it helps a little. I drink tea, rest as much as I'm able and eat safe foods as much as my body demands. I'm usually super hungry during a glutening.
  19. Some folks are just more sensitive than others. I also mantain a mixed household with just my DH and I. I can appreciate the problems with children though. It may help you to relate to your husband if he goes with you on your dr visits so he is on the same page. If he will, it would be helpful to him to read a little more about celiac disease maybe on...
  20. That is great news!! Thanks for the update.
  21. Yeah I usually take extra B12 too. I have tea and gluten-free chicken noodle soup. One of my reactions is ravenous hunger so I indulge that and eat as much as my body wants with safe foods. Lay around and nap if I need to also.
  22. I know someone mentioned anemia and that's a possibility but what you described would be a typical hypoglycemic crash for me. Add to that shakiness and breaking out in a dripping sweat and there you go. Every has given you great advice and I'm just going along with it. I cannot function without more protein than most people. I've also been more careful...
  23. Of course you're right but that's not really the point. I never read a lable on plain meat until this was brought to my attention. I think it is important to point out because newbies to this diet may not know about the additives and also may not read the label. It's just sharing the info for the safety of us all.
  24. Rice pasta is OK but if you are picky about texture, Tinkyada is the best all around. As the other poster pointed out, even non-gluten-free guests cannot tell the difference with Tinkyada. And no fair mentioning world famous meatballs without a recipe. You guys are making me hungry.
  25. I like the shapes too but I thought I'd tell you how I treat my pasta to avoid the stickies or clumpies. I worked for Pizza Hut and we sold cavatini. I was the morning prep person so I cooked the pasta. Pasta was cooked fresh every 3rd day unless we ran out. We were a very small store so we rarely ran out. You cooked the pasta al dente the normal way...
