  1. I have had the scalp sores for many years. I stopped using shampoo maybe 9 years ago. I "wash" my hair with a conditioner, rinse, then apply apple cider vinegar. I leave that to soak my scalp while I take care of other business. Finally I rinse and apply a very small amount of heavy conditioner, my hair is very thick. The vinegar leaves your hair very...
  2. No, I've never reacted to parm. What else did you eat? Seasonings?
  3. You are so right, Robin! I called about throat drops I reacted to & was told "natural flavors" was a propriotory formula. She wouldn't tell me what was in it. So now I don't know why I reacted. If I had gone into shock maybe then they would "disclose". Angie in Indiana
  4. I'm with you; gyno problems are a huge pain...I have suffered yeast infections for 30 years. I was glad when you could buy maconozole over the counter because I needed it just about every month. I tried everything I could think of to "cure" them. I've been gluten-free for 10 months, with slips, and have had very little problem with the infections.
  5. I am sorry you're having so much pain. I do understand. All the suggestions are good ones but it all depends on your individual pain. My pain even at age 50 is similar to giving birth every month along with other symptoms. When I began cycling longer and closer together, I went back to my OB. I have no physical problems to be fixed so finally my doctor...
  6. I thank everyone who posted to this thread, it brought to light some dark sides of eating gluten I hadn't admitted to myself. I agree that pressure from others is one of the hardest things to bear. As I have said before, if you're not wearing a cast that people can see, they don't really believe or understand your suffering. My only way of coping with...
  7. Some say caramel coloring should be safe in the US but I was reacting to it so I stopped eating it. Hope you feel better soon!
  8. My friend in town has a daughter who is in college locally. She was diagnosed celiac this year. I know this summer she was out of the country with her school & was glutened badly from a malted drink. If you want me to, I will ask her mother for her permission to pass on contact info.
  9. It does me so much good to read these posts. I have been eating gluten-free for 10 months and have probably had every reaction you have all described! I finally made up my mind that I will never go to a function without taking my own food. I will never attend a party & be ashamed to ask about the ingredients, but still take my own food. I will...
  10. I'm glad you're telling people. Years ago a friend from high school told me she was celiac. I often tried to imagine how she shopped, cooked, ate out or traveled with her family. Wow! Later we moved from AZ back to my hometown of Milford, IN, and now this friend styles my hair. I have passed on recipes & gluten-free food gifts to her. When...
  11. On another note, I have started putting vaseline on the cuts and tears to see if that keeps them from drying out and splitting even more.
  12. I usually just describe it as an allergy. Of course that's an incorrect term but one lay people understand. I have been surprised at the number of people who do get that it's celiac. There are many more out there than we realize. Most lay people understand that some food allergies cause your throat to close & could lead to death. If you say it's...
  13. How about a turtle? It's been a long time since we had one & I don't know about it's food but if your finding out about fish food, turtle food shouldn't be that hard to figure out. They will eat lettuce as a supplement also.
  14. Sorry, I have to make a correction to my yesterday's post. I listed my dip recipe as milk free & it definately is not! I apologize for the slip. I sometimes forget that even though I cannot tolerate fresh milk, I can handle most cheeses. That doesn't mean others can. Please forgive the error.
  15. Not only do I suddenly love chips but I invented a dip for them that's filling & gluten-free & milk free! I munch on this frequently. When I get too hungry, that's when I'm very tempted to eat something gluteny. Not good. Try this: Mix one large brick of cream cheese with one can chopped tomatoes with green chilis (WalMart). Yum....don...
