  1. I was in a similar financial situation last year when I suspected celiac. I simply went on an elimanation diet & diagnosed myself. She doesn't need test results to tell her what a simple diet can; her health is much improved gluten-free. I personally don't see the need for the testing if you see such a dramatic improvement in your health as I did....
  2. I usually make my own pizza crust in the bread machine but on "fast food" nights, I use corn tortillas for the pizza base. This usually follows a pattern; first night, big pan of sauce with meat & mushrooms (your taste) served with his pasta and my pasta. Store extra in fridge and freeze some for next week. On the second night, I make my pizzas with...
  3. Are there other older kids who could maybe mentor her? Maybe there is a group in your area where you could ask about her meeting an older child who she might respect, that has celiac. You know at her age kids often will listen more to other kids than their parents. OK... I was one of those. I think the advice of having really yummy substitutes...
  4. I hear you on the busy scale, Lonewolf. With kids, time seems to s-q-u-e-e-z-e! I gained 1 last week & last night I started on a sore throat. I'll just keep on plugging. Today br. is 2 eggs, tortillas, coffee lunch chicken breast & a few noodles. Then to the dentist. Fun... Hang in ladies and hope everyone has a successful day and can...
  5. Wow, a week has gone by and I havn't posted like normal. Been kind of crazy at the flower shop. I had a reaction this week & so did my friend. Strangely we both had ham for a couple of days & narrowed it down to that. I brought the lable to research as I thought it was OK. So...I gained a pound this week as often happens when I'm glutened. But...
  6. I have been getting sores on my scalp for years. I assumed I was sensitive to shampoos , I guess I was, & I would switch around to different brands every bottle. The symptoms always came back. Finally I stopped using shampoo completely. I had fewer outbreaks but really had success when I went gluten-free a year ago. This week I had a new breakout...
  7. You might want to check your birth control. I found that one type I took caused a reaction. Sorry I don't remember its name. I'm back on Nuvaring now & do fine with it.
  8. I thought celiac could also be diagnosed through a positive DH biopsy. Am I wrong?
  9. I know I couldn't eat fruits for a long time when I started the gluten-free diet a year ago. Recently I have been able to tolerate citris again and apples, both a no-no for a long time. Give it some time. Other foods may react the same. Don't get to discouraged just reintroduce in a few months.
  10. Her response to the diet is the key for you. You of course can do more testing but she must be actively eating gluten for more testing. I don't even want to put myself through that. IMO, The fact that she is doing well is enough, I just don't think it's important to know the difference between sensitive & Celiacs, either way she is sick when she eats...
  11. I'm so glad to hear you are changing doctors. No one should be condescended to or dismissed out of hand. You may not agree with what I have to say but you should have the common courtesy to hear me out, after all, Dr. , you are the expert & I a layman. I respected you enough to come to you for answers not double talk. I have had most of the symptoms...
  12. Well, I'm short but I think my days of the 130's are a thing of the past. I wasn't thin like that but acceptable. Now I would be please if I could lose 5-10 pounds every year and keep it off until I made about 140. The celiac stuff just wreaked havoc on my weight the last 20 years. I want to get a handle on it again and now I know I can. I never could...
  13. I kind of rebel with that much discipline. Isn't it dumb to rebel against your own self? I don't know why I do that. Only seven to go? That's impressive. Clothes loosening up is such a great feeling! Last night I ate leftover pizza and peanut butter cookies w/OJ. went to celiac meeting, after had tea & a pear. breakfast coffee w/ soy milk...
  14. My DH gets relief from taking L-lysine, natural & very effective for healing & pain.
  15. My Mom & my sister both get attacks like you descibe. I'm celiac & all my pain has gone away. I think my sister has it too but she just goes and gets a steroid injection every few months & thinks that's OK. Sigh. I have no experience but I have read some people having success with taking pure aloe vera to ease arthritis pain. It wouldn't...
  16. I think your daughter is lucky to have a mother who loves her enough to worry over her every mouthful. DH will be more carefull next time & you can both know it will happen again. It's hard enough to deal with for oneself but a toddler, WOW! I think you're the best kind of Mom!
  17. I have to add that I recently began the B12 and feel great! A big change in energy & well being. Thanks to all those who have been recommending it. My neurological symptoms took time to clear up and improve. But the digestion sure sounds like you were glutened. I don't delay that long but many others report they do.Those husband crumbs are killer...
  18. Here we go, a new week! Yesterday, Sunday Breakfast ham & eggs, tortillas w/butter, coffee with soy milk Lunch rice w/lemon juice, chicken quarter, orange juice Snacked on peanut butter cookies Dinner I used my new pizza stone, so cool! Made chicken alfredo pizza, it was a little bland but good for a first effort. The stone was incredible...
  19. For me, smaller & smaller amounts make me react. Also my reactions sometimes have variations that I can't figure out. I seem to always have D, but sometimes tremors, brain fog, achy joints, unqenchable hunger, lethargy, rashes...these can be in any combination. I recently stopped all sup[lements but B12 and am feeling great. I need to research each...
  20. I actually lost a pond but I didn't count it because I had gained it before.....at least it's off again. Did some light lifting on the jiggly arms. I need to see how much is safe, I cracked my shoulder last time I went all out. Painful. I was strong enough but my shoulder didn't appreciate the effort. I like the salty soup explanation. I'll save...
  21. Good job changing your kitchen. My whole point was to be proactive. You are absolutely right about being an adult and respecting you and your needs. I've realized in the last year though that even people close to us often are unwilling to go the levels necesary to respect our total health. I don't want to fall into the old childish habits of mine...
  22. If you go to the dermititis herpitiformis section, there is any article, DH Summary. It does not talk about how being gluten-free can aggect the outcome, but it does say exactly how the biopsy s/b done. I don't think you'd have the rash if your body didn't still have gluten in it. It did take weeks for mine to heal after I went gluten-free. Anyone...
  23. Thanks so much for the dinner insight! I'm always asking people what's for dinner? I just run out of ideas. I love your ideas. I really want to try the pot pie, m-m-m-mmm.
  24. You know, there must be different kinds of rashes. I had 2 different rashes. You can have it biopsied. There is a certain way to do it. On a previous post they described it. On the home page look for the dermatitis herpetiformis category, it has lots of info & talks about the testing. It also has links to some pictures. That might be helpful.
  25. You know, I have never been thin but I could always control my weight until my DD was born. In hindsight, that was my trigger time. My weight has really gone up & doctors always poo-pooed it. No amount of exercise affects my weight. I've been gluten-free for almost a year & I eat a LOT! No weight gain, kept off the weight w/no effort. When I had...
