  1. I guess as a parent of a 21 yr old who as a little girl who could get very angry, I would say the angrier & more out of control she becomes the more calm & reasonable you should be. She may well be in pain and the gluten can cause even my mood to shift but...you and your spouse should not tolerate rude or loud behavior. I would tell my daughter...

    ARCHIVED Itching

if you think it's DH, it can be biopsied for a celiac DX. Check out the article (accessed from the homepage) that outlines the proper way to do the test. Take your pictures into the dr with you so you can show why you believe it's DH. A picture is worth a thousand words! I think I would approach my family dr first as you may need a referral. Good...
  3. Hang in there and try not to be too angry, very hard, so your child can get the care needed. I also am self diagnosed and it seems like I see potential Celiacs everywhere! My friend is going through a similar problem with her grandchild. After years of taking him from dr to dr, and this child has very strong Celiac symtoms, they finally found a ped to...
  4. Collette, Do you like Alfredo? I have been making awesome Chicken Alfredo pizza lately inspired by a friend. I make my own crust, you can use a boughten crust as you like. Bertoli Alfredo sauce is gluten-free. I add chicken that I have already cooked and seasoned, cheeses and any other spices you like. Bake & there you go, pizza fix extroidenaire...
  5. You know, quite a lot of celiacs cannot tolerate dairy, some are able to return to it in time. But you must heal first. Probably a good idea to lay off dairy for now at least. I could not tolerate fruits until recently, gluten-free for a year. Better with them now. Be gentle with yourself. After all, it took a long time for you to get this sick, you...
  6. I thank you all for the great support. Life is so much clearer since I visit this family every day. I don't feel isolated. The other great thing is you can talk about any subject without judgement. Thanks...
  7. Wow, was I that brave at your age? Not even close, you are my new hero for standing up to bullies and teaching others. Thank your compassionte friends for standing by you. They're the ones who wil be with you a lifetime. The bullies, students and teachers, will go through life afraid, insecure and unhappy. I'm proud of you and glad you shared your story...
  8. I certainly did have numbness and tingling in my feet, along with seeping and sometimes infected large toenail. That has all cleared up in the past year. This summer I had the worst glutening so far & both toes infected again after being healed. One healed right away, one just finally healed this week. When I described it to my GP, he laughed about...
  9. Thanks for posting that link. Those are the first pictures that finally match up to my rashes, I knew what they were but it's nice to have the confirmation. I wish I had found those when my friend was trying to ID her grandchild's rashes. We did find others but your find was better, I thought. I have another friend who's son's rash I'm sure is DH. She...
  10. Thank you for the great mac & cheese recipe. You had posted it another thread & your easy directions made me remember it by heart. I made it and really liked it! haven't had that dish in a long time. Sorry I didn't respond before. For you no dairy folks, me too!! I used chicken broth instead of milk, m-m-m!!
  11. I was very excited to make the GReen Bean Casserole after another post said to use Progresso & Funyuns. The problem is the Cream of Mushroom soup is no where to be found! Where do you buy it? I know I can make it from scratch but there is so much other work to do for Thanksgiving I wanted to simplify. Anyone know where to find this product?
  12. I don't know about nitrates/ites and celiacs but the last two times I had ham, I reacted. My friend also reacted. All I can think is the nitrites/ates. I'm going to try these alternatives and see how I feel.
  13. I have never reacted to canned mushrooms but I think we definately need the recipe to this famous dish so we can all "test" it to determine its safety!!
  14. Sorry you had a problem. It's so discouraging when you thought you were being safe. I've been having a similar problem with ham. For tortillas I just buy the cheap Walmart corn tortillas that have 2 or 3 ingredients, never had a problem with those. I agree it might be CC. Hope you feel better!
  15. Hi to both new members. I just wanted to tell you if you don't want to mess with the breads much in the beginning, you don't have to. If the flours are hard for you to find it could be a pain for awhile. I just used corn tortillas in the beginning and I liked them so well I don't make much bread even though I have a machine. I toast tortillas with butter...
  16. Welcome, Becki! I didn't work with a dietician but I have a good friend with celiac disease & she was a big inspiration and help to me. This website has been the most helpful to me. I agree with you that it's like a big ol' family and how great that they support you and believe in you! I will second the advice to start with simple basic foods...
  17. I bring my own food where ever I go, I was invited to my sister's IL's after T'gvg and I told them I would bring my own food. I know longer worry how it looks or if someone else thinks I'm weird.
  18. Awesome!! If you can do it with a toddler, the rest of us adults can surely do it. Can you share what kind of foods you chose at the buffets?
  19. Why can't you call your cardiologist's nurse for advice? I have found that nurses are very effective advocates and knowledgable too. Describe the symptoms that more strongly point to her heart and say you don't know if this is something serious or if she's well enough to wait for the appointment. Just ask the nurse what do you think? If it is serious...

    ARCHIVED Help

It took weeks for my DH to clear up. I know it's supposed to be safe but this spring I had a DH reaction to the caramel coloring in my coffee syrups. When I stopped those, it cleared up...sigh.
  21. I'm very sensitive although much improved on the gluten-free diet. I use and inexpensive hair conditioner, Smells nice and is non irritating.
  22. It's not a pill but an insert. I have had good luck with the Nuvaring. My periods are so bad, you name it I feel it, the dr's keep me on continuous with no period any more. WHat a relief! I can function again and feel human. Good luck with your search.
  23. My daughter has a TV/ movie night with her friends and they like this layered dip with corn chips. Layer a can of gluten-free chili, there are lots of those at any grocery. Layer first a brick of cream cheese then the chili then your favorite cheese. Micro till warmed then if you like cold toppings, add those. Maybe chopped onions, lettuce, tomatoes...
  24. I too am having a problem with coffee and I'm planning to completely give it up this week. I'm OK with caffeine in tea so I guess it's not that. How do like that? I have a gourmet coffee bar in my flower shop and I can't have coffee! By the way I seem to remember that on another thread, someone mentioned they were having a reaction to the coffee filters...
  25. [ I have a horrible sweet tooth. You are describing me. The first thing I learned to make was Peanut Butter Cookies with no flour of any kind. If you haven't found the recipe, let me know I'll send it. It's a common one. The second thing was Death by Chocolate cake. The recipe was on the cacao website. It has 4 T. flour which I substitute with...
