ARCHIVED Positive Ttg - Can It Be An Indication Of Something Else?
ang1e0251 replied to sazzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's true, you will have to continue eating gluten if you want to be tested by biopsy. Even then it may not show positive if performed incorrectly or if not read correctly. It's your choice. Second choice, go on a gluten free diet and see how you feel. If you feel as good as I did, you will not want to eat gluten again, certainly not for 3 months... -
ARCHIVED Should I Find A Doctor Specializing In Celiac?
ang1e0251 replied to NYCCeliacMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm a self-diagnosed overweight celiac!! There are many of us out there. My dr is scepticle about my dx too. He thinks I attribute too many symptoms to celiac. He doesn't really know much about it and I think that is typical of most gp's. I forgive him as I am not relying on him for either a diagnosis or treatment of this condition. I'm conducting my... -
ARCHIVED Have I Been Glutened? Or Not?
ang1e0251 replied to nasalady's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My tremors are much less on the gluten-free diet. Welcome to the forum and I'm glad you're seeing relief to some of your symptoms. I've read other posters say the dizziness took a long time to go away. My neurological problems took the longest to improve like neuropothy of the feet and tremors. They haven't completely cleared up but are much improved... -
ARCHIVED New To The Site With Alot Of Questions
ang1e0251 replied to TiredofTums's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just wanted to add my welcome to you and I can certainly see why you are tired of Tums! I had the endoscopy and it was a piece of cake. I was rather a coward about it and then embarrased because it was to easy. I hope things go the way you want. I was glad to find all the answers to my weird maladies. I don't resent the diet because I now feel so... -
ARCHIVED Any Recommendations For Melting Chocolate
ang1e0251 replied to CeliacMom2008's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Chocolate is a finicky food to work with. That said, you can easily make very pretty chocolates at home when following a few chocolate tips. First I will cover dark chocolates. I use the bulk chocolate in the large bar that you can buy at most groceries. I usually buy at Walmart because the price is good and, especially this time of year,it is... -
I am no longer in a situation like you described but occasionally still have to eat at a group function. I sat hungry once or twice then decided I would never do that again. I take my own meal no matter what. I will peruse the offerings first and eat if I can, but if not, out comes my meal. I don't apologize for it or feel funny any more. I have a serious...

ARCHIVED Something New Going On
ang1e0251 replied to angieInCA's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Didn't I read on another thread about a poster who felt her tongue swelling traced to MSG? I would look to your foods again. It sounds like an allergic reaction. -
ARCHIVED Diagnosing Celiac
ang1e0251 replied to anniebeth's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I react quickly to "normal" amounts of gluten, the same day. Smaller amounts I react to a couple of days later or even very small amounts, it takes every day exposure for a few days. But each person reacts differently. It's very reasonable to hear she ate a food one day and reacted the next. Put these foods in your food/ reaction diary and report them... -
ARCHIVED Come On Already. (a Long Post, Sorry)
ang1e0251 replied to LynziMarie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Honey, don't ever let them say it's all in your head. I'll bet most of us on this site have been told that. It's not true we were just sick! You know something is wrong. I'm so-o-o glad you're feeling better on the gluten-free diet. I agree that a lot of your symptoms sound like thyroid. I think the website others recommended was stopthethyroidmadness... -
Some folks will never take you seriously unless you have an MD. Dr. Andrew Weil is the only one I know of who is listened to. He has an MD and I believe also a naturopath. I don't feel that way but many think you can't have knowledge without that particular degree. I think you have good ideas about what you want to accomplish. I say, go for it!...

ARCHIVED Leg Pain And Second Introduction
ang1e0251 replied to JRock's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are allowed to babble and whine here any time. You know it can take sometime to heal and you may have other weird symptoms before it's over. It just takes time and sometimes you may find other foods you are sensitive to on the way, dairy being a big problem for many. Maybe keeping a food/symptom diary for awhile will help you. Keep at it and... -
ARCHIVED A Little Help Please....
ang1e0251 replied to GlutenGuy36's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey I was wondering if you went off dairy also? It can give us all the blues. My daughter has that kind of stomach pain with dairy. You may be able to have it again when you heal some. -
ARCHIVED Day 8.... Still Stomach Issues
ang1e0251 replied to luciddream928's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have to go back to basics when I get glutened. Just meat, rice or potatoes and vegies. Also teas. Any grains kind of sit like a stone in my stomach. I can eat corn tortillas just fine, I like them toasted. I also make chicken noodle when I think the noodles will sit ok. Some people do take a long time to feel better. I'm sorry you're... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosing Celiac
ang1e0251 replied to anniebeth's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Very good news! Looks like you are on to something! -
Iwent to an extended family pot luck Thanksgiving last Saturday. I ate a large snack before I went and took my own food. I went through the line and found a few things I could have. Since I had already eaten, that was enough food for me. I didn't need the food I had brought. It was a lot of fun and I didn't stress about the food that way.

ARCHIVED Explaining Gluten Intolerance/celiac
ang1e0251 replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It sounds like you feel you missed an oppurtunity with your brother. Could you write him a thoughtful letter or email to explain the topics he was asking about? Start off by saying you weren't trying to brush him off but discussing symptoms that are like the stomach flu were taking away your appetite. He didn't know better. Get the info to him now so... -
When I'm really yucky I agree that chicken noodle is the best. I take a piece of chicken with water to fill and cook it in the crock pot overnight with any spices you like, just salt and pepper if you want to be simple. Then I cook noodles that I buy in the Asian section at Walmart. They have a couple of types without wheat or gluten. I cook those and...

In the beginning, I made the peanut butter cookies that have no flour (old recipe) and that helped my sweet tooth. Also full sized Snickers, not minis, are a good pick me up when you're short of time. I like pudding made with soy milk and jello.

I think if we want to be social, we just have to put up with the ignorance and cut non-celiacs some slack. After all, I have a friend 15 yrs celiac and I thought I knew the basics. What I knew could fit on the head of a pin compared to what I've learned this past year while I was on the diet. And there is so much more to learn! We really can't expect...

Those lists can be very helpful to you as you begin your journey. If you can find a support group near you, it would be great. Even if you can't attend meetings, you could contact the group and someone would probably be glad to speak to you by phone. They can give you advice on where to shop and how to get through holiday events. I had a local mentor...

ARCHIVED Anxiety About Travelling Over The Holiday
ang1e0251 replied to gluten Tag's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been on the diet for a year and I certainly felt exactly like you in the beginning. But after going to a couple of events and sitting very hungry, I promised never to put myself through that again. Last Saturday, we were invited to my sister's in law's T'gvg. Most people I've met but I not to where I want to explain my medical history. I told my sister... -
ARCHIVED Confused About Gluten Related Rash
ang1e0251 replied to gluten Tag's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
That's exactly what I get with gluten. It tooks weeks to clear up but once it did I don't get it now unless I have an ongoing secret gluten spy. I have to eat that product repeatedly to have the rash come out. If I see that rash, I need to start investigating where it came from, 'cause it's something I'm ingesting every day. This spring I had it from... -
ARCHIVED What Did I Do Wrong
ang1e0251 replied to Chrissyb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sorry it took me an extra day but I forgot the recipe yesterday. Here is the flour recipe; 6 cups white rice flour 2 cups potato starch 1 cup tapioca flour Mix it and use in recipes one for one. Yesterday I read another thread on pie crusts. They had this recipe and added 1 t. xanthum gum and one t. sugar. I haven't tried it that... -
ARCHIVED Lactose - Casein Intolerance
ang1e0251 replied to odcdinah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I react with bloat, intestinal cramps, gas, big D. I also get congested, have a thick throat and tiredness. My DD reacts differently. She has a stomach ache, congestion, tiredness and worst case, vomitting. The things is we're each different and can present with different symptoms for the same trigger. You would do well to just go off dairy for awhile... -
ARCHIVED Can You Go Out To Eat?
ang1e0251 replied to clnewberry1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Many posters report panic attacks and anxiety with gluten. I feel sad (depressed), moody and anger on a short fuse as well as mind fog. Some folks do not have the digestive upset but do get the emotional upset. Keep track of your food and reactions for awhile and see if you can't see a pattern between your food and emotional well being. That will tell...
