  1. Most allergists would agree with a GFD just on the dietary response alone. Most allergists I have heard of lately do eventually put their patients on a challenge diet to prove the sensitivity. The testing is unpredictable. I wouldn't go bad on gluten to be tested. It makes me too sick. Talk to your dr but I would think your dietary response, backed...
  2. I'm sure many persons will post for you. I don't have a problem with fruit any longer. After about 8 months gluten free, I was able to eat it again. Can you eat low sugar fruit or is it any fruit? After you are gluten-free for a few months, you may be able to reintroduce dairy and fruit.
  3. If your dr puts you off, take your test results to your PCP and ask for his help to see a GI. The sooner you can be diagnosed, the sooner you can start the diet and feel relief. None of us can say for sure your symtoms are from celiac disease or gluten intolerance but they sure sound like they might be.
  4. make sure you get the full celiac panel. Then no matter what the results, push for a biopsy.
  5. I think that "Eating Gluten Free for Dummies" by Dana Korn is one of the best. I am in a money crunch too so I asked my library to borrow it for me. Free and I took notes on the important stuff.
  6. All good advice so far. I agree with adding the protein to breakfast and the coconut milk, the kind with full cream. Watch out for those alternate flours. They are higher carb than their counterparts. It's true they're gone in a flash. Nuts are a very good snack as well as cheese if there is any you can tolerate. They have some staying power. Also avocados...
  7. Be careful taking Zicam if you are prone to headaches. I know two people who took Zicam and it triggered migraines for them.
  8. Some of those symptoms can be celiac disease related. I've recently been reading about magnesium deficiencies and increased my intake dramatically. It's improved my sleeping a lot. It is also supposed to help anxiety. This link can show you some interesting info about it. Open Original Shared Link
  9. Congratulations!! All your hard work has paid off!! This is the start of a new life for you.
  10. Thanks to riceguy I also researched magnesium and found I wasn't taking near enough. I'm bringing my dose up and it's already helping a ton!! Thanks!!
  11. I too have been increasing my magnesium. My legs sometimes seemed restless when I watched TV with them elevated. I had never had this before. When I started increasing the mag, that sensation has gone away and I am sleeping better. Not perfectly, i haven't since about age 12 but any improvement is great with me. Also I am having fewer, better formed...
  12. I have heard the "rare" word from dr's before too. I just don't believe it. Even it were the rarest condition in the world, what means your son can't have it? Because they never see rare patients? You have one gene, you're suspicious, and you have a positive dietary response. Some big red flags waving at you. It's not "rare" or even uncommon for children...
  13. I am another self-diagnosed with celiac disease. I also couldn't afford the testing when the lightbulb came on and I won't go back on gluten just to prove it. After all, I only have to prove it to myself and my body already told me what's wrong. If other's doubt me, it's OK. I do mind that my dr isn't totally on board but every time I go, he's getting...
  14. I was already lactose intolerant but could still eat a select few items. That has narrowed down to aged cheese only now. Also cannot tolerate nitrates/ites and some teas give me severe muscle pain. The first one I just don't know about, I changed to Earl Gray and am just getting over the affects. Apparantly the bergamot can block potassium to your muscles...
  15. Welcome to the Forum! You have a great dr! You will feel much better soon! Ask anything you need to and someone will be able to help.
  16. All good advice. Someone once wrote that they wrote down the 10 basic meals they normally prepared and converted them to gluten-free. That is a good idea. It helps you see you really can adjust normal foods to meet your diet. For example, spaghetti night. gluten-free pasta is available in most large groceries including Walmart, Kroger and Marsh...
  17. If you have this much pain this far in, your dentist should have seen you immediately and checked for dry socket. I had this after an extraction and it's incredibly painful. You also run the risk of infection with it. It's a common occurance with an extraction. It's so serious that my dentist saw me on a Sunday to take care of it. Get to a dentist...
  18. Rachel, Please work hard to find some gluten free treats that satisfy that craving when it hits. You shouldn't have to fight impulses all the time; that's a losing battle. Just about every food can be converted to gluten-free. That's how I stay on track.
  19. I use a lot of corn tortillas so many of my snacks are tied into those and chips. I make dip with a whole brick of cream cheese and a can of diced tomatoes with green chilis. M-m-m-m... Quesadillos made in the skillet with butter and cheese. You can throw in meat if you're in the mood. No flour peanut butter cookies. Death by Chocolate cake. Popcorn...
  20. When I make deviled eggs for a dinner with diabetics, they always disapear fast and give the meal a kind of picnic atmosphere. Don't forget to garnish with a sprinkle of paprika.
  21. Thanks for the advice. I started Atkins yesterday and it is very difficult to give up my sugar. I know I have way too much. I'm going to ask my library for the book you mentioned. You have me fascinated. I would like to eat my carbs and improve my shape at the same time!
  22. I use Antihistab the Walmart in house brand with no problem. No sleepy side affects either.
  23. I have to say I love it when a gluten-free food inspires a Happy Dance!!
  24. One of the things gluten can do is muddle our minds. Since you ate some this weekend, I'm not surprised you're confused about where your life is going. Only you can decide your health choices and I hope you make the choice to return to the healthy person you once were. I'll have to say that the only time I feel tempted by gluten is when I start to...
  25. Sorry, I have the opposite problem; putting on weight without seeming reason. Another poster said they put on weight by watching diet shows then doing the opposite! I would just say what I told my daughter when she wanted to lose 5 pounds for bikini season. Make everything you put in your mouth count. For you, try to eat dense calorie rich food. Foods...
