  1. My immune system is much stronger since going gluten-free. Although I have to vote you the Sickest of Them All!! I have increased my vitamin regimin as needed. I added the sublingual B12 and that gives me a boost and sense of well-being, I have to think my immune system loves it. Beefed up the magnesium and reduced calcium. By the way for UTI...
  2. I'm glad you're tightening up your diet. You'll feel the ongoing benefits. Keep and eye on dairy too. If those symptoms seem to come back but you are gluten-free, then look to dairy. The advice was good. Start with simple whole foods you prepare yourself. When you have a handle on that, then start adding one new food at a time as you feel competant...
  3. My post nasal drip of years improved so much gluten-free, that I no longer had to use antihistamines round the clock. Now I take a low dose one only occasionally, as needed.
  4. Oh yeah, we plan all our trips around food! I know this is fast food but I have had good luck at Wendy's with their chili and baked potato. I love diners but there is not much I could have at one now. I will order a cheese burger with no bun if I can see the kitchen. I haven't traveled too much since dx. I usually take my own food if we go to Indy...
  5. My DH also reads labels. I asked him to buy me dry roasted peanuts and he noticed the Aldi's and Walmart store brands both had wheat. Thanks, Gamal!
  6. Just wanted to pipe in that my sleep problems have improved dramatically since I increased my magnesium intake. Low mag. levels can affect sleep as well as a lot of those muscular problems like twitching and restless leg.
  7. hey, guys, just checking in. I find Mondays the best day for me to check in. This week I did OK. I think I had too many carbs for a couple of days. DH made beans and they were so-o-o yummy I pigged on them! But I stayed off sugar which is my biggest problem. Any way I maintaned my weight loss of 6 pounds down so I'm glad for that. How's everyone...
  8. I don't really distinguish the sensitivity of celiac disease and gluten intolerance as being different. I've read too many personal accounts here where people with both have severe reactions. And both groups seem to have certain folks who are ultra sensitive. Dairy is a good point. Those are some of the symptoms I experience with dairy. The other...
  9. I really rely on the B12. That was good advice. I am self diagnosed. I did not have any testing and won't go back on the gluten for it now. If my livelihood depended on me being sharp, I probably would do just as you thinking of doing. The brain fog is awful and I felt stupid all the time. I'm not sure I would have enough brain on gluten to do...
  10. she is struggling a little with depression as she discovers on a daily basis one more favorite she cannot have---ever. That's the tough part...this isn't a temporary thing, something we need to just push through and we'll come out the other side. I don't think there are very many foods you cannot convert to this diet. She should not be denied her...
  11. It did that to me. I call it a "slow burn". I'd been using coffee flavorings for months, a small amount, once a day, 6 days a week. Suddenly my DH burst into full blown fun and it took me awhile to pin it down to the syrups. Stopped using them, DH cleared up.
  12. Congratulations, that is a terrific story and inspiring. I also found many more benefits going gluten-free than I ever imagined. I don't think people really believe all the symptoms that cleared up going gluten-free. I know my dr doesn't. But I don't care what anyone thinks, life is good! Right?
  13. Thanks for the replies, I had an colonoscopy about 6 weeks ago, they took 7 biopsy's but were looking for cancer, thankfully the results came back with no cancer present, but the person doing the colonoscopy thought I should get the blood test, I don't go back to the hospital till the end of May, so had the blood test done as advised, not sure what it means...
  14. I was diagnosed with Celiac about 3 years ago. I was told by the Dr. that I had probably had it for years. I remembered back when I was going thru my divorce, I got very ill. Nothing stayed in my gut long enough to be be absorbed. I lost probably 20 lbs or more in a rather short time. Since then, I have learned that stressful cituations in your life...
  15. I did not replace my mixers or bread machine, just thoroughly cleaned them. But if anyone is still having symptoms, you need to look at these again.
  16. I started to react like to ham last summer. Twice it happened so I haven't been eating ham only the lunchmeat from Hormel called Naturals. No nitrates. I'm not sure because last week I tried some bacon and I was OK with it. Not really sure why the ham got me. I don't always know why, I just avoid it if I react more than once. Could gluten have...
  17. It's all the cross contamination talk that terrifies me, i'm always scared I got cross contaminated even if I don't have reactions, I just always feel scared that a crumb found its way into my food, or something. its the FEAR that is my number 1 problem. It is very frightening at first. But every time you go out and Don't have a problem, relive that...
  18. There has been a debate on another web-site I read about the sweetener you described. No one there had tried it but reading about it, it claims to have removed all the gluten in the processing. Since you've eaten one, please let us know if you react as this sweetener is being used more and more in candy. To help get through a glutening, I usually...
  19. The way I understand it there is no mild or strong, you just have it like being pregnant or not. I'm not sure there is any distinction between the test numbers and the amount of damage to your system. I'm glad you're getting a dx. That should answer a lot of questions for you.
  20. Personally, I think I would just eat before I went to their house and be done with it. Isn't it weird that we'll treat our family worse than we would a co-worker or a friend?
  21. We also replaced our egg skillet but nothing else. A good wash seems to work OK for me. With pasta I use the same pan but cook mine first and it gets washed by hand. All that is good but I'm not sick. If you still have ongoing symptoms, then you need to take a closer look at everything including cookware.
  22. I am one of the obese ones. When I told my dr I had celiac disease, selfdx'd, his eyes bugged out while he looked me up and down. He totally didn't believe me. I couldn't test at the time and I won't now. He's accepting it a little more now but he still doubts. Like many GP's, he really has a limited knowledge of the disease and no clue about food intolerances...
  23. What are some of the better supplements that we celiacs can take to get a decent ratio calcium/vitamin D/magnesium? I know I ask for a lot, I just hope I can find it all in one pill, as I am tired of taking so many supplements and pills already. I have just started the added magnesium thing so I am not yet taking a combo. My info came from the book...
  24. I don't know anything about vegetarian eating but I'm on Atkin's and their cookbooks have quite a few of the recipes.
