ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance, Maybe Celiac D?
ang1e0251 replied to Nadia2009's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know about that kind of relief. It feels wonderful! Frankly, I wouldn't get tested because I wouldn't go back on gluten. It does sound like you want to be tested. Just know that many dr's want you on gluten for 3 months before testing. a day or two before your appointment won't cut it. So just keep that in mind while you decide. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance, Maybe Celiac D?
ang1e0251 replied to Nadia2009's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's hard to say. It could really be either one. If you want to be tested, you must continue to eat gluten. It's harder to stop and then have to start again. If your tests are negative, you could still be gluten intolerant and the gluten-free diet will still give you relief. You can still eat your favorite foods, you just must make them from gluten... -
ARCHIVED Joint Pain And Celiac Disease
ang1e0251 replied to tmhossain's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
magnesium, and a separate sublingual methylcobalamin (active form of B12), at least 3mg per day. The last two helped me quite a lot. The difference was seemingly miraculous, and I continue to take them, and others Just wanted to say thank you. Your mention lately of the improvement with Magnesium sparked me to read a book on the subject. I have now... -
ARCHIVED Still Getting Glutened Why?
ang1e0251 replied to angelinpeaches's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Is it possible to get glutened from sharing pots, pans, utensils and dishes used for non-gluten meals even if they been washed thoroughly? Normally, no. But if your container isn't stainless steel and maybe has a scratched surface like teflon, it is possible for it to hold gluten residue. It would be better for you not to eat from dishes like that... -
ARCHIVED Fixed: Additional Sensitivities Or Hidden Gluten
ang1e0251 replied to krystal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The issue could be with the chips products that they are cc'd in the mfg. I ate Lays potato chips fine for awhile but then got ahold of a package that did not sit well. Others here have reported that Lays regular chips are made in a shared facility. When you read a label that shows a food is OK but you react, it could be made in a shared facility. You... -
ARCHIVED What Happens Why You Get Glutened?
ang1e0251 replied to wendstress's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Also the natural flavors are sometimes made with barley malt. You have to call the company for that one. Your instincts are probably right about the wine. It is a headache trigger for some. -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
ang1e0251 replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
I don't think she is arguing so much about where the cc happened, she's only stating that she and her daughter reacted and testing showed gluten present. You're comments imply that she is not making rational decisions. That is not logical to me. The cause and effect are clear. Your comment sounds like the kinds of comments I get from my dr. Let's not... -
ARCHIVED Can't Stop Binging On Gluten!
ang1e0251 replied to Rachel Keating's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It is hard to get started but you can do it, Rachel. We'll back you. I'm starting Atkin's diet today. It was really scarey to me to give up sugar but I know I need to. It isn't as hard as I thought. I've been sweetening my tea with stevia and that helps. You are on the right track by talking to us. Keep posting and we'll keep posting back. You... -
I hope you get some answers to your ongoing distress. But I still stress the food journal with symptoms. I have had worsening pain that I have finally traced to drinking Earl Gray tea. I was even losing muscle tone in my shoulder because the pain didn't allow me to use it properly. Now I found other stories on the net that report the same problem. ...

ARCHIVED Celiac/eating Disorder/anxiety
ang1e0251 replied to kakattack's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You might not be able to tolerate the gluten-free breads yet, I know they do a number on me. I think you should back off to a basic diet of meats, vegetables and nuts ( if there are any you can tolerate). Only eat food you prepare yourself, very simply. No dairy, no alternative grains to start with. After you start to feel better, you can add new foods... -
ARCHIVED Will Dh Clear Up Gluten Free?
ang1e0251 replied to Pattymom's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I had both the rashes described and they cleared up completely on the gluten-free diet. First the itching backed off little by little. The rash itself took a couple of months to finish. The discoloration under the skin was the last to go. Now I only have an outbreak if I'm glutened by something I'm consuming every day. Very rarely. -
ARCHIVED Dh Sensitivity Increasing?
ang1e0251 replied to J in Cincy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
My DH only flares now when exposed to gluten repeatedly. I made chocolate cake recently & ate it frequently over the weekend and bingo! DH! My Dutch chocolate was cc'd. Had to get rid of it and I'll have to buy new. If you have gluten still in the house you could be cc'ing yourself or ingredients like spices that you eat daily or repeatedly when... -
ARCHIVED Today Is My 1 Year Anniversary :)
ang1e0251 replied to kimis's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You're my hero...heroine..both! One year is a huge milestone. Think of your mindset a year ago and how you handle it all now. Changing your whole life while caring for a family is no easy task but you did it and did it well. Someday when someone you know will face a big challenge, they're going to look to you and say, if she can do it, maybe I can too... -

ARCHIVED **blink - Blink** Oooooh Kay!
ang1e0251 replied to quietmorning01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry to complicate things but there is another possibility; gluten intolerance. There is no test you can take to prove it. All the celiac disease tests will show negative but you still get all the symptoms. Some even think it's a precursor to celiac disease. If you have a strong dietary response to the gluten-free diet, I would never give that... -
ARCHIVED What If I Dont Get The Diagnosis?...
ang1e0251 replied to HelpinOhio's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are three seperate problems with gluten: celiac disease, gluten intolerance or wheat allergy. There is no way to test for gluten intolerance. For that, your body has to tell you what it needs. If your tests come back negative, that's disapointing but not the end of the world. The remedy for gluten intolerance is the same for celiac disease; the... -
ARCHIVED Help - Have Awful Migraine
ang1e0251 replied to samsaracat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's a pressure headache, light-, odor-, sound-sensitivity. BAD nausea. Possible triggers: ate some fudge, low blood sugar, stressful workday, licked a big envelope. I'm gluten and casein intolerant. Have taken 2 Advil, drank some coffee - took a quick nap and ate some rice. What kind of fudge? I come from a candy making family and regular fudge... -

ARCHIVED How Celiac Disease Has Changed My Life
ang1e0251 replied to cgilsing's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel the same. At a point in my life when I could have been stagnant, I started a new business then celiac disease found me. As a result I'm healthier than I have been in 30 years. I finally have answers and look forward to a bright future. Feeling better was huge to me. I really felt I was missing out on life and was aging before my time. I... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Like I Am Taking Crazy Pills
ang1e0251 replied to KristinNicole's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would suggest to you to ask for a copy of your test results every time a test is performed on you. Keep your own file. It can be very enlightening to see your own test results. What sometimes is dismissed as normal range, can be a very low normal. For you that could mean symptoms occur at that level. I recently asked for a copy of my DD's test... -
ARCHIVED My Story (a Little Long) And A Question.
ang1e0251 replied to rueyn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I could not test at the time I went gluten-free and I refuse to take a gluten challenge. I would just be too sick. You know I am at peace with it. The dietary response was just too obvious too ignore in addition to clearing up the rashes I had. I'm not sure why you need "proof". Seems to me your body is giving you the proof. You know what you have... -
ARCHIVED Son Just Diagnosed With Celiac Disease
ang1e0251 replied to Mommy2Many's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I no longer have a 12 year old but I remember it well. My favorite thing with my husband when we were first married was to trick him into eating foods he said he didn't like and wouldn't eat. Carrots was one. I cooked and pureed them then made a stew with them. He loved it and had to admit carrots were OK. I've done it to him so-o-o-o many times! ... -
ARCHIVED Suggestions For Elderly Mom
ang1e0251 replied to Tasha2004's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would have her vitamin levels checked too. I'm reading a book on magnesium and finding I'm low. The edema could be that but I also have edema when I'm glutened. -
ARCHIVED For Those Who Were Diagnosed After Having A Baby..
ang1e0251 replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Looking back, I think the real problems started after my second pregnancy. But both of mine were pretty normal. I had other health issues before but they weren't digestive. Not to say they couldn't have been related but they sure weren't related by me or anyone else. I self diagnosed last year and that baby turned 22 YO yesterday. -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....

-- Haagen Dazs raspberry sorbet (ingredients: water, raspberry puree, sugar, corn syrup, fruit pectin, lemon juice concentrate, may contain trace amounts of milk protein). I had a medium-grade CC reaction to this (and no, I don't react to corn or to dairy). I tested it and it was positive -- probably right around 20 ppm. I've suspected reactions to Haagen...
