ARCHIVED Pet Peeve Regarding The Slaying Of The English Language.
wildwood replied to Imanistj's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
When people say I "seen" it instead of I "saw" it. Or when they say I "could" care less instead of I "could'nt" care less. -
ARCHIVED Asking A Chain Supermarket To Carry A Product.
wildwood replied to Imanistj's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Can you please post if they do decide to carry it? -
I know it is too late for you today, but my daughter also has had good experiences at the Pizzaria Uno in Clay. The manager always comes to check and make sure everything is as it should be. He is very nice and seems proud of their gluten free pizza. She prefers the pizza I make at home, but she does enjoy the opportunity to order one out if she pleases...

My daughter has been to both the Clay and Erie Blvd locations. She had a good experience at the Clay location, but not so much at Erie Blvd. I was with her when she went to Erie Blvd. The waitress was new and luckily when the food came out my daughter noticed it looked different than the last time she ordered at Clay location. My daughter pointed this...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Phyllo Dough
wildwood replied to wildwood's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I kind of knew it would be time consuming based on the recipes I have. I have been "psyching" myself up for the challenge for a couple of months now I will definitely search YouTube because I think it will be helpful for me to see someone actually rolling the dough out. I don't have any Jules flour and am not sure where to get it, but I will keep it... -
I have found a couple of recipes for gluten-free phyllo dough and was wondering if anyone else has tried to make it. If so, what were your results and do you have any helpful hints and/or the recipe that worked for you? I want to try making it this weekend as a dry run for our Christmas Eve hors d'oeuvres night. My daughter really misses spanokopita...

ARCHIVED How To Eat gluten-free At A Japanese Restaurant?
wildwood replied to Kelynn's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The restaurant where I live is not called Hibachi, but it is the same type of restaurant. When we went there they were able to accomodate my daughter. They made her food in the back free of soy sauce, etc. She got to watch everyone else's food prepared and enjoy the expertise of the chef. It was quite entertaining:) They brought her her plate already... -
ARCHIVED Rashed Related To Gluten
wildwood replied to LisaaaNoel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter has had problems with rashes for years. One was biopsied after her celiac dx, but it came back negative. Now that she is gluten free, she does not have as many problems with the rashes. She did have a problem with cc this past summer and sure enough she got a rash (she had been almost a year gluten free at this point). She has determined that... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Food Is Sooooooo Expensive!
wildwood replied to Chattyaholic's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You may want to check out Angel Food Ministries. They have an allergen free box that usually contains chicken nuggets, chicken tenders, etc. that are gluten free. I have purchased this a couple of times and it is more economical. You can order online. You have to pick it up on a specific date and their website gives all the details and pickup locations... -
I respectfully disagree.

How do you explain those diagnosed celiacs like my daughter that have no villi damage? (she had two biopsies) If we went by villi damage and assumed because the negative biopsies meant gluten was not a problem she would still be suffering from chest pain, abdominal pain, constipation, rashes, and tingling in her limbs and the list goes on. She is 100% better...

ARCHIVED Biopsy Results Back, Vili Inflammation, No Celiac Evidence
wildwood replied to Coconutmilk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter had positive blood work and two negative endoscopies. She had gene test and has dq2. She went gluten free based on blood work and has been diagnosed due to her overwhelmingly positive response to the diet. If I were you, I would follow the advice of the others and go gluten free for a month or so and see how you feel on the gluten free diet... -
ARCHIVED Beer Batter Onion Rings (gluten-free & Rice Free)
wildwood replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
For Christmas Eve we have hors d'oeuvres night. I made gluten-free battered onion rings several weeks beforehand. I coated them with the batter and placed them on a cookie sheet covered with plastic wrap. I froze them on the cookie sheet. This way they freeze as individual pieces. Once frozen, I put them in a container. I deep fried them up on Christmas... -
ARCHIVED Very Cheap Gluten Free Food!
wildwood replied to Chalula88's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have ordered the allergen free box from Angel Food Ministries several times over the last six months. Last month they started including pancake mix, etc. We have not tried the pancake mix and such yet. My daughter is in college and has an apartment this fall so this helped stock her freezer. She really enjoys the chicken tenders. She has had no... -
ARCHIVED Resources For Family Members To Understand X-contamination?
wildwood replied to StephanieM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have to admit I find it impossible to understand why they would begrudge you bringing you own food. How does that impose on them in any way? I agree with a previous poster. Just stick by your guns and eat your own food each and every time. No exceptions. Don't even explain it to them anymore. Eventually it will become the norm that you eat your own... -
I store mine in the freezer too.

This morning I was in a rush and forgot I would be getting home late. I knew I would not feel like cooking once I got home so I decided to experiment in the crock pot. I put in about a pound and half of lean ground beef, a finely chopped onion, mushrooms, and a jar of Bertoli Alfredo Sauce. I served it over rice and it was really yummy!!!

I never thought to use lime and I love artichoke hearts. I can't wait to try these combinations! I don't know why I never thought to use the water from the can. That is brilliant:) Thanks for the ideas I look forward to trying the variations.

I am sorry things have been so difficult for you. I think you are correct to realize you must adapt to a new way of thinking, but please don't just write off the past few years of your life. We all learn so much from difficult times and without realizing come out stronger and better equipped to face what lies ahead. The important thing may be to walk away...

I find tahini in the Middle Eastern foods section of my supermarket. In a pinch I have have used creamy peanut butter as a sub and it has worked nicely. Not exactly the same flavor, but a good alternative if there is no tahini available. Here is the recipe for hummus that I use: Hummus 1 16oz can garbanzo beans (chick peas), drained and rinsed well...

ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test, Negative Endoscopy?
wildwood replied to Rachnnnn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter had a negative endoscopy before her blood test results came back. Her blood test was postive and a second biopsy was done which also came back negative. Her provider diagnosed her with celiac based on the blood test. She has been gluten free ever since and feels better than she has in years. All of the vague symptoms she has experienced the... -
ARCHIVED Birthday Cake/ Betty Croker
wildwood replied to Kimmy913's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I could not find the Betty Crocker mixes at first either, but it was because I was looking in the gluten free/health food section of the store. All of the stores in my area actually stock them in the same area as the regular cake mixes. I have only tried the yellow cake mix once and it was good. Just be aware it only makes half of what a box of regular... -
ARCHIVED Complete Personality Change.
wildwood replied to talula2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do you have a local library? I was able to find several books including Dr. Green's my local library and the best thing is the library is free. I can tell how prevalent gluten intolerance is becoming because for some of the books I had to go on the waiting list, but I did get to check each of them out eventually. The library system for the county I live... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pie Crust

ARCHIVED Sigh.. Back In The Battle Again..
wildwood replied to mysecretcurse's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I read this, I remembered I have some Yerba Mate Dark Roast tea in the pantry. Out of curiosity I looked at the ingredients and it contains roasted barley.
