  1. You don't have to get rid of your cast iron pans. If you have a self cleaning cycle on your oven, you can put the pans in the oven while you run the self clean cycle. This will burn off any gluten. Then you just have to reseason them.
  2. Your GI appointment is pretty far off. Have you called their office to find out if they have a cancellation list you can be placed on?
  3. These are wonderful with tuna fish! They sell them in my area at Wegmans.
  4. We have a mixed household. I read here on the forum a while ago the recommendation to assign the color red to plastic items. Everyone in the house knows that the red colander, spatula's, bowls, etc. are not to be used for gluten foods. This has worked very well for us.
  5. May I have the recipe please?
  6. My daughter was a freshman last year. The cafeteria had good intentions, but my daughter got cc'd quite often. She ended up getting an apartment off campus this year. She misses dorm life, but is much happier with the control she has over her food. It really started to stress her towards the end of last year because she found she ate a salad with chicken...

    ARCHIVED New Format

Would there be a way to move the "Mark Board As Read" function to the top of the screen, perhaps in the same vicintity as the "View New Content" function?
  9. If you have a Wegmans near you, they have recently come out with a squash soup. It comes in a box and is clearly labeled gluten free. I used it as a base and made a delicious soup with it last week. I chopped and fried an onion in a pot, added the soup, cooked sweet potatoes cubed, a can of black beans-drained, a cup of frozen peas, and some cumin.
  10. My family and I stayed there this past May. We had good experiences at Wolfgang Puck's restaurant and Craftsteak. We went to Craftsteak our last night there. It is a little expensive, but in our opinion worth it. We enjoyed the Spring Tasting Menu. My daughter informed the waiter she was gluten free and he checked with the chef to confirm safe foods....

    ARCHIVED New Format

I am slowly figuring out the new format. I would also like to know how to mark all forums as read. Thanks!!!
  12. Another reason you may not find alot of people in the 65 and older age group posting (especially those that are in the 70-80 year old range), is that not as many people in this age group are computer "savvy" and they may not use computers.
  13. Do you have a self cleaning oven? If so, you can put the skillet in the oven during the clean cycle. When you take it out, clean off the ash and reseason it and the pan should be fine for you to use. It is so nice to have such a treasure from your grandmother
  14. DMarie-I will look for expandex the next time I shop. I have never looked for it so there is a chance that one of the stores near me stock it. I probably would not have noticed it If I cannot find it, I will order online.
  15. Yes, I use 8 x 4 pans. Good Luck!!!!
  16. Christmas Eve we have: crudites shrimp cocktail spanokopita (last year I made this with rice paper, this year I attempted gluten free phyllo dough. More like pastry, but still good. chicken wrapped in bacon. These are appetizer size. I cut boneless chicken breast into the size of a scallop and wrap with 1/2 a piece of bacon. I bake until the...
  17. I don't know if you have seen them, but Thai kitchen has little soup packages similar to ramen only with rice noodles. Not as inexpensive as ramen, but not too high priced. I have even found them at Big Lots if you have one nearby.
  18. I found that using two smaller loaf pans instead of a large one made a huge difference. They rise nicely and are evenly baked.
  19. DMarie, let us know how the danish turns out. It looks great! I will make up some "Jules Blend" when I get chance to try making phyllo dough again. I have not noticed expandex in the stores. Is it something that must be ordered online? The recipe posted from Better Batter looks good too. I will eventually try that one as well. It is my mission to have...
  20. Well I finally made this this morning. Thanks for recommending the youtube video Dmarie. It helped. I have to say that it did not turn out the way I dreamed it would. It was good just different. The problem I had was that the dough absorbed the butter so I did not get the seperate layers you get with phyllo dough. I even tried butter flavor cooking spray...
  21. I forgot to add that after dinner, I remove all the meat from the turkey and put the carcass in the crockpot with carrots celery, and a quartered onion, cover with water and cook on low over night. The next morning I strain everything out discarding the vegetables etc., put the stock on the stove, add fresh carrots, celery, onions. I cook those until tender...
  22. We will have six at our table this year. We will be eating: Roasted Turkey Stuffing cooked outside the bird (one regular, one gluten free) Giblet gravy (gluten free) mashed potatoes sweet potato casserole broccoli cranberry sauce gluten free cheddar biscuits (I make these often, I found the recipe here on the forum. I belive it was posted by celiac...
  23. I may try it today if I have time. Thanks for the recipe! I will be baking this one often
  24. I baked this yesterday and it is delicious. It has a sweet flavor. My daughter asked if I can bake it again and try adding some cinnamon and raisins. For the rising, I used the method from another recipe I found here on the forum. I preheated the oven to 200 and put the dough in for 90 minutes. It rose beautifully. It did overflow the bread pan I used...
