  1. Boy do I feel your pain. One of the side effects of Celiac for me was weight gain. It came on so quick. I have been gluten free since October. I got on the scale about an hour ago and I have lost 15 pounds since then. But what I have to do to lose that is incredibly hard. Don't take your calories down too low. Increase your exercise instead. I keep...
  2. Raw veggies are really hard on me. Steamed veggies calm my stomach. Try them that way. I hope you feel better
  3. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in October 2008. I have been feeling really well but the last 3-4 weeks I have been having weird things happening. Over the weekend my ankles swelled (really big) and I have never had that happen to me. I felt achy and fatigued all over and my blood pressure was 99/48. I went to the doctor on Tues and he had me have...
  4. I am 7 months gluten free and feel good but I can tell you the first 2 months were really tough. It was as if I was going through withdrawals. I ached where I had never ached before. I was so exhausted yet I couldn't sleep. Remember we have compromised digestive systems and you are healing. I promise it gets easier. Please Please Please stay on the...
  5. I used to take Buspar. You take it everyday. It takes a few weeks to work but it really works. It is not an antidepressant, but an antianxiety drug. It is very inexpensive to use. You will not feel drugged at all. Please talk to you doctor about this.
  6. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease on October 15,2008 after years of being sick. My TGG level at that time was 64. I had my bloodwork done last week and met with my GI today. My new level is 12 !!! It is in the normal range. He was very impressed by how well I have done in just 6 months. He hopes the level will be even lower in October when he checks...
  7. I am getting ready for my 6 month checkup with my GI. I got the bloodwork order in the mail but it doesn't say if I need to fast for the TTG IGG IGA test. Does anyone know?
  8. I see my GI every six months or more if I need him.
  9. Anything that could possibly touch your lips. Shampoo, for example, can touch your lips while rinsing your hair in the shower. Lotions can get on your hands. Then if you touch your lips you could be glutened. My GI said use ALL gluten free products. Good Luck
  10. My GI told me it will take 2 years for my gut to completely heal. Maybe thats your case too.
  11. Have you just been diagnosed? If so your digestive system has a long way to go to be healed. The gluten free pizza is probably what caused your problems. You need to stay away from the breads and doughs for a while. Some gluten free foods are harder for us to digest until we are healed. Good luck to you.
  12. I was actually diagnosed by bloodwork and endo in October 2008. My GI says it will take about 2 years for my small intestine to heal completely. So if you have celiac disease it will probably show up in the endo. But it probably wouldnt show up in bloodwork. I actually go back to my GI next month for bloodwork to make sure my numbers have gone down. ...
  13. There is so much you can eat. Meat, veggies, and fruits are fine. Just make sure any marinades used on the meat are gluten free. This is the forum for you. You will get alot of information here. I too love carbs. But the bottom line is I had to give up most of them to be healthy. I have not had a piece of bread since October. I never thought I could...
  14. I am just like wild fisher. If I let myself get famished I get sick. I get so bloated and then when I eat I get stomach cramps and D. Then I am sick for about 24 hours. It could also be that the chicken you had was injected with broth. Some companies do this to plump up the meat.
  15. Happy Anniversary. I was diagnosed on October 15, 2008. I consider that date my "new birthday". I felt really bad for about 12 years. Now within 4 months I feel 20 years younger. My energy level is incredible. I feel blessed that the condition I have been given can be controlled by diet. Thank you for your positive post.
  16. Have you tried cooked greens? I never ate these until I started meeting with a holistic nutritionist that also has celiac disease. Inow eat collard greens, turnip greens, kale, etc. Do grains bother you? They are very soothing for me. I actually have brown rice with raisins, natural maple syrup, and unsweetened almond milk for breakfast. It is delicious...
  17. My GI told me it is the easiest place for a celiac patient to go on vacation because they mainly use corn flour.
  18. The first 3-4 weeks of my recovery I would feel like that for no reason. My doctor said it was just my body healing. One day I would feel great and then the next I felt like I had been beaten. I don't know about the bbq sauce you used but Sweet Baby Rays is gluten free. Good luck to you. I am only 4 months into my healing and I feel 20 years younger...
  19. I went to a Celiac nutrition meeting at my GI's office last week and the group said they drink Redbridge. I dont drink alcohol but they said it is gluten free and the best tasting.
  20. Looking back I have had problems since I was little but just got used to my "nervous" stomach. I was actually diagnosed on October 15, 2008. I consider this day my "new" birthday. I was sick for 12 years. I am 49.
  21. I think you should make an appointment and go to you GI. He will know more about celiac disease than you GP. As soon as I was diagnosed my GI had me get a bone density test. He had me go to a dietician. My insurance wouldnt pay for one but it was well worth the money. I was diagnosed Oct.15, 2008. I consider that my "new birthday"as that is when I began...
  22. At first you need to stay away from the processed foods. Eat meat, veggies, and fruit. Let your gut heal for a while before you start introducing new things. I have been gluten free since Oct 2008. I am 49 years old but I feel as if I am 20. To be quite honest with you the processed foods arent good for anyone. Keep it simple. I eat lots of greens now...
  23. Mushroom said it perfectly.
  24. Yes I was diagnosed October 15, 2008. I consider it my "other birthday" as that is the beginning of a feel good life!! My bloodwork was positive. After doing the biopsy my GI said I had a severe case of Celiac. I did have some bloating but other than that all my symptoms were neurological. I am still on anti depressants because my doctor said it takes...
  25. It means he has the possibility of developing it. Now they will probably do more bloodwork and possibly a biopsy. If the tests come back negative then he doesnt have anything to worry about now. But since he has one of the genes he could get celiac at a later age. It is a good thing he knows this.
