  1. This was from 1991! How many new ways to hide it have they come up with now? MSG has plagued me for years and I swore it was in hot dogs even though I couldn't find it. I guess now I can. Seriously, does anyone know of updated ways to find hidden MSG?

I don't know much about DH. I do know that Primary Billiary Cirrosis is highly associated with Celiac. Open Original Shared Link You need to have your doc test your blood for Celiac, especially since you think you have DH. I hope the Cirrosis is progressing slowly for you. Serologic Tests EMA (Immunoglobulin A anti-endomysium antibodies) AGA (IgA anti...
  3. Liz, I'm sorry Celiac and the sometimes overwhelming demands of life are weighing you down. I went through the birth control pill finding game for years. I finally gave up. If your periods are more painful than a ibuprofin can take care of, you should look into getting a diagnosis of endometriosis. It is one of those diseases that behaves as an autoimmune...
  4. thank you for your responses. I'm going to call this week one day after lunch rush and nicely let him know what happened. If he is responsive, then I''ll hope to have the conversation about what a chef needs to hear from me so I can be better at communicating my needs. I will also try to help him learn how to cook gluten-free. I just can't do that call until...
  5. Who is they? I know you, but the doctors too? Have they diagnosed him? Did they do a total IgA? Look at the interpreting test results section of the main Celiac.com page. It explains that one more. Does your family already have a protective services social worker working with you? This is far more than you should have to deal with. Your brother as well...
  6. Add me to the tingles list. It started off and on in my toes and pinkies. Then as it got more constant, it spread up my feet, fingers, palms, elbows, and the backs of my knees. My tongue tip also went through spurts of numbness. I'm only 10 weeks gluten-free and waiting for symptoms to subside. It has gotten a little better. I had the burning from my tush...
  7. I still had my favorite old bottle sitting in the shower, and I checked it today. It does not have Sodium Laurel/th Sulfate in it. I've heard people complain about SLS. I'm guessing it is the culprit. I wonder if the itchies on my scalp are from SLS too. I'll have to do some experimenting on the weekend when my hair can look crazy if my new SLS free body...
  8. I want to amend what I said above. I missed the part where you said you had been together 2 years. I thought you might have been in the first weeks of dating. If this guy isn't inviting you for holiday get togethers, it is NOT about food issues. It's not about family issues either. It is about him issues or couple issues. I would look very seriously at this...
  9. I met a wonderful gluten-free/CF woman a week ago. I think she has adopted me. I just left her house and she gave me a big box of baking ingredients and 2 Purely decedant ice creams. I'm munching on the cookie dough right now. Mmmmm. The best non-cow ice cream I've had. It might even beat some cheap cow ice creams. The texture and flavor are the best. Allergen...
  10. They didn't have a gluten-free menu, but they did have a gluten-free accomodations statement. I also called the Chef 24 hours in advance and spoke personally with him. I went in at an off hour too. Grrrr. I hate Celiac today.
  11. I thought I did everything right yesterday when I went out to eat. Nope. I'm glutened again. I'm not mad at the chef, but I am mad at the world. Do you contact the restaraunt and work with the chef to figure out how the gluten got in the dish? It would educate both of us about what the other needs in order to get the dish correct. Do you let the restaraunt...
  12. Payton's mom, I'm not from Bangor, so I can't help, but I've seen similar posts in the "Meeting Room" forum. You might try searching there or posting in that forum as well. Good luck. SGWHISKERS
  13. I'm making my own mini turkey and stuffing for Thanksgiving. I'll put it in a disposable pan in her oven with my utensils and a sealed big tupperware to keep them in during the cooking process. I would make the offer of preparing your own food in advance or at the family's house. If boyfriend and mother are not thrilled that the problem is solved, then I...
  14. Sorry for the choppy sentence structure. I got glutened somewhere else. Lucky's is a yummy, yummy steakhouse. My parents invited me out on short notice. I called Lucky's at 5:00 on a Saturday and spoke with the manager about a gluten-free meal at 5:30. She said it would be OK, and to have the server speak with her. The place was packed, as usual. My server...
  15. Glutened: I called a day in advance. Spoke with Chef Zack. We agreed on pan fried chicken with salt and pepper and a baked potato. I offered to come in after the lunch rush and we agreed on 2-3:00. Only 2-3 occupied tables in the restaraunt when we arrived. I made my waitress write down my needs, and told her the chef was aware I was coming. The menu even...
  16. Mom's glutteny stuffing recipe calls for lots of peeled chopped apples and diced onions sauteed in butter. (She does this the night before to get it out of the way). Then the day of, she mixes 1-2 sticks butter and lots of chicken stock over the pre seasoned bagged bread crubes (pepperidge farms). She adds the apple/onion mix and tosses with salt/pepper/extra...
  17. I don't have the answer to your first two questions. In regards to the third, I've found that I get a neurological response 10-30 minutes later. It increases for 24 hours and continues for at least 3-4 days. After the first 24 hours, I get some digestive changes that continue for the same time. My reaction has always been more neurological than digestive...
  18. Have you talked to your doctor about the chest pain? While considering Celiac, I would also want to make sure the doctor was certain the chest pain wasn't related to heart problems. That being said, I had mild, but sharp, left sided chest stabs a few days a month when I inhaled a little deeper than normal. It didn't FEEL like my heart or my ribs. It felt...
  19. I'm always cold, but it has gotten a little better since going gluten-free 9 weeks ago. At about week 3-4, I noticed I wasn't always feeling chilled to the bone. My fingernails also started getting a bit pinker. They were always pale and/or a bit purpley. I'm finding that if I dress warmly for the weather, I'm quite comfortable. In the 3.5 years before getting...
  20. Thank you ladies. I will add glycerin and Johnson's to my gluten-free shopping list. Actually, I like liquids, so both of these will be perfect to try. They should be easy to find too. SGWHISKERS
  21. I've been anxiously awaiting your results. I'm sad to see they did not pass your testing. While I agree they are far too expensive for regular use, a reliable home product would be nice to have available if I felt I really needed to test something. Maybe on a vacation. (Like I ever take those). I don't know if the price would ever go down cheap enough to...
  22. I don't have DH, but I figure you all are the experts at gluten-free soaps/lotions. I've always used a very gentle soap for personal areas. Shower gels or shampoos watered down are too irritating. I've given up the one I like because it has oat. Does anyone have a recommendation of something that is soothing, gluten-free, and under $15? I like liquids,...
  23. One of our body's natural means of fighting infections is to raise the body temperature to one that is less hospitable to the germs. That fever just makes us feel crappy. If you are able to sleep and stay hydrated, your body may be able to fight off the infection sooner. If you need to go to work and function as a normal human, you may want to take cold medicine...
  24. bjn, I hope you are recovering well after your EGD today. I remember feeling a little funky for a day or two. Even if the biopsy does not show anything, continue to do some research on this forum and others. Most would agree that Celiacs need to avoid gluten even if there is no villi damage yet. (YET being the key). I've only been here 9 weeks, but these...
  25. I agree that you should review your possible cross contamination and other sources of possible gluten. You may also ask your doctor to test your blood for food allergies. I find that my constant canker sores are present with either dairy or gluten. I was tested several years ago for food allergies, and dairy and eggs were on my list. I hope you feel better...
