ARCHIVED Long Road Trips With Celiac
SGWhiskers replied to kaiess's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
On my first long road trip after diagnosis, I planned one stop at Wendy's. When we stopped, the place was packed and I decided it was unsafe to eat there that night. I relied on my packed goodies and gas stations to feed me. Milk, and 100% uice at the gas station will be gluten-free. They usually sell nuts and sunflower seeds. Check if Planters are safe.... -
ARCHIVED I Cry At The Drop Of A Hat
SGWhiskers replied to *lee-lee*'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You sound just like me at various points in my life. I tried a dozen different antidepressants before I found the right one for me. Cymbalta has made as much a difference in my mood and pain levels as going gluten free did. Try all the healthy things that everyone here suggests, but dont rule out antidepressants. Sometimes they are what is needed to help... -
ARCHIVED I've Located One Of My Issues!
SGWhiskers replied to Gfresh404's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm just the opposite. If I don't drink a cup of broth every day or two, I get achy and lethargic and light headed. I think my blood pressure drops. It has been low since I got really sick with Celiac. It also drops when I get glutened. So for me, salt is like a tonic. I'm eating so little processed food that my diet has very little salt except dinner and... -
Why did I give up coffee? I'm not a big coffee drinker. It was summertime. I was consuming 2 excedrine/day to deal with the pain. (excedrine has caffine). I was worried my coffee pot was contaminated. I like tea. Basically, with all the things to figure out with going gluten-free, coffee was low on my priority list. Now I'm craving a sweet cup of...

I'm 6 months gluten free, and in the expanding my diet phase. I'd like to add back a cup of coffee here and there. I know unflavored coffee is gluten free, and flavored might have gluten. So, here are my questions: 1) Can I use the same coffee pot as the ladies at work? 2) My current coffee pot has had gluten exposure in the form of cross contamination...

Missed/late Periods After Going Gluten Free?
SGWhiskers replied to nw0528's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Don't pull out the pregnancy tests yet. When the body is stressed, it can sometimes delay ovulation which will, in turn, delay a period. I'm guessing your body experienced the same kind of stress mine did after going gluten-free and is just coping with the changes. I suspect it will right itself with a period in a week or two and then everything will get... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Of Being Glutened
SGWhiskers replied to Defkid's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm glad you posted. I've read posts saying that people's reactions get stronger for the first months/years after diagnosis, then may almost dissappear when they have been gluten-free for a long time. My pattern seems to be different, more like yours. I've been gluten-free for almost six months after positive blood tests and Marsh 3c endoscopy results. I... -
ARCHIVED 5 1/2 Months
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
5 1/2 months ago ago, when I was newly diagnosed, I scoured this forum daily trying to learn as much as I could. I especially appreciated the stories of people sharing their recovery. I thought I would give back what I have experienced since my diagnosis for those newly diagnosed. The last week of August 2008, I had my endoscopy. I was certain going in... -
Hypnogogic hallucinations. I have something somewhat similar that only occurs once or twice a month now that I'm gluten free. It was daily in the worst parts of my prediagnosis. Fortunately, my images are not scary. Unfortunately, they are not hunky men either. Just altered images of my bedroom and weird sensations for hours on end. Pre Celiac diagnosis...

ARCHIVED Reactions To Cooking Gluten
SGWhiskers replied to bjn555's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm with you Celiac Mom. I seem to get nausia and a headache intermittently from hot gluten, broken crackers/cookies, and the flour isle at the grocery store. I'm recovering from a glutening from picking up a garbage bag with birdseed in it. Either that or the cookie the guy behind me broke open. I felt weird and looked behind me to see him picking at a big... -
ARCHIVED Bavarian Inn - Frankenmuth Michigan
SGWhiskers replied to kbabe1968's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Just wanted to share my POSITIVE experience at BAVARIAN INN with anyone headed to Frankenmuth. We went to the Snow Festival in January this year and dispite 15 degree temps, a 2 year old, and my Celiac it was a pleasant experience all around. There is a shop in the main part of town that advertizes gluten free on the outside of the building. We didn't go... -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Cold Medicine
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I hope you all can help. I'm catching my first cold since my Celiac diagnosis. What day-time and night-time meds are gluten-free? I used to tough it out, but celiac disease has made me fed up with feeling sick. I like tablets more than the fizzes and liquids. Maybe since going gluten-free, my body will fight this off before I get truly sick. I'll think... -
ARCHIVED Developing New Allergies
SGWhiskers replied to SandyStPeteFL's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm with you on the increasing allergies. 4 years ago, I got sick with what I think was the beginning of the Celiac. Blood tests at that time showed milk and egg and environmental allergies. None of which I ever thought I had. Fast forward to 4 months ago and my positive endoscopy. Now, I find I'm reacting to bananas, shea butter, and latex. There is at least... -
ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!
SGWhiskers replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I got my sample a few weeks ago and am in love! I have super sensitive skin, and have had no problems yet. (except I stuck the brush in my eyeball by accident. My eye didn't get irritated though). The samples were enough to get me started and I'll be ordering the full size as soon as I'm in love with the colors on their fee give aways. I missed the Thanksgiving... -
ARCHIVED Can You Recommend Some Safe Canned Products?
SGWhiskers replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh, so much better than I was even dreaming. Keep em coming. I would almost seem normal to my coworkers my first week on the job if I opened up a can of chicken and rice soup and microwaved it. Well, normal except for the fact that I'll be asking for powder free gloves and treating the patient's crackers like a nuclear bomb. -
ARCHIVED Vitamin And Antibody Panel From 3 Month Check Up
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just got my 3 month panel and vitamin testing results back. We did 3 months because I was still feeling so badly. I know some antibodies drop quickly, and some slowly. Some spike quickly, and some slowly. I realize that the grand sum of this test was: Yes, I'm still getting gluten. Yes, I'm getting better. And Yes, these vitamins are OK now. What I... -
ARCHIVED Can You Recommend Some Safe Canned Products?
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm starting my new job Monday and am preparing a pantry so I'm never starved. I need some recommendations of canned foods (soups would be wonderful) that are gluten-free, Casein Free, Egg free and MSG Free. I've got a whole list of mug meals I can make, but it would be nice to have some I can buy right off the shelf. I'm longing for the old days of only... -
ARCHIVED Walk Me Through Making House gluten-free
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got another mystery glutening today. CC seems to be the likely suspect. Hubby is feeling bad for me and agreed to a 2 week trial of a gluten-free kitchcen. (I can't make it past 2 weeks without glutening myself right now). I plan to extend that 2 weeks to at least 3 months. I know how to get rid of the remaining gluten foods, but how do I degluten the house... -
ARCHIVED Industrial Uses Of Wheat
SGWhiskers replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Open Original Shared Link I'll try to calm myself down. The plastic silverware, cups, and containers is freaking me out a bit. OK, it is all freaking me out. I'm glad plastics is going greener, just want to be safe in the process. SGWhiskers -
ARCHIVED Industrial Uses Of Wheat
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was looking at past articles searching for something else, and came across this web link. Open Original Shared Link It has a list from the Kansas Wheat commission about industrial uses for wheat. There were a lot of things on there that surprised me and made me worried about every day CC exposure. I know I won't eat any of these things, but I sure will... -
I'm headed to visit my inlaws for Christmas. Is anyone aware of a decent grocery for gluten-free items in the area? How about a very safe restaraunt. (I'm still a beginner). They live in the southern section of Tellico Village. It is about 15 minutes from the Marina. Is the marina a safe place to eat? Thank you for any info you can give.

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Businesses
SGWhiskers replied to little-c's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
1 stop gluten free and allergy friendly hub. In my dream world: Inexpensive restaraunt/cafe type eatery with a drive through window for coffee and hand held car foods. Then it would have the other half of the establishment as a gluten free, allergy friendly grocery/bookstore. This would all be on the corner of a major intersection instead of another gas... -
ARCHIVED Have I Been Glutened? Or Not?
SGWhiskers replied to nasalady's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'll add that my experience was that as the worst of the neurologic symptoms started to fade away, some of my other aches and pains became more noticeable. They were not any worse than before, but rather as the #1,2,3,4&5 worst symptoms left, #6 was moved to the front of my attention. Since being gluten-free, I've had a couple of small headaches that... -
ARCHIVED Is This Normal?
SGWhiskers replied to cressy75's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
At 3 weeks, I thought I should be feeling better as well. Everyone said be patient and recheck your potential for gluten exposure. Well, they were right on both counts. I thought I was gluten free enough. I've since changed 100% of my personal hygine items (makeup included) and 95% of my household cleaning items. The kitchen has gotten a 75% scrub down. My...
