ARCHIVED What I Predicted Is Happening
SGWhiskers replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm not sure what advice to give about the work situation, but for the girl concerns: pack a picnic go boating/fishing/canoeing Invite her to a BBQ go for a bike ride go ice skating How about a double date meeting at a someone's house for dinner A ball game A ballet A summer in the park concert a fund raising walk event meet at a dog park hike... -
Ask the doctor to prescribe another SSI and start ASAP. That will take some of the edge off the zapping and other withdrawl symptoms. I won't go into the details, but 4 years ago, this was a combination that helped ease things a bit. Lexapro was the SSI I was given (I had taken it with limited success in the past). Also, during the time delay between the...

I got home late from work to find a flat crusty thing in my baking pan. Hubby's first words were "Egg replacer is NOT Egg replacer!" Apparently he tried to make a puff pancake that calls for 4 eggs with egg replacer. How sweet he was to cook. I'm allergic/celiac to everything in the dish, and it was made of 100% replacement items. What a funny disaster. I...

ARCHIVED How Long Did It Take For Your Blood Levels To Return To "normal"
SGWhiskers replied to pupok's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I got retested at 3 and 9 months. At 3 months, most of my levels were normal or significantly decreased. At 9 months all but one were normal with the one that was not normal about 60% of what it was at diagnosis. I think I'm pretty sensitive and was/am getting cc from somewhere every few weeks or so. I've kept print outs of all my labs of any kind through... -
I'm attending a fancy schmancy wedding at the end of the month on a yaht. The event will be catered. I have quit eating out because of too many cc issues. If I want to be social, I bring a lunch box and order a drink. I'm usually with friends or family that are prepared for the lunch box. Also, I've discovered, I'm sensitive enough that I can't go to the...

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Pet Food -- Really Necessary?
SGWhiskers replied to OliveBranch's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'll throw in one more voice. Kitty was put on the Catkins Diet a little while before I was diagnosed. My pudgy fuzzy ball lost 3 lbs in a year, got spring back in his step, and started playing more. His food is Blue buffalo. They don't have any major wheat/rye barley/oat ingredients, but I wouldn't put it in my mouth (even though it is human grade). They... -
Barium For Ct Scan.....is It Gluten Free?
SGWhiskers replied to kimis's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I use a barium contrast at work for my job. The one I use is gluten free, but there are some that are not. What is the brand....Vari-Bar or Veri-Bar. I'll have to check monday. Call the CT place, and ask for the brand, product, date, and phone number. If the product isn't gluten free, you can ask them to order it. 2 of Vari-Bar's products have gluten... -
ARCHIVED Family Dinners & Bread Baskets
SGWhiskers replied to devo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I say no thank you when the bread is passed to me, then while the passer figures out what to do next, I grab my plate and pull it back away from the path. Unless it is grandpa, the passer gets the idea, and passes it around my placesetting. -
ARCHIVED Enjoy Life Soft And Chewy Snack Bars
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was so excited to find these at Kroger yesterday. I opened the caramel appel in the car. Not only did it look like a dog biscuit, it tasted like cardboard. Tonight, I gave the cocoa loco a try. Chocolate cardboard. Now, the aftertaste is good and I'm craving another one dispite the flavorless cardboard texture. I'm also thinking of ways to use them in another... -
Thank you for all the suggestions. I'll be keeping an eye on all of those items. I'm not sure where to start first, but today, the headache is taking a vacation, so I will be paying close attention when it starts up again. I was PMSing and feel my worst the week before and after my period, so that is on my suspicion list. I started my B12, D, and Magnesium...

ARCHIVED Crazy Glue/nail Glue
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a toenail that is splitting vertically and breaks and catches on everything. It has been happening for months, and I know it is from vitamin deficiencies. I'm hoping that more time on the gluten-free diet will resolve the vitamin problem causing this. In the meantime, I need to stop the nail from splitting. So I want to use nail glue or crazy glue... -
ARCHIVED Anyone In Metro-detroit?
SGWhiskers replied to daphniela's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thank you for that list of restaraunts and stores. I have relatives out that way, and eating out is always embarassing to bring my lunchbox. Now I want to go visit the relatives just so I can try the restaraunts and bakeries. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Go To Hair Salons?
SGWhiskers replied to Crayons574's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also go to an Aveda salon. Had been for years. I e-mailed the company and got their gluten free list. I keep my list in my purse, and ask the stylist to only use items off that list. I like the idea of asking them to rinse the tools before using. -
ARCHIVED Gatorade 2 A.k.a. G2
SGWhiskers replied to hermitgirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gatoraid only promotes their "thirst quenchers" with the big G on the side as gluten-free. They don't have an online statement about the other lines. -
ARCHIVED Excedrin Gluten Free?
SGWhiskers replied to amwayxsj's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called the company when I was diagnosed 9 months ago. Gluten free, so is Extra Strength Tylenol, and regular Motrin. I don't know about all the fancy kinds of these brands, but the main traditional one is gluten-free. Hipp Hipp hurray. Oh, and the Excedrine tears my tummy up. -

Your symptoms are consistent with not fully controlled GERD. They may also be from other causes, so talk to your doctor. -
ARCHIVED Anyone In Metro-detroit?
SGWhiskers replied to daphniela's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Brighton area. Hello there folks. I hear there is a great gluten-free bakery out in the Macomb twp area. Anyone ever try them out? -
Dispite strict adherance to the gluten-free diet, I'm still getting almost daily afternoon headaches. They are not quite migraines, but respond partially to imitrex if I need to take something to get through the day. The headaches are more pain, confusion, stiffness, and tension through my neck and shoulders and it lasts all through the evening. I keep telling...

Something else to consider as a known cause of nasal congestion, coughing, and difficulty sleeping laying down is reflux. (which we all know can be irritated by gluten).

ARCHIVED When Does The Constant Hunger Go Away?
SGWhiskers replied to River*'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
At 3 months, I went from eating constantly to being able to move to big meals with frequent snacks. At 5 months, I stopped taking 2 lunch boxes to work. At 7 months, I stopped needing a large breakfast. Now at 9 months, I have juice or protien shake in the AM, a large lunch, 2 afternoon snacks, and a late large dinner. I sip tea all day as well. ARCHIVED Noone Else To Talk To.
SGWhiskers replied to Roda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
From personal experience, antidepressants can take sex drive to zero. Wellbutrin often has the opposite affect. I'm sorry he had such horrible complications from the surgery. I hope that he finds some relief and things shift back towards some new version of normal. Also, I hate to exercise, but am more likely to do so if someone says lets walk tonight... -
ARCHIVED It Would Help To Have Some Happy (or Working On It) Anectdotes
SGWhiskers replied to mellowyellowmushroom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The adjustment has been harder on my husband than it has been on me (I'm the Celiac), but at 6 months gluten-free, he had that AHAH moment. He had been doing the grocery shopping for a few weeks because the bakery air was causing supersensitive me all sorts of problems. I was sick yet again, and went and put my head on his chest and whined "I hate Gluten... -
ARCHIVED Women, Can That Time Of The Month Set Off Your Celiac Disease?
SGWhiskers replied to Liveenjoylife's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
THANK YOU for asking this question. It feels good to know I'm not imagining this. I couldn't imagine how I was getting celiac symptoms with no good sources of gluten to blame it on. I'm also glad to hear that starting/stopping vitamins can irritate the digestive track. I'm going through a rough spell physically and thus mentally right now, and this could...
