ARCHIVED So What Beauty/Heath Products Are Safe?
SGWhiskers replied to Sunshine24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm certain I've read some MAC products are gluten free. In a pinch, Cover Girl clearly labels their gluten containing ingredients. I wear Everyday Minerals and all of their makeup is gluten free. Good luck. I'll be watching to see what is recommended for hair products. -
ARCHIVED My First Issue With The School
SGWhiskers replied to strawberrygm's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not going to weigh in on the hot/cold debate. I'm not even sure how I feel about it. I will share my thoughts as someone who comes from a teaching family and who worked special education k-8 for years. If you and the school agree 5 minutes early to microwave is the plan, then I strongly suggest your daughter have a 504 plan. She will have many teachers... -
Thank you for sharing your experiences. I would love to hear from others. I don't like the hours that the allergist has for receiving shots, so I may be looking for someone else if I want to persue shots. I've eaten eggs twice now. I'm still reserving judgement on my reaction. Yum yum though. I hope your son is doing well with the shots. They don't sound...

I'm CONFUSED! I need your collective knowledge and experiences. 5 years ago, tested positive through blood tests for tree, milk, and egg allergies 1.5 years ago, tested positive for celiac Today, skin scratch test says trees, weeds, cat allergies. The allergist says if I don't have hives, swelling, difficulty breathing, I don't have milk/egg allergies...

Hugs to you. It certainly stinks to skip a wonderful meal. Practice is the key to getting the good foods back in your life. I've been at this strictly about as long as you have been diagnosed. I'm getting to the point that I've got good substitutes for nearly everything I want. If you had eaten Christmas dinner with me this year, you would have had almost...

ARCHIVED Home Made Product
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I received a gift of 100% shea butter that the giver had whippwd with her mixer or blender and repackaged into cute little jars. My hands are dry and chapped and would love it if this was safe. What kind of risk do you think this poses? I keep the rest of my products strictly gluten-free. -
Thank you all for the suggestions. I only have one cup of caffinated tea most days, but I'll work on switching to all decaf. I was caffine free for many years in my teens and twenties and I didn't miss it. Regular and herbal teas are is exclusively Stash brand which is entirely gluten free (teas, not their cookies). I NEVER have artificial sweeteners. ...

I''ve been hitting a wall of fatigue and achiness at around 2:30 lately. I need some ideas to help get me through my day. I've got celiac and probably fibro. I have caffinated tea for breakfast and a big lunch with protien and veggies and off and on with grains/beans(fatigue is the same on or off carbs). I switch to herbal tea after 1 or 2 cups. I'm exhausted...

Muscle twitches here too at 16 months. Pre diagnosis, they were unpredictable and scary. Now, they have primarily moved to my extremities and/or areas I am working on with trigger point therapy. They tend to head to my face and abdomen more and be more persistant when I'm fatigued. Now, just because a lot of us have them does not mean it is something...

ARCHIVED Bob's gluten-free Oats
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So are Gluten free Oats (specifically Bob's) safe for ALL Celiacs? I thought I read something about some celiacs (25%???) reacting to gluten-free oats not because of CC, but because the oats themselves caused a gluten or gluten like reaction. I bought the Bob's for hubby, but now they are calling for me. -
ARCHIVED Confusing Sx Return! Again!
SGWhiskers replied to haleym's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Does Anyone With Celiac Disease Hear Their Pulse?
SGWhiskers replied to jackay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
add one more to that list. Low blood pressure here. I notice it more when I'm having a fibro flare or a migraine. It has become intermittant the longer I'n gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Living Harvest Hempmilk
SGWhiskers replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My local Kroger had it. They had it on sale on an endcap of the health food section. It expires at the end of January. Thanks for the heads up on Pacific Coast. I'll have to see if my Kroger carries it. -
ARCHIVED Living Harvest Hempmilk
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought a package of Living Harvest Hempmilk. right before I poured it, I double checked the ingredients and it said brown rice syrup. Isn't that on the gluten list? I went to the web site and it looks like it is from the "old" line of hemp milk not the new "TEMPT" line. It hasn't expired yet and I'm in a small town, so it makes sense it has been sitting... -
ARCHIVED First Week gluten-free Will Be On Family Vacation-help!
SGWhiskers replied to Shellyann's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I'm so glad you are going gluten free. I'm also Jealous of the ski vacation. It has been years for me. My though is to pack some dried/canned foods and have them shipped to the hotel ahead of time. I pack lunch nearly every time I go out to eat. No one has ever complained. I eat right along with everyone else. Stock up on gluten free produce at the grocery... -
ARCHIVED Scared Of Doing The Gluten Challenge!
SGWhiskers replied to Amelia01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh, I feel for you. I understand wanting to do what is best for your baby. Maybe have Mom save some of her cookies until the 26th so you can enjoy the holiday. but for the love of a child, I can't even imagine participating in a gluten challenge. So, since you did not have much in the way of symptoms before diagnosis, what are you hoping to learn through... -
ARCHIVED Got Nauseated On Bread Aisle At Walmart
SGWhiskers replied to Glamour's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Airborn gluten will give me a definate reaction. Physiological, not psychological. I get primarily neurologic reactions with I accidentally eat gluten. I'm not one for much in the way of digestive problems. With airborn gluten, I yawn and it increases in frequency and uncontroabillity the longer I'm in certain situations. Hubby now does the grocery shopping... -
ARCHIVED Do Reaction Types Change After gluten-free?
SGWhiskers posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So hubby treated me to a nice dinner out tonight at a restaraunt I've had good luck with before on the rare occassion of eating out. The chef cooked my dinner. I did cheat on the allergy to milk and had the cream sauce and butter. I can get away with a little milk occassionally with only a reaction that will remain unmentioned. I used to get the neuro, yawning... -
I had Thanksgiving at a distant in-law's house out of state. I brought 100% of my own food that I had prepared ahead of time and reheated in her oven/microwave. Everything went perfectly, but I had a case of foot-in-mouth a few times. Everyone thanked the hostess and complimented her food and thanked her for all her hard work. I could tell her the house...

I have a mixed kitchen. Hubby only has limited gluten items though for my sanity. my inlaws spend a few nights a month. Their favorite cereal is on the bottom shelf of the pantry. I make sure that when they come, I hide everything I'm worried about contaminating. MIL has early alzheimer's, so she sometimes puts dirty dishes away. I just have hubby put eveything...

ARCHIVED Pumpkin Pie Adapting
SGWhiskers replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
There is nothing dangerous in canned pumpkin. Don't worry. It is the eggs and evaporated milk that I can't have. (And the crust). I just had not figured out how to get around the egg and still have something dense and custardy. I'm going to give buckwheat a try if I can find it. If not, the other recipe is more complex than I have tried in the past so it... -
ARCHIVED Pumpkin Pie Adapting
SGWhiskers replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Good Grief! Karina's site is incredible. It makes me want to start baking again. I've practically given up on baking anything except mixes, for frustration with adapting. But she has done the gluten-free/CF/EF work for me. Thankyou for that link. It has gone right into my favorites. I wonder if I can find buckwheat flour this weekend. -
Pumpkin pie just isn't the same since going egg-free and casin-free. 3 years and 3 failed attempts. I need something that is yummy, sweet, a bit of crunch, and most importantly, that dense creamy consistency. I don't care if it is pie shaped, strudle shaped, or turkey shaped. It just needs to be better than what I've been trying the past few years. I...

ARCHIVED Barium For Gi Testing Gluten Free?
SGWhiskers replied to Diva1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The barium I use at work is gluten free. Not to say every brand is gluten free. I hope you are feeling better soon. I have a few patients who complain the barium gives them gi issues, but I only use a little barium for my tests. I think most tolerate it pretty well. -
ARCHIVED I'm Going Crazy.
SGWhiskers replied to Mysh's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hang in there. I tried my hardest for 3 months with minimal improvement and repeated glutenings. As time went on, I got better at avoiding the gluten and could go longer between cross contamination. I didn't stop glutening myself until I followed all the strictest recommendations of the experienced folks here. All the sources of cc, the household and hygine...
