  1. Swallowing problems are frequently caused by neurologic problems. You will get a wealth of information with the speech pathologist's barium swallow. A neurologist appt or consult might be appropriate as well. Good luck. SGWhiskers
  2. Chocolate Soy milk. Plain or Vanilla Soy milk in your old recipies. Soy ice cream with nuts. Even better is the new coconut ice cream. Nuts are a nice snack. Avacado is so creamy. With adjusting to soy milk, it helped to put a sweetener in the plain. I didn't care for the Vanilla. I LOVED the Chocolate. It also helped mentally to think of it as nut juice...
  3. Thank you for the information about your kitchens. We have a shared kitchen, and I would like to keep it that way if it is not going to affect my health. We don't have kids, so I only have to worry about what DH prepares for himself. He does not have baking mixes or flour, but he has bread, crackers, and cereal a few times a day. We have separate cooking...
  4. For those of you who have entirely gluten free kitchens/homes, I'm curious what factors helped you make that decision? Did your kitchen go gluten-free, right away, or did you have a mixed kitchen for a while? Did your kitchen go gluten-free because you were cross contaminated? Did children's access to gluten in a mixed kitchen affect your decision? Did...
  5. Congrats on the diagnosis and welcome. Even with having to change my diet, I'm so glad I have my diagnosis and am feeling better. You will too. An easy, yummy, seasonal meal is to take a squash or sweet potato and cut it in half. Add butter or oil, brown sugar, pecans, cinnamon, and a sprinkle of salt. With some hunting, you may be able to find soy nog...
  6. The airborne flour and baking mixes are a no, no for us. It is easy for us to inhale bits of flour and the reaction can sometimes be more or less severe. Then the flour dust falls to the countertops later in the day, and we can cc ourselves again. I've switched to using gluten-free mixes and hubby does not seem to mind a bit. We also have store bought goodies...
  7. I'm pooping in to comment on naughty pets "Perhaps Weezee belongs to a small and select international group of pets called 'The magical pets' Will (me cat) is a fully paid up member......... he can open my bedroom door with power of his wee cat mind....he just stares at the door and it opens!!!!!!!......thus giving him the chance to practice the dark...
  8. I can't tell you if you have Celiac or not, but I will agree with all of the above posters comments and add that my symptoms were exactly the same as yours from the statement about migraines down through the seeing stars comment. All have started to improve on my gluten-free diet for diagnosed Celiac. Whether it is Celiac or some other autoimmune disorder...
  9. I've battled with depression I "think" is not related to gluten, but time on my new gluten-free diet will tell. On my worst days, forcing myself to get some sunshine and physical activity helps me reflect back on the day on a better note than if I had not gotten outside. I think that is part of why winter is hard for me. If your depression is only going...
  10. Jason, I hope you had happy Thanksgiving whether you were out with friends or cozy at home. It is so hard to get out and do something when you are feeling down. I've struggled with depression for 15 years. I've been between functional and half heartedly considering suicide. I've been up and down all through that time. At any stage of the disease,...
  11. From my perspective, I see a man who knows the risks, but has not placed his health as a high priority. Your Celiac WILL get worse and worse. It is likely to lead to other illnesses as well. Your symptoms WILL start affecting your life. You know this. Take two steps back, and imagine the impact to your career if you were to develop neurologic symptoms...
  12. It feels so good, doesn't it? I made it through my first as well and I'm soooo happy. The best part was after the meal, I realized I didn't have that awful, icky feeling I used to think was from being full. My new gluten-free makeup stayed on the whole day without fading too. Hurray for gluten-free success!
  13. I don't have DH or much in the way of digestive issues. Mine is primarily neurologic. I have Marsh IIIc Celiac and the only things in the routine blood tests that was abnormal was slightly elevated liver enzymes and slightly low Vit D, which is common in Northerners. Years and years ago before I suspected anything might be wrong, I had low iron levels. I...
  14. My lower back/pelvic bone pain lessened considerably after a few weeks on 1800 Mg of Calcium and Vitamin D. I was taking Nature Made gluten-free Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc with D and their multivitamin. It was/is a bone ache kind of pain. I don't know if it was from the vitamins or coincidental. If I forget my vitamins for a few days, it seems to come back some...
  15. I feel even worse today. It is a full fledged glutening. I get the neuro symptoms, and clumsy. I hardly have digestive troubles. I'm so frustrated and worried about how to keep this up. OK, no more nail biting. I had done well until after a job interview and relapsed. Thanks for the info. SG Whiskers
  16. I'm in my 12th week gluten-free and still struggling. I've glutened myself 3 times for various reasons, and am in my longest stretch gluten-free at 16 days gluten-free now. Tonight I'm feeling pretty funky and wondering if I glutened myself or am having a food intolerance to something. Today's food: Stash Tea: confirmed gluten-free Almond Milk Hershey...
  17. My shopping list: (gluten-free-Egg F, Casin F) (I never liked bread, so I don't try to replace it) Fruits and Veggies: Lots & Lots & Lots Potatoes & Squash Onion Meats Tortilla Chips: We have a local brand that is gluten-free (for tacos) Popcorn (plain old fashioned kind) (Microwave it in a paper bag) Old ElPaso Taco Seasoning Old ElPaso...
  18. I don't remember where I read the article. It was a link from someone's post here. It had a lot of genetic information. One of the recommendations was that family members who test negative, can have their genes tested. If they test positive for the celiac genes, then they should have their blood retested every 3-5 years in order to catch the disease early...
  19. Before my doc discovered celiac, she ran blood tests for the big 8 allergens. I tested positive for milk and eggs. I had made it to 30 without noticing symptoms. I went off milk and eggs for 2 years and noticed only minor changes. Then I started eating them again with only very minor changes. A year later, my Celiac was finally diagnosed, and I eliminated...
  20. Thank you everyone! The interview went very well. I was pretty up front when it came time to review my resume, and told them I was off for resolved medical reasons, and moved on. Thanks for helping me get up my confidence
  21. I'm Celiac, and it takes a full week to feel decent again. I've not made it past 2 weeks without accidentally glutening myself yet, so I don't know if I have longer after effects. I hope you feel better in the next couple of days.
  22. OK, I wasn't going to bring up the cramps thing in the interview. I was trying to let you know how much time off work I'm likely to need in the future. Thanks for finding the disability statement. It is reassuring. There will be someone from HR there, so with that statement in mind, I don't think they will ask about my health. I like the ideas you have...
  23. I have a professional job interview tomorrow. I'm still not recovered from Celiac enough to do the job with as much energy as I would like. I think I have the energy to do the job sufficiently though. I have a history of taking time off for doctor's appts and migraines or cramps. I certainly have felt poorly through the past several years. I never went more...
  24. I would also agree with the previous posters and add that according to my lab results summary, a positive IGG "suggests the possibility fo gluten sensitive enteropathies." "Other gastrointestinal disorders may induce circulating gliadin antibodies." I did not come back positive on all of my bloodwork, but I did have more tests done and more were positive...
  25. Liz, I think you have a great plan. Sorry about the long winded message. My head was a bit loopy yesterday. I hope a few weeks/months of taking care of yourself has you feeling like a new woman. Best wishes with your re-recovery. SGWhiskers
