  1. From what I understand, everybody has candida in their system. The trick is to get it in balance with good bacteria. That doesn't mean you have to stay on the "candida diet" or even the SCD forever... you can add things with sugar, starch, mold (bleu cheese), etc... back in as your body heals. I think it's really important to figure out what works...
  2. For me... Fatigue + constipation + pain + not enough hormones = NO interest in sex Things are better since I've changed my diet, but it took a while.
  3. Some people need to gain weight because they were so malnourished. Gaining weight can be part of the healing process. Also... a lot of the gluten-free goodies (cookies, breads, muffins, etc...) have more calories than the originals. Foods like nuts, avocados, and coconut have a LOT of calories!
  4. HypOthyroidism is associated with low blood pressure and a slow heartrate. A high level of thyroid hormones (hypERthyroidism) can lead to palpitations and an accellerated heartrate.
  5. I don't know about celiac... but there's definitely a connection to thyroid disorders. My blood pressure has been as low as 70/40. I've also experienced dizziness when changing positions. My ten-month-old son is still breastfeeding at night and I keep his crib right next to my bed... even then, I worry about dropping him because I'm so dizzy
  6. I have a couple of thoughts... 1. Dairy can be a mucus-forming food 2. How long have you been in Manitoba? Have you been there during the summer to know if the higher humidity helps? When it's extremely dry the sinuses can have a hard time keeping up. Thick drainage down the back of your throat can cause coughing and vomiting. You could try...
  7. This website has really good information about starting solid foods (including alternatives to cereals and what to do if you suspect a food allergy): Open Original Shared Link My son has a severe intolerance to casein, so we decided to wait until he was six months old to introduce solid foods. We started with sweet potatoes... he hated it! Then we...
  8. Hmmm... good question. The American Heart Association and Mayo Clinic both mention low HDL as a risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link But... this seems to be based on HDL as a protective factor against high triglycerides and LDL. Looking at the issue of cholesterol from a different perspective...
  9. The low cholesterol and triglycerides were probably from malabsorption of fats. I bet your numbers are climbing back to an appropriate level now. Interesting and easy to check. A lot of people (even doctors) are so worried about high cholesterol that they forget it's dangerous to have really low HDL cholesterol! It's recommended to have a level of 50...
  10. Actually, it's not that uncommon to test "negative" on a celiac panel, even if you have a problem with gluten. The reference numbers are set pretty high to correlate with visible damage to your villi. You could easily have damage that just isn't visible yet! Some people even have a negative blood test and a positive endoscopy. Also, gluten can damage...
  11. Yeah... that's what the dermatologist told me. They're not dangerous, but they can be removed if you find them uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the scar would be just as big as the dermatofibroma. Until yesterday I didn't realize they're actually tiny, benign tumors. I have them on my upper leg, shoulder and scalp. Interesting that your father had them...
  12. They said they wouldn't be able to tell exactly what kind of infection unless they took the whole lymph node out for dissection... which is a possibility if the swelling doesn't go down soon. I'm definitely being cautious about candida. I'm taking an enteric-coated probiotic, eating yogurt every morning, and keeping sugars to a minimum. Your suggestions...
  13. Your son sounds exactly like one of my cousins! He's also very intelligent (and funny), but has been diagnosed with OCD and Tourette's. He has a really hard time with groups of people. School was a nightmare... he's doing better now that he's in his 20s, living on his own. Narcolepsy is associated with the DQ7 gene (Open Original Shared Link). So is...
  14. Our ten-month old son is severely intolerant to casein and corn. If he has even a tiny bit, it gives him eczema on his face. It's a reminder of when he was just a few weeks old and SO sick from the casein in my breastmilk. We're assuming that he's also intolerant to gluten. He can try it when he's older... for now, we're not taking any chances. Early...
  15. Thank you for thinking of me! Thanks to Patti too I agree with you about the general link to cancer. My dad's family has been plagued with it. Two siblings (out of eight) have died from breast cancer, one when she was only 29. Her two kids were just a little bit older than mine are right now. I've been thinking about her a lot. I also think about...
  16. Novacaine doesn't do much for me either... my dentist has started using a much stronger anaesthetic (the kind he uses when pulling teeth) and that helps a lot! You shouldn't have to feel any pain... don't be afraid to let your dentist know.
  17. I have several dermatofibromas that appeared in my 20s. They look like pimples or large moles, except they form a hard little lump that never goes away. I found this article today: Open Original Shared Link One more thing that makes sense... now that I know about my issues with inflammation and autoimmune disorders! Does anybody else have these?
  18. A little update... On Thursday I had a biopsy of that lymph node. It's not lymphoma! :D It's not any kind of malignancy at all. They did see some macrophages... so it looks like some kind of infection. Hopefully it will go away on the broad-spectrum antibiotic I'm taking. Not thrilled about antibiotics... but I'm taking probiotics in between...
  19. Do you have the reference ranges? Also it looks like someone may have switched the names around a little bit. I assume the results were for Ttg (tissue transglutaminase) and total IgA?
  20. Thyroid hormones are identical to the hormones your body should be producing naturally (it's like a type I diabetic taking insulin). They will NOT interfere with birth control or pregnancy tests. Also... thyroid hormones are considered a Class A drug, the safest possible for a pregnant woman. If a woman with hypothyroidism becomes pregnant, she should...
  21. Here are two articles about links between rheumatoid arthritis and gluten intolerance: https://www.celiac.com/articles/85/1/Arthri...ease/Page1.html Open Original Shared Link
  22. There are a couple of possibilities... 1. You're intolerant to gluten and not just wheat. That would mean you also need to cut out barley, rye, and oats (which are almost always contaminated with wheat). Wheat is considered a major allergen, so manufacturers are required to list it on their products. Not true for barley... it's used in all kinds of...
  23. I've had a couple of "silver" fillings replaced in the last three years. After the dentist drills out the original filling he or she can definitely replace it with a resin filling. I don't think it's common to layer one filling over another... fillings deteriorate over time, so you need to keep an eye on them. Keep in mind that metal shows up easily...
  24. Hi Veronica, The DQ genes are made of two parts, alpha (A1) and beta (B1). These tend to come in particular pairs. For example, A1*0501 comes with B1*0201 to form the highest-risk celiac gene DQ2.5. In the recent past, A1*0505 was also considered to be a DQ2 alpha gene, but is now considered part of DQ7.5 (which, even if you don't have DQ2 or DQ8...
  25. I'm also using Restasis... I can't believe what a difference it makes! In between doses I use Optive as needed, which is available over the counter. It's really a good idea to see an opthamologist. There are lots disorders that can cause dry eyes, but you want to treat it appropriately to avoid any scarring on your corneas.
