ARCHIVED Any Non-caucasians On Here?
zeta-lilly posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I spotted a website about celiac disease and it actually had a lot of good information on it, but it also had the statement that it was mainly a disease of people of caucasian descent and if you aren't caucasian, you probably don't have it. I didn't think that was the case and I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere. Anyway, I was just wondering if there was... -
ARCHIVED Neuromuscular Disease
zeta-lilly replied to billy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's so sad reading all these replies, that people had symptoms for years and no one even considered celiac disease. I feel so lucky that I was diagnosed before things had progressed to that point. I had started to get really clumsy. To the point where people were noticing that I got injured a lot, fell a lot, dropped things a lot, ran into things a lot,... -
Oh man, it sounds like you really are down in the dumps! Well look at it this way (this is the way that I look at it), you could've found this out when you were 40, or 60 or 80. But you've found out that you have celiac at 20. Now, I've had terrible depression and anxiety for as long as I can remember and since going gluten free I haven't had any at all....

ARCHIVED Did I Cause All This?
zeta-lilly replied to hollyhock's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Aw, that would be frustrating. A word of warning: You will probably test negative on your upcoming test. Especially if you're already doing gluten free. If you do have celiac disease, your intestines are starting to heal and your bloodwork will show few antibodies (if you're still doing gluten free). I think you should stick with it, although it doesn't sound... -
ARCHIVED Pf Chang's=amazing Gluten Free Experience!
zeta-lilly posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I just had the most amazing meal at PF Chang's! I've had a terrible time finding restaurants to eat at. Usually, the staff looks at you like you're speaking another language when you ask for gluten free menus and even if they do have a gluten free menu, the food is usually contaminated (I can tell almost immediately) or is just gross. And sometimes it's both... -
ARCHIVED Just One Bite?
zeta-lilly replied to bigbird16's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Doesn't it drive you crazy when people don't take your condition seriously! I don't think people believe me that it really makes me that sick. You know it's funny, because I read that other countries have more liberal standards for gluten consumption and labeling products. I can't imagine. I react to tiny amounts of gluten. I ordered a salad at a restaurant... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free 9 Mo. But Still Not Improvement - Should I Go To Mayo?
zeta-lilly replied to Blitz's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Did you ever decide if you're going to go or not? Are you feeling any better? -
ARCHIVED Need Help With My Daughter
zeta-lilly replied to Guhlia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow, I never thought about candy having corn in it! Corn is probably as hard an allergy to have as gluten. I still think you should add some extra sugar and fat to her diet. I know you want her diet to be healthy, but there's nothing wrong with a healthy diet with just a little bit of junk. The reason junk food is bad is that it's devoid of nutrition and... -
ARCHIVED Need Help With My Daughter
zeta-lilly replied to Guhlia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This is such a funny post to me because it rings so true. My 2 year old has always been skinny. She was at the 3rd percentile for the longest time. I think at 15 months she also weighed 19 pounds. We have some different feeding issues. It has more to do with texture than allergens. Plus my hubby's whole family is naturally scrawny, so she has no chance.... -
ARCHIVED Painful And Difficult Swallowing
zeta-lilly replied to mamabear's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My first thought is acute parotitis. Sjorgren's is the chronic version of that. You can have parotitis without the dry mouth and eyes. This would explain the pain and difficulty swallowing. I wouldn't think that a neurological problem would cause pain too, but I'm no expert. Have you tried to feel around your neck and throat are with your hand? If it hurts... -
honestly, I think you're worried than you need to be it doesn't sound like he's sick on a routine basis, just occasionally. It's possible he got glutened, but it's probably just a stomach bug or something funny he ate. Plus kids at that age don't wash their hands like they should. Prior to being gluten free, I used to get food poisoning all the time (it...

ARCHIVED Target & Wal-mart Brand Medications
zeta-lilly replied to horsegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been taking target brand acetaminophen the last couple days and I can confirm that it definitely contains gluten. I feel so sick now. I went over everything I ate, drank, and was otherwise exposed to and that was the only thing that it could have been. I went gluten free recently and forgot to check my medicine cabinet. Doh! -
ARCHIVED Tiny Red Bumps
zeta-lilly replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've always had little red bumps on my upper arms. So does my dad and a friend of mine (who has pretty severe colitis). They're not itchy or anything. Is that what you're talking about or it is that Dermatitis herpetiformis? I never thought about it being related, but I haven't been gluten free long. -
Wow! I can't even imagine that tasting good. And I hate the taste of metal. It sounds like you guys had it worse than I ever did! It's funny though, they just redid the elevator at the gym and it smells like paint, so good! Someone asked me why I came to the gym to run a few miles then lift weights, but I took the elevator instead of the stairs. I made up...

ARCHIVED Infertility, Still Not Cured By gluten-free Diet
zeta-lilly replied to minton's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, I really am. These boards are rather anonymous and there are people who get on here and make up all kinds of situations to ignite sympathy, anger, all kinds of emotions. Your story is pretty extreme. You have to understand that not everyone is going to believe you. And not everyone is going to believe that you got pregnant... -
ARCHIVED Hyperactive Child, Should I Get Her Tested?
zeta-lilly posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have a two year old who is hyperactive. She doesn't have any GI symptoms or any other signs of ill health. But she has the energy of ten kids and she moves from one activity to another to another. She's happy all the time, way less emotional than other kids her age, has no stranger anxiety, smiles and laughs all the time, loves everyone and everything.... -
Honestly I'd write him a (non-emotional, non-threatening) letter explaining why he upset you and that you'd like a refund. Maybe he has a bad sense of humor and didn't understand that he really upset you. I don't think you have a legal case. Maybe he'll give you an apology and a refund, maybe not, but he definitely won't unless you ask. Honestly I don't...

ARCHIVED Am I Overreacting?
zeta-lilly replied to kbdy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
No you're not overreacting, that teacher was being an inconsiderate jerk. I'm a little worried about all these issues when my child goes to school. The school I'm looking into is kind of a hippie granola type montessori school, so I think they'll understand the gluten issue more than a regular school will. -
ARCHIVED Infertility, Still Not Cured By gluten-free Diet
zeta-lilly replied to minton's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm sorry if this sounds harsh as well, but is this a joke? Look, I'm really sorry if you are genuine, but it's just not adding up. Do you really want to have a baby at 19, unmarried, and no money? I just don't see how someone can get pregnant THAT many times by 19. I know miscarriages are hard on people, and I'm not trying to diminish your pain, but whether... -
I'm not pregnant now, she's two :-) Since I've gone gluten free I feel much better. Also, I think to a certain degree thinking that gasoline, markers, and paint smell good is normal. Most of my friends think so, but wanting to eat them is totally different :-) I'm so glad that's over.
-
Okay, I'll preface this by saying that I never actually ate anything. I knew it was crazy, but when I was pregnant (pre-diagnosis), all I wanted to do was eat weird things. I have always had food cravings, but usually normal ones (cookies, bread). The biggest craving I had was permanent markers. I would sit there and fantasize about eating the marker in...

ARCHIVED gluten-free 9 Mo. But Still Not Improvement - Should I Go To Mayo?
zeta-lilly replied to Blitz's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Geoff, officially the word is that you can't get have a reaction unless you ingest the stuff, but I personally go totally gluten free because I reacted to makeup. It's probably a lot easier for me to react because I'm constantly touching my face and my hair. Also, your dandruff will have gluten on it and if it accidentally falls in your food... The chance... -
ARCHIVED Lactose - Casein Intolerance
zeta-lilly replied to odcdinah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What symptoms are people having to casein? I'm trying to figure out what foods I can tolerate and can't. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free 9 Mo. But Still Not Improvement - Should I Go To Mayo?
zeta-lilly replied to Blitz's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Do you know your thyroid levels? There have been some major changes in thinking over the last few years as far as what qualifies as hypothyroid. Although if you've been to endocrinologists, they would probably know about the new research even if most family docs do not. They used to say that TSH levels should be below 5, and they've recently revised that...
