ARCHIVED Children Of Celiac Mothers... What Kind Of Testing Is Sufficient?
Roda replied to Kate35's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had both my kids blood tested after I was diagnosed also and they were both negative. Oldest boy has been tested annually up till last year and was always negative. He also had a negative scope. Youngest was retested 2 years after initial test due to symptoms and he was positive. Oldest one went gluten free last year due to continued symptoms and it has... -
ARCHIVED My Son's Bday Party Is Tomorrow...
Roda replied to prairiemamma's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you don't have time you could always use Betty Crocker frosting. If it is gluten free it will be on the label. I don't worry about food coloring. Have a great birthday party!! -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Pumpkin Doughnut "hole" Recipe
Roda posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've made these twice now and my boys LOVE them. I'm tired today after making 10 dozen of these little suckers and most are going in the freezer for the kids lunches. Hubby likes them with his coffee. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Upcoming Hotel Stay...
Roda replied to prairiemamma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When the budget allows, we stay in a hotel room with a fridge and microwave. The hotels do charge extra for this though in a lot of instances. One trip my FIL helped pay for the hotel room so we got basically an efficiency. That was nice but not usual for us. So suggestions that I have done when I don't have any ammenities in the room: -take a refrigerated... -
ARCHIVED Why I Still Eat Bread...
Roda replied to SandraLAVixen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Is your porridge oats? Unless they are pure oats(certified gluten free) oats are not considered gluten free. They are cross contaminated. Then there are the 10-15% of celiacs(I'm one of them that reacts just like gluten) that can not tolerate the protein(avenin) in the oats itself. So even gluten free oats and gluten free products that may have cross... -
ARCHIVED Any Celiacs Out There Have Their Gallbladders Removed (Cholecystectomy)?
Roda replied to Invictus's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel for you. I'm sure that was miserable. That's why I'm dealing with it now before it gets unbearable. The belching and dyspepsia are my worse symptoms right now. I can deal with the cramping/pain. -
ARCHIVED Any Celiacs Out There Have Their Gallbladders Removed (Cholecystectomy)?
Roda replied to Invictus's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm pretty strict with my gluten free diet and I do know that I am for the most part healed. When I had the HIDA scan last month they give you CCK through an IV to stimulate the gallbladder. I'm hear to say that I had moderate cramping/pain from the test. That's how they find your ejection fraction. Even with CCK stimulation mine was only functioning... -
Yep, you can do what kitty suggested. If you didn't have the blood work done at the doctor's office, like at a hospital or outpatient facility, you could go and sign a release and pick up a copy of your blood work in medical records. I do this all the time to take to other doctors and for my personal file.

When my oldest son was around 7 his entire soles of his feet were covered with warts. Some of them caused him pain when he walked. I took him to his ped and was told there were too many to treat with salicylic acid, freeze or cut out. He suggested to try an injection of Gardasil. He had a patient that had warts all over his body and he gave the vaccine...

ARCHIVED Finally - Endoscope In Sight
Roda replied to glaska's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You could call and see if the GI has a cancellation list and be put on it. It could get you in sooner. I did this with my oldest son. -
ARCHIVED Ok, Im Confused.
Roda replied to co09wrx's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Go with what you GI is saying if you are comfortable with that. My youngest son is diagnosed without a scope/biopsy. If you still want to do the scope/biopsy, be aware that you have to be eating gluten to get the most accurate biopsy for celiac. The scope does look at the esophagus and stomach also. Biopsies are taken from both places to rule out other... -
Thanks, that's good to know. Until I looked it up I didn't realize that lortab and vicodin were the same thing. I went today to fill out my FML papers. I wanted to give my work plenty of time for the paperwork trail and not have to worry. My supervisor doesn't want me back for 3 weeks post op then I will be temporarily moved to day shift until the...

ARCHIVED Liothyronine - Gluten, Corn And Lactose Free Version? Paddock?
Roda replied to carolynmay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I feel fortunate that I do not have to worry about anything else in meds but gluten. I don't know about lactose and corn, but from a gluten standpoint I have taken Cytomel and the generic liothyronine from Paddock and Mylan. I've been fine with all three and am currently taking Mylan. I am currently on T3 and T4 meds. -
I agree with that. When I feel a migraine coming on I try and take something off the bat to catch it before it gets full blown. It does make a big difference.
-
I was thinking on those lines also, but just in case I need something stronger I want to get the RX. I may not need it, but would rather have it on hand if I do.
-
Thanks everyone. I was nervous going in there. I believe he said he prescribes lortab or vicoden or something of the sort. I can call my local pharmacy to see what brands they carry. I really want to opt for the less mind numbing of the two. I've had lortab once after a car accident(sore neck from whiplash) but only took one dose that same night to help...

ARCHIVED Question About Endoscopy
Roda replied to Ligii13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If the doctor comes out and tells you that they could visibly see damage I figure it must be bad. However, it's not uncommon for the GI doc to say it looks fine in a lot of instances. Since the damage that celiac does is at the cellular level, the biopsy samples need to be viewed under a microscope. I was told my intestine looked fine with only mild inflammation... -
I went for a surgical consult today to get my gallbladder removed. The surgeon pretty much explained everything to me and I had ample time to ask questions. My last concern I mentioned to him was getting any oral medications(pain meds) in recovery or before I was discharged, that might have gluten in them. He was very understanding and said that it would...

ARCHIVED Any Celiacs Out There Have Their Gallbladders Removed (Cholecystectomy)?
Roda replied to Invictus's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm having mine removed Oct. 24th. I never had any gallbladder problems that I know of until 2.5 years ago. At that time it was functioning at 48%(35% and below would meet surgical criteria) and symptoms were manageable and only her and there. A couple of weeks ago I had an episode. I thought there was something very wrong because I was lightheaded, nauseated... -
ARCHIVED Had My Endoscopy- So Confused
Roda replied to Momma Bear's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If your diagnosed celiac you can not eat any gluten. It is autoimmune and by continuing to eat just a little will keep the antibody reaction happening. Your GI is stupid to say that a little would be fine. -
Ditto what Mizzo said. Both my boys spend the night with their friends and I send them their dinner and breakfast. I also send snacks that they can share. They both are pretty good at knowing what they can and can't eat. If offered they are allowed to eat fresh fruits/raw veggies, cheese sticks and known safe yogurts/fruit snacks/candy. I have explained...

ARCHIVED Why I Still Eat Bread...
Roda replied to SandraLAVixen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sometimes there is no definative medical answers. You obviously have a severe reaction and have a need to be gluten free. When someone has a intolerance it won't show up on any tests. Elimination and your body reaction is the best measure. My oldest son who is now 11.5 years old is gluten free and is not diagnosed with celiac. He has non celiac gluten... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Food In The Hospital?
Roda replied to rachelh4207's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The dietician I consulted with after I was diagnosed just read off things from a pamplet and when I pointed out several mistakes she said that it seemed like I already knew enough. Didn't even mention the whole CC issue. Luckily my insurance paid for it cause it really wasn't worth my time. I know there are better ones out there though. For me the... -
ARCHIVED Positive Bloodwork But Negative Biopsy In My 7Yo Need Advice!
Roda replied to M817's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My now 7 yr old had positive blood work at age 5. Since I was diagnosed celiac and with his positive test I put him gluten free. I feared he would get a "negative" biopsy and told he didn't have celiac. Several months later we regretted not doing it and after 4.5 months of being gluten free we decided to do a gluten challange. It didn't go well and we...
