  1. If you are wanting any testing, blood work, biopsy or both you need to be on a full gluten diet. I personally believe it is better to stay on gluten and get the testing out of the way first. If you go off gluten now and want to testing later you would have to go on a gluten challenge for appx. 3 months consuming 3-4 slices of bread or equivilent/day. For...
  2. I agree with kareng. I wouldn't try it either.
  3. My kids don't have access to a microwave, so that is why I got the Warm and Tote system for my kids. It works pretty good. Yesterday they took leftover pasta with meat sauce, garlic toast and salad. Today they are taking leftover almond crusted chicken and steamed peas. Of course they took other things as well, like jello, fruit and other snacks...
  4. I know that despite teaching your child right from wrong it is ultimately up to them how they act when they are not with you. I hope my children would know better and would act appropriately , but there's no guarantee. If my children even thought of doing something like this to another person they would regret it big time!! As some of the other posters...
  5. If some of these people were to wait to get a "proper" diagnosis of celiac, they may be so sick or worse, by the time tests pick it up. Then again there are some people who will never test positive. My 11 year old son has never tested positive on yearly testing since he was 7 years old and had a negative biopsy also. I finaly gave in and decided...
  6. For me my reactions do correlate to how much I ingest. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that you probably just got lucky that your symptoms were not severe. It does sound by your post that you did have some reaction though.
  7. Yes! My youngest son can't seem to control himself at all when he has been gltuenened. He has mood swings, tempertantrums and obcessive behavior. I get really short and irritable as well. We both are getting over an accidental glutening and the tension is pretty high in our house right now.
  8. I hate to hear that your daughter is feeling bad. I hope it passes soon. Check around the school and in her class room to see if anyother kids are coming down with anything similar. If you haven't done anthing different at home maybe she could have gotten CC'd at school. She may not have got CC'd again either. I know for me after I get glutened...
  9. Here is a link to another thread. There are additional links in some of the posts. My kids took a deli sandwich on toast(Udi's), glutino pretzels, pudding cup and banana. For snack they took Schar table crackers with cheese and summer sausage.
  10. I posted this in another topic, but antiphospholipid antibody syndrome is autoimmune and can cause blood clots.
  11. I was reading up on a condition that a patient of mine tonight had and I thought it might be worth mentioning. antipospholipid antibody syndrome From what I read it is autoimmune and can be found with other autoimmune conditions/diseases and can cause blood clots. Here are a few links if you google it you can find a whole lot more on the subject...
  12. I eat this too. I have also tried out the savory recipes on the box and they were good also.
  13. Your daughter didn't get the full celiac panel and blood testing has a higher rate of false negatives in children. After all your testing is complete you can always trial her a good 3 months on a strict gluten free diet to see how she reacts. That is what I did with my oldest son. My oldest son has had constipation issues since birth. He was on so...
  14. This subject came up with a friend of mine. My husband was brought up catholic and I thought it would be a good thing to introduce my boys to some catholic services. I am not catholic and my boys have never been. My friend said that there are low gluten hosts and if the boys were ever to take communion that there wasn't enough gluten in them to hurt them...
  15. We were in Danbury, CT all last week visiting my FIL. Overall the trip was really good and we had a nice visit with my FIL and his wife. We went to Mystic Seaport and had a great time and we couldn't have asked for better weather that day. It was beautiful out. My hubby had misunderstood his dad's directions and we were headed to Boston before we realized...
  16. I had my oldest son(11) blood tested every year since I was diagnosed because he was so much like me as a child. After his younger brother was diagnosed 15 months ago, I realized my oldest had almost quit growing the whole year of 4th grade and was falling on his growth chart. He was also complaining of daily stomach aches, constipation, nausea, gas and...
  17. My now 7 year old has taken probiotics since he was about 6 months old. They helped a lot when he was a baby with recurrent yeast infections, thrush and bowel yeast overgrowth from having to many antibiotics.
  18. Because of the malabsorption it can cause(this is seen in NCGI too) deficiencies is vitamins and minerals. Some of the big ones to have checked are all the fat soluable vitamins(D,K, A, E) and vitamin B12, folate, iron, and ferritin.
  19. I found out I had hashimotos when I was pregnant with my now 11 year old. I was already being treated for hypothyroidism 3 months before I got pregnant. I was having wonky symptoms during my pregnancy that prompted my PCP to test for the antibodies. They went down but I'm not exactly sure "when" since noone ever thought to test them again for a long time...
  20. I'm diagnosed with blood work and biopsy only. I've never had the genetic test so I have no idea what genes I have. I am curious though. If I was to get it done I want to know if I can get the test without going through my doctor? I don't need them second guessing my diagnosis, if I happen to not have the DQ2 or DQ8. I've been thinking about it for my...
  21. Thanks Skylark. For some reason I can't seem to remember them.
  22. My youngest son was diagnosed a hair shy of turning 6. He was always small and did not weight a lot. After going gluten free he has had a growth explsosion. He is now 7 and has grown over 4 1/2 inches. He went from the 10th or 20th percentile on height (not sure which one he was at) to the 50th. He is no longer one of the smallest kids. He is right...
  23. Well it is very likely that you could have gotten a false negative test because of you being off gluten for 6 weeks. That is enough time for some people to skew the tests. Also only back on a "gluten light" diet for three weeks isn't sufficient enough to get accurate testing either IMHO. If gluten bothers you don't eat it. Or if you want to persue...
  24. Your system could just be out of wack from the gluten CC. It can take awhile for some to recover. For example when I get CC'd, depending on the amount, my glutening symptoms can last for up to two weeks. I have to be extra careful with what I eat since my stomach and intestines are so sensitive. Once it passes I can go back to eating normally(gluten free...
  25. So were you positive on all of those tests? The EMA is pretty specific to celiac. You possibly may have gotten a false negative biopsy. It can happen a number of ways: GI doc didn't take enough samples(it is recommended to have a minimum of 8-11 samples taken in the first part of the small bowel from different areas), damage was patchy and the damaged...
