ARCHIVED Think I May Try Candida Diet
Roda replied to HS7474's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Anyone have any luck with getting rid of the yeast and able to reintroduce some grains and fruit back into their diet? I've been contemplating that I may have an bowel yeast overgrowth. My main symptom is a skin yeast infection around the perineum and external vaginal area. Originally I thought I had a vaginal yeast infection and kept going to the... -
ARCHIVED Your Cooking Method For gluten-free Pasta
Roda replied to researchmomma's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I let the hubby cook it. Seriously though, I let my hubby cook it because I've never been able to cook pasta right even pregluten free days. He watches it like a hawk and pulls it out to test it frequently. Even with the corn pasta he does this because he can't stand for it to overcook. We have been happy so far with Sam's Mill corn pasta. He has even... -
Yep, someone at summer camp last May gave my youngest son two of those. My son was still shy about telling adults "NO" when it came to food(and he had fun eating them). The staff was not informed by the director that he was not to be fed anything of theirs(Yes the director assured me this wouldn't happen ). So mistakes happen and we all learned a lesson...

ARCHIVED "food Should Taste Good" Products, Beware Oat Fiber?
Roda replied to CeliacAndCfsCrusader's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never had them but wouldn't be able to eat them because I react to gluten free oats and cross contamination from them very badly. I hope you feel better soon. -
ARCHIVED Could I Have Celiac?
Roda replied to mndyoga's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you wait to get tested in March after you have been gluten free for over a month you could get a false negative test. Yes your symptoms and improvements after removing gluten do sound consistant for celiac or gluten indtolerance. It can manifest in so many ways. -

ARCHIVED Repeat Testing In Toddler
Roda replied to 3littleblessings's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes testing in children can be negative a lot of the time. Both my boys were tested after I was diagnosed and they were negative. They were 3.5 and 7.5 at the time. I had the oldest one retested every year since then and continued to be negative on bloodwork. He had a scope/biopsy Aug. 2011 at age 10.5 and it was negative also. I finaly decided to... -
ARCHIVED How Many Family Members Do You Think Are Affected By Gluten?
Roda replied to Jestgar's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Not sure if I answered right. I know both my kids have gluten issues with youngest one having celiac and the other technically NCGI so I included them in my answer. They are both gluten free. I suspect my father has it as well as my brother. Dad had one blood test years ago, but I don't think he had all the right tests done. He developed some symptoms... -
ARCHIVED Dental Enamel And Gluten Intolerance
Roda replied to Germaine's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My now 7 year old has perfectly formed baby teeth but developed his first cavities at age 2.5 and has multiple fillings. His bottom 6 year molars came in and just didn't look right. Part of them looks like a normal tooth and other parts are a tan color. The dentist said he had bad enamal and the tooth structure wasn't normal. His one even had to have... -

Yeah, they still do make them. I found myself scrounging around the house just to find one the other day. I use them so infrequent now. -
ARCHIVED Help Please? 13 Year Old Son Sneaking Wheat!
Roda replied to candygirl69's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You have got a lot of great advice. Some that I will be taking to heart too. I have an almost 11 year old(not celiac), who after doing a three month gluten free trial, decided to stay gluten free. He is in 5th grade and right now and doesn't seem bothered by being on the diet and different. I'm hoping when he gets to middle school he will have the same... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Put In The Lunch Box?
Roda replied to Jennifernawrockicor's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I pack lunches for both of my boys. They are 7 and almost 11. I do pack them sandwiches on Udi's bread or bagles. I wrap the slices in moist paper towels and defrost them in the microwave. I will then wrap the sandwich in moist(not sopping) paper towels and put it into a sandwich container or baggie. It seems to work pretty good. I will also do sandwiches... -
ARCHIVED Hubby Causes Insomnia? Suggestions?
Roda replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My husband snores terrible. He has had chronic sinus issues for a long time and had sinus surgery a few years back. Recently I convinced him to use a neti pot to irrigate. I've noticed he is snoring less. He also mentioned that he doen't have as much post nasal drainage and it is helping to relieve some of his "allergy" symptoms. -

I'm stuck watching the cartoon chanel and never get to see shows like this. As far as the envelopes are concerned, there are envelopes that you peel off the paper and stick. No licking required... -

ARCHIVED Starting The Gluten Free Journey
Roda replied to Jmedrew's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would get the celiac blood panel done again before you start the diet. My youngest son(in hindsite probably had an issue with gluten as a baby) had negative tests when he was 3.5 years old after my diagnosis. Because of symptoms he had developed, I had him retested when he was 5 almost 6 and his blood work was positive. He has been gluten free now for... -
ARCHIVED Is Your House Completely gluten-free? If Only One Of You Has Celiac?
Roda replied to kb27's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I still do maintain a shared house. After I was diagnosed though, since I do most of the cooking all shared meals, were gluten free as was any baking. I won't let any flour/regular mixes in the house. I replaced what I needed to to keep me from getting cross contaminated. My husband and two boys continued to eat crackers, cereal and bread and ate... -
ARCHIVED Question For Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerants
Roda replied to Aly1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I guess you could call my oldest son NCGI. He has had negative blood work several times and had a negative biopsy. We decided to trial him gluten free to see if it made a difference. Symptoms prior to gluten free: chronic constipation since birth(went down a long road with mineral oil, fleets enemas, apple juice and miralax), stomach pain/gas/bloating... -
I wouldn't be to discouraged about the reflux not resolving just yet. You have been on PPI's for a very long time. Did you taper off of them or cut them out cold turkey? Tapering is better so you don't get the rebound effect that raven was talking about. Some people have to continue to take them until they heal after going gluten free. Eventally a lot...

ARCHIVED Going To The Doctor...
Roda replied to New Community Member's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For the fatigue; have you had your iron and ferritin checked? How about your thyroid? Vitamin D? All of these can contribute/cause extreme fatigue. As for the other symptoms things to consider: gallbladder problems, other food intolerences, SIBO, yeast, possible CC? Just food for thought. -
I did eventually put my dog and cat on a grain free food in hope in finding out what was getting me. It turned out not to be the pet food. I feel better feeding it to them and they are much healthier. They eat less and poop less too!
-
Well one of my boys falls in the 1 in 22. It actually was because of him that I eventually found out I had celiac. I had to eliminate so many things from my diet when I was breastfeeding because of reactions he would have(rashes, colic severe reflux). I had inadvertantly went gluten light. After I added back all the things I eliminated I started having...

Definately get your iron and ferritin checked. Both can be low because of the malabsorption from celiac. Low iron and ferritin can cause hair loss too.

ARCHIVED What Conditions Accompany Your Celiac?
Roda replied to Gfgoddess's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Before I was diagnosed with celiac: anemia, fatigue, hashimoto's, reflux, constipation, bloating, SVT After I was diagnosed with celiac: vitamin D deficiency and anemia(now resolved), raynauds, oat intolerant, slightly underfunctioning gallbladder -
We have black widows and the brown recluse spiders here in TN. My hubby is the one who is creeped out the most over any insect. It's the feel of the legs and the stickiness of some of them that get him or them squirming. He gets the willies when the boys and I watch the show Infested. For me I don't like rodents. My cat brought in a mole nosed...
