  1. If he doesn't eat oats do you check the gluten free products for gluten free oat cross contamination? Just a thought. I'm extremely sensitive to certified gluten free oats and cross contamination from them. I have to call and check about oat CC. It has eliminated a lot of gluten free products for me. There are manufactures that don't use oats at all...
  2. My oldest son sad an EGD last Aug. when he was 10.5. He did really good. They explained everything they were going to do before hand to him. They had to start an IV before and they used a numbing patch on the skin. No problem, but even if they didn't use it he would have been fine. They took him back and gave him the sedation in his IV. They used propofol...
  3. Yes many people with celiac tolerate gluten free oats just fine. Appx. 10% of celiacs can not tolerate the oat protein(avenin) and cross react to it. My reactions to gluten free oats is pretty bad. I also react pretty bad to cross contamination from them which eliminates a lot of gluten free products. It's a major pain to have to go the extra mile to...
  4. I'm the same way as raven. Can't tolerate because of the oats.
  5. Try getting a referral to an allergist/immunologist. My youngest son was referred(at my urging) at 14 months old(he is now 7). He really helped us a lot.
  6. I don't know the statistics, but my search in 2008 lead me to celiac. I was looking for a connection on hashimoto's disease and low ferritin/anemia. I found lots of articles referencing celiac. It was this research that eventually prompted me to get tested by my endocrinologist for celiac.
  7. What haven't I put in my two kids lunches. -a variety of different types of sandwiches made out of udi's bread/bagles or homemade crepes -leftovers from supper(anything from pot roast, shrimp, chicken, mashed potatoes, rice, various steamed veggies etc.) -soups in thermos -salsa and tortilla chips -cheese and crackers -cut up fruit and veggies...
  8. I met a grandmother of a friend of my youngest son. She proceeded to tell me that she was allergic to wheat. She then said she gave up whole wheat bread and only eats white bread now. DUH!!!
  9. I've tried this recipe several times now. First two times were alright at best. I made it again today and it was great. Here is what I think I did wrong the first two times: tried using regular yeast 1st time, used yeast specially formulated for pizza the second time and spread out the crust to thin(we like a thicker crust). Today I made the crust...
  10. I would say the "mild" stomach aches could be related. While you are probably not getting a big hit of gluten all at once the low levels can eventually add up and cause symptoms. If you want to stop the immune reaction and damage(yes even little amounts from cc can keep inflammation/damage going) you need to me more conscious of cross contamination. ...
  11. Overall gluten free was harder for me. I've been dairy free several times, when I breastfed both my boys and once for a good three months thinking it was the cause of the problems I was having in 2010 after I had been gluten free for 1.5 years. Substituting dairy alternatives in baking/cooking was no problem for me. What got me was not having any cheese...
  12. You've got good advice on how to reintroduce oats. I am very envious of those who can eat them and wish I could. Good luck on reintroducing them..
  13. Ener G is my main stay for flours. For me though,I had to find brands that didn't have any gluten free oat cross contamination. There isn't any oat cc and I don't react to their products from a gluten cc standpoint either.
  14. King Arthur does not guarrante their gluten free flours are free from gluten free oat CC. I buy Enger G brand flours and mix it myself. No gluten free oat cc with them. Betty Crocker doesn't have any oat cc either. Here is a link I started that may benefit you.
  15. AWW, what a great update. I'm so glad you are happy and healthy now!!
  16. Thanks for all the thoughts. They mean a lot. When someone is hurting I think it is natural to want to find something, even if it is a long stretch, to help rationalize or find a reason for it. There is a lot of cancer in his family, so I do think there is to some degree a genetic predisposition.
  17. I wasn't insinuating that they both had undiagnosed celiac and that it CAUSED their cancer. I was wanting opinions on whether there was any link. Now I have one. I realize it is was probably a long stretch and even stated I may have "blinders".
  18. Wow! My husband recieved some bad news this evening. His father called to tell him that he has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It has already metastasized to his liver. My husbands paternal grandfather also died of pancreatic and stomach cancer. I think there is more at play here. I find it eerily similar to what his grandfather had....
  19. I would use them. Put them through the diswasher or hand wash them really good and let dry. You could always put the tea in ziploc sandwich bags then store the bags in the tins too.
  20. Betty Crocker gluten free Bisquik mix makes great waffles. I make several batches up at a time and freeze them. The kids will take them out, pop then into their toaster and have a warm breakfast. I also do the same with pancakes and crepes. My kids are crazy for crepes and use them for sandwich wraps. They also like Udi's bread/bagles and Glutino...
  21. My IgA tTG was positive. I didn't know about the other tests at the time. I had a positive biopsy, but my GI said I had a "choice" to either go gluten free and follow up in 6 months or continue eating gluten and repeat the blood work in three months. WTF? I went gluten free...DUH that was a no brainer given my test results.
  22. Digestive enzymes may help. When I was recovering from my 8 month malabsorption in 2010 (come to find out it was from gluten free oat cross contamination) I took prescription creon and it helped. I took it for three months along with a strict diet. I only need it now when I have a bad glutening.
  23. Unfortunately it is not routine for most doctors to biopsy for celiac during an EGD unless they are specifically looking for it. I think this is stupid, because in your case you might have to undergo the test again.
  24. My youngest son was almost 6 when he was diagnosed. He already knew what celiac was since I have it. He was really sad for awhile, but he had a great kindergarden teacher. He was made to not feel different. They had snack everyday and the parents took turns providing it. The teacher got together with all the parents with children with allergies/food...
