  1. Your mom should just substitute the brand of soup and not even tell him. I make homemade cream of celery and mushroom soup for recipes(since I never can find a safe one in the store for me) and they taste so much better. My husband preferes the homemade now. I'm sorry that hurt your feelings. In time it will get easier.
  2. I don't let the school try and feed my boys at all. Top much chance of cross contamination. I pack a lunch for them every day. This might be a good place to start to look for gluten cc.
  3. A hida(Heptato Iminodiacetic Acid) scan or cholescintigraphy is a nuclear medicine imaging procedure that evaluates the health and function of the gallbladder and tracks the flow of bile from the liver to the small intestine. OP, it's not that uncommon for people with celiac/gluten intolerence to have problems with their gallbladders and liver.
  4. Welcome MrAtari(Adam)! How to deal with celiac disease is a big learning curve. It's unfortunate that a lot of doctors tell you that you have celiac and send you on your way with not much resources. I had a month from when my blood work was positive till I had my scope that I scoured for information(I had been doing research prior on my thyroid disorder...
  5. I was wondering if anyone has taken this? I was given samples of this for my 10 year old to take by his allergist. He was having intestinal upset from an antibiotic he was taking. I bought a box of 30 to try for myself to get a good start and then go back on my regular probiotic. I have been off of probiotics for some time and I am regretting that decision...
  6. OP, I'm curious how your son is doing? Have you found anything out? We are all thinking about you
  7. Kaity: Blood work is notorious for having about a 30% false negative rate in young children. I believe that my son suffered from celiac since he was a baby. However I didn't know about celiac or gluten then. I was diagnosed with celiac when he was almost 4. I had him and my other son blood tested then and they were negative. Two years and many symptoms...
  8. That's great news! Seeing progress like that makes the whole thing worth it. My youngest son has celiac and has grown over 4" and went up to the 50th percentile in weight from 10th since he went gluten free last year. My oldest son who does not have celiac, but we put gluten free in Aug. of this year, has gained 6+ lbs. since then. He is starting...
  9. Well at least you will be able to support him. I found at first having a child with celiac more challenging than just myself. Now that the youngest one has been gluten free for a year it is a lot easier. He has really come around and has accepted it. He is a trooper. He will be 7 tomorrow and navigates pretty good for a little guy. Keep us posted on...
  10. Have you had your older daughter screened? She is old enought to explain about a blood test if you were to go this route. I put my oldest son who is 10 gluten free in August of this year. He has had blood work 4-5 times and it is always negative. He had a scope/biopsy in Aug. that was negative also. I toyed with the idea of trying him gluten free...
  11. Inst that the truth. My goodness, I think my kids school should buy stock in hand sanitizer. They encourage it's use prior/after everything and has mostly replaced handwashing before lunch, snack or parties. UGG! I was very adamant that my kids were to WASH with soap and water period because the sanitizer would not get gluten off their hands. One year...
  12. I do agree with you. I used to love Bob's Red Mill products and I think they are a great company. When I make references I try to state I don't tolerate the products anymore because of my rather severe and annoying gluten free oat intolerence. I love oats and wish this wasn't a problem for me. It's not only this brand I have eliminated but other brands...
  13. Me too! Blood and biopsy diagnosed. I've never had the gene testing done. I am considering it for my youngest son. If he was to have the two "common" genes I could get an official diagnosis for him since we didn't put him through a biopsy. Then again I know he has celiac and I may just leave it at that!
  14. I agree with this. Those who post on here that are supersensitive will add that they are in the minority and that their reactions are not typical. I'm not sure where I fall on the sensitivity spectrum, but I have had to eliminate a lot of gluten free items because of bad reactions to small amounts of gluten free oat CC. Smaller amounts of gluten CC...
  15. My youngest son had horrible reflux when he was a baby. He did the same thing, he would projectile vomit everywhere. He once refluxed while he was laying down, and thank the heavens that I was right there because he had milk bubbling out of his nose and was starting to turn blue. It's really scary and I sympathize with you. He was put on zantac at 2....
  16. Are you eating certified gluten free oats? Regular commercial oats are often cross contaminated with wheat. Then there people that react to the oats themselves. I unfortunately am one who reacts to pure certified oats. My reactions are as bad as if I ate wheat, barley or rye. I hope you can figure out something and feel better soon.
  17. It will be interesting when I have my blood work redone in Feb. My tTG has been normal since 6 months gltuen free but I have had continued elevated IgG gliadin. They kept telling me gluten was getting into my diet. I'm hoping it will be normal now that I have eliminated all gluten free oat CC(It has been 1 year 4 months now since I eliminated it and had...
  18. I agree with waiting on trying the oats for awhile. When you are ready to introduce them I would only get certified gluten free oats. I waited until i was 7 months gluten free to try them. OH BOY, I was not happy. I reacted horrible to them, just as bad as wheat, barley and rye. Unfortunately I was unaware of gluten free oat cross contamination(CC) so...
  19. It wouldn't hurt getting retested since you are consuming gluten. I agree with the PP that after you are done with testing go gluten free since you said you felt better that way. Yes your test results can change. In hindsite I think my youngest son had a gluten issue since he was an infant. By the time I found out I had celiac he was almost 4 and...
  20. I am diagnosed via blood work and biopsy. I was already covered on my health insurance for 5 years before I was diagnosed. I have never had a problem with any insurance I have had through employers with preexisting conditions. However, I have never been without coverage so that may make a difference too. There are things a diagnosis could be good...
  21. Glad this time went better. Have a great time with your family. Merry Christmas!!
  22. You had three different tests for celiac with all being positive. The deamidated gliadin and tTG are pretty specific for celiac. Just looking at the blood work alone you have celiac. Some doctors will diagnose just on that alone, but there are some who still want a scope/biopsy to confirm. My youngest son has celiac and went gluten free last year...
  23. It does suck that you have not had much luck with the endocrinologists. I've had three. First one was pretty good, second not so good and my current one is GREAT! With her help, I have got on a good thryoid medication regimin, she treats my symptoms and will order any blood test I want(within reason). My endo is the one I asked to order the celiac blood...
  24. Wow it sounds like he is having a hard time. Hopefully you will get some relief. Here is one possible idea for you to look at. Maybe he is having problems with packaged gluten free products. Some celiacs are even sensitive to the low levels to react. Another possible thing to consider is that he could be sensitive to gluten free oats. Bob's Red Mill...
  25. I have used Kraft marshmallows and fluff without any problems. I got a hankering for fudge today. My first batch I didn't cook long enough so it was a flop. Second batch was a winner. I was going to put some in a gift basket, but after the effort I had to put into it, it's staying at home. I had to hand beat it forever and even got a blister before it...
