  1. She could go to a "knowledgeable" dermatologist and ask for a skin biopsy for DH. They have to biopsy the clear skin adjacent to a lesion and not the actual lesion. It has to be done properly to get an accurate test. A diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis of celiac. I don't have DH and others on here know more about the biopsy procedure than I do. Many on...
  2. I kept all of mine, plastic and metal. I put them through the dishwasher.
  3. Hi, I hope all is well. Do you know of any support groups in the Johnson City area? Or any people that get together to share recipes and experiences? Thank you

  4. I read something about that in the newspaper. Wow, that makes me feel so much better. So my question is: Is that two tablespoons per slice or per pie? Either way, it's probably gross and I'm glad my kids can't eat it...
  5. I'm not a sushi eater, so I guess you dip the sushi roll in the soy sauce? I hope your reflux goes away soon.
  6. Like Raven said it's entirely up to you if you want the EGD. It seems pretty clear that you have a problem with gluten and need to be off of it. I already knew I had celiac based on the blood work buy wanted the EGD to rule out other things as well. It served as a good baseline for me because 1 1/2 years after I went gluten free I had to have another EGD...
  7. Have you ever had your gallbladder looked at? You can have a dysfunctioning gallbladder without having gall stones. When I was malabsorbing terrible I started on creon. It is available by prescription. It is a pancreatic enzyme, but more potent that what you get over the counter. I took it for three months. Now I only take it if I get glutened somehow...
  8. Well, they soy sauce you had probably had gluten in it. Also, the sushi could have been cross contaminated from other sources. Reflux can be a symptom when glutened. I get reflux when glutened.
  9. Yes if you have celiac eating gluten will keep the autoimmune reaction going. With every bite you are causing damage even if you don't feel any symptoms while doing so.
  10. Now that she had the biopsy, I would at least trial the diet for a few months. IMHO nobody should be producing antibodies (provided she doesn't have any other autoimmune disorders that could falsely elevate the tests-which is very uncommom) unless they have celiac. My youngest son(6 almost 7) had a positive IgA tTG only. I did not biopsy him. Hubby...
  11. I'm with pricklypear if you want to try oats go with certified gluten free oats. I don't think the instant oatmeal would be safe due to the cross contamination from wheat and not to mention from processing. Sadly I am intolerent of all oats and even have issues from gluten free oat contamination in products. Needless to say I'm jealous of those who can...
  12. I agree. Inquiring minds want to know....
  13. This is an old thread. However, I do think that Bob's Red mill does a good job with testing for gluten. They have a separate facility dedicated for gluten free. They however do not test for avenin, the protein in oats. They process gluten free oats and I believe their products to be gluten free oat contaminated. I am gluten free oat intolerent and discovered...
  14. I don't think there is a gluten free thing on their menue. The oil is most likely contaminated too, so the ff and things would be out. Maybe this person is doing a gluten challenge?? Here is a link I found if this is in fact what the OP is talking about. Open Original Shared Link
  15. Hey, if you like it then keep eating it.
  16. Make sure you demand the following tests: total IgA (validates the IgA testing) IgA/IgG tTG (tissue transgluaminase) IgA/IgG DGP (deamidated gliadin peptide) IgA EMA (endomysial antibody) IgA/IgG AGA (anti gliadin antibody- these are being replace by the newer DGP, but some labs are not able to run those so may need these if the DGP not available)...
  17. I just realized that I posted in another topic you had and that you are 17 years old. If you are eating Thanksgiving at home could mom possibly make the turkey gluten free and just have the stuffing on the side? Maybe have majority of the meal safe for you to eat? If not then the suggestions in my previous post would help.
  18. I agree with Peter on that. I wouldn't touch either of those things with a 10' pole. I personally would make up a safe gluten free meal for myself and take it with me. You could warm it up when you get there and what you have left at home will make great leftovers. You could roast a small chicken, make gluten free stuffing, a crustless pumpkin pie (I...
  19. As for making up the work is there anyone in your class willing to tutor you to help you catch up? Maybe get a doctor's statement as to why you have missed so much school. Your whole family needs to be educated on celiac. The book Gluten Free For Dummies by Dana Korn is a really good book to start off with. It explains things very easily. If the...
  20. I was thinking the same thing!
  21. If you had your tests run at different labs that is one possibility of the inconsistencies. A lot of the time different labs will have different reporting ranges. Also I would think the measure of things could varry to some degree. If the numbers are within a reasonable + or - range of the original, I would say it could be a testing varriation. Just a...
  22. It doesn't look like you had a full celiac pannel done only the tTG. It includes: Total IgA (to validate the IgA testing), IgA/IgG tTG(tissue transglutaminase antibody), IgA/IgG DGP(deamidated gliadin peptide), IgA EMA(endomysial antibody), and if the newer DGP test isn't available(some labs don't perform it), then IgA/IgG AGA(anti gliadin antibody). Your...
  23. My oldest son is not celiac (negative blood work 4 times and negative biopsy). He had major constipation issues since birth and dropped on the growth curve by the time he was 12 months old significantly. At one point he was on miralax for appx. 1.5 years. We just thought he was going to be small. He stayed pretty consistant at the 25th percentile but...
  24. I forgot to add that after I blanch them I slip the skins off. I also don't let all the ground up almonds that are left over after straining go to waste. I use it in baking.
  25. You can make your own almond milk. You can get raw almonds and blanch them, put them in the blender with some filtered water and blend for a good while, strain (I use jelly straining bags), then add a touch of honey, maple syrup, vanilla, etc if desired. I usually use 3/4 cup almonds to 2 cups water. I like to make smaller batches since I am the only one...
