  1. Have you had her evaluated for ovarian cysts? They can cause lower abdominal/pelvic pain. I would explain to her that her tests are going to be negative because she has been gluten free for a year. Hopefully that will help. My oldest son has been gluten free for about three months now. All testing he has had over the past three years is negative...
  2. The fact that she had a positive blood test, even with the negative biopsy, sounds like you are doing the best thing for her. Why on earth would the doctor recommend her waiting until damage to be done to go gluten free? I don't get it. BTW, how is your hubby doing?
  3. According to some other posts this person does have celiac. You need to be gluten free and not cheet. You very well may not get the relief you are wanting as long as you are consuming gluten.
  4. They won't be able to diagnose celiac from a colonoscopy. They do that with an upper scope which you had done. They either didn't do the biopsy correctly, didn't sample a damaged area(not visible to the naked eye), or you didn't have enough damage to show on the biopsy. False negatives are very common with this. Hopefully you can figure out where to go...
  5. I really don't know how many. I know I used to get ear infections and strep a lot as a kid and even had scarlatina(scarlet fever) two or three times also. As an adult I've not had as many maybe 10 or so. I had a bout last year where I was having to take diflucan frequently. My 10 year old only had one antibiotic till age 2.5. He started daycare at...
  6. My oldest son does not have a celiac diagnosis. Bloodwork all negative multiple times and he had a negative scope. We could find no other cause for his stalled growth, daily stomach aches and constipation since birth. I put him gluten free after his scope. It's been a little over three months now. We are now really starting to see the changes. He no...
  7. What did you find out at Earth Fare? I might be intestered if more people show an interest. I'll have to see what I can dig up.
  8. Don't beat up on yourself too bad. It is really a huge learning curve! Don't be too quick to rule out other food intolerences. If you don't notice any improvements after you make the changes, revisit it. You are a good parent to have even given gluten a thought in the first place!! I've been doing this for three years now and I still make mistakes...
  9. Hey, can someone tell me how they really feel?
  10. We eat Orville Redenbacher and pop it on the stove or in a hot air popper.
  11. I know when I start taking probiotics, if I have been off of them awhile, I get gassy until everything evens back out.
  12. Well if she has been gluten free for 6 months the biopsy is "likely" to come back negative. From what you describe, it sounds like to me that she is getting cross contaminated. Here are some of the things I did after I was diagnosed that I shared on another topic(I'm just going to copy and paste it here). There is even less gluten in the house since my...
  13. How long has she been gluten free? There is a good chance that her biopsy will be negative since she has been gluten free. However, if you are wanting the scope it can look for other possible problems also and if she has a lot of damage it still might show. My oldest son has had negative celiac blood work three times. I took him to a GI in August and...
  14. I was diagnosed with hashi's before I had my first son. I contined my RX thyroid medications because I needed them. I breastfed both my boys for over a year. There were no side effects for them and they are safe to take. I don't have any idea about the supplements you are talking about though.
  15. Sounds like she is feeling bad. You got a lot of good advice from the other posters. Have they checked her vitamin and mineral levels? They too often are low/deficient because of the malabsorption. A good probiotic may help her also. Just to put it out there are you preventing cross contamination the best you can when you cook for her? Are you...
  16. There are alternative antiseptic washes that can be used to scrub before surgery/procedures. Also I would be cautious about getting any oral or IV iodinated contrast for x-ray procedures. It probably could cause a flare of DH.
  17. I saw these too. The "gluten free formula" caught my attention. I didn't buy them. I'll be curious to hear what you find out.
  18. My youngest son's tTG was 16 with > 15 positive. So he was only one number over being positive. I have no idea if he would have had any visible damage or not since we did not do a biopsy. He reacts terrible when he injests gluten. We got his 1 yr blood work back and I'm happy to report that it is now negative at a 2!
  19. One year update: My youngest son has had such major improvent over this last year. Symptoms he had starting 6 months prior to going gluen free: extreme moodiness, "puke burps"(reflux), stomach aches, out of the ordinary obcessive behavior over shoes, temper tamtrums and occasional steatorrhea. All of these symtoms have gone away and only resurface if...
  20. Been there done that and have the T-shirt. Both my parents eventually did get screened. Their doctor said their tests were negative, but the idiot wouldn't give them a copy of the tests. Anyway, I believe my Dad has celiac. He has all the classic symptoms and has for as long as I can remember. He is seeing so many doctors for GI issues, neuoropathy,...
  21. I agree with the other posters. I just wanted to share my kids' stories. I think my youngest son(he is almost 7) has had celiac since he was a baby. We just didn't know it then. I was diagnosed when he as almost 4, and by that time he "seemed" healthy and was doing well. His celiac bloodwork was negative then. Fast forward 1 1/2 years and he started...
  22. I agree with Sandsurf that if that woman feels better gluten free then so be it who cares what she calls it. I also agree with Katrala that other problems/testing should be explored. She can still be convinced she is celiac and eat gluten free if she so chooses, but should be open to other possibilities and not have blinders on either. And yes, not everything...
  23. I tell everyone that we all are diagnosed. I feel for that kid in that post too. His doctor in the very least should have recommended him trying the diet. A well educated dr. in celiac should KNOW the problems with biopsy and the rest of the gluten spectrum.
  24. My kids pediatrician probably doesn't even know my youngest son is diagnosed and the oldest is gluten free either. This is the same guy who reused to screen my kids when I was diagnosed! At least they got screened by their allergist and the youngest son was retested by our new allergist. The only reason I stay with the ped is because right now it is the...
  25. Well it certainly sounds like you could be in the right place. If you can hold out for your insurance then I would request the blood tests. If not then you could trial the diet now. But be aware if you want testing down the road you will have to go back on gluten for about 3 months(eating 3-4 slices of bread or equivilent) to get the best chance of accurate...
