  1. I made these last night. They were really good. I didn't have cilantro so I subbed fresh parsley out of my herb garden and used Betty Crocker gluten free bisquik for the flour. I made my quinoa up in my pressure cooker. Wow so easy and I didn't have to worry about it burning to the bottom. I had enough quinoa to make a batch and a half. The half batch...
  2. Making a unexpected trip Feb. 20th. There is a Trader Joe's close to the hotel we will be staying in. I've never seen or been in a Trader Joe's but I know people on here post a lot about their store. So do they have a pretty decent selection of gluten free items? I'm also gluten free oat intolerent. Anyone know if any of their private lables have issues...
  3. I get a pinching sensation in my upper abdomen just right of my epigastric region but not quite the RUQ. The best way I can explain it is that is feels like a rubber band is pulling and I feel the tension as the tighter it is stretched. I developed this 15 months after I went gluten free. I do sometimes get minor discomfort, sometimes slight pain in the...
  4. It is estimated that about 10% of celiacs react to the protein(avenin) in oats(even pure gluten free oats) and I am unfortunately one of them. I can't even tolerate cross contamination from them in gluten free products. You could drop the gluten free oats for a bit and see how you feel. You can challenge them later and see if your symptoms return.
  5. I haven't noticed any changes in my oldest son's allergies so far. However, he has only been gluten free since the end of August so probably to soon to notice. He does not have any allergies to foods, but he does have IgE allergies to dust, cockroaches, mold, some tree pollens, ragweed and a few other weeds. He has done allergy shots since he was six,...

    ARCHIVED Weight Gain

During my pregnancy with my youngest son, I had only gained 10 pounds by 25 weeks. My doctor was suprised. I was very pregnant looking and had a pretty good baby belly. However, I was slightly overweight when I got pregnant. I am 5' 7" and I weighed 170 lbs when I got pregnant. I weighed in at 199 lbs at 39 wks 4 days when I delivered. They remainder...
  7. There is nothing wrong with bringing your own food that is safe. What you need to do is take charge and do what is necessary for yourself, regardless of what anyone else thinks, even hubby. I'm the type of person who doesn't really care what people think of me bringing my own stuff. If asked, I keep my answer short and to the point. Hub has mixed feelings...
  8. BTW, I want to know how to talk both out of my mouth and my rear end at the same time. Because that is what this guy is doing...
  9. Good point. I never had any problem getting my insurance to pay for the testing for the children. I'm not sure exactly how they coded it. I think they put an ICD9 code that was relevant to the test, like abd pain etc.
  10. Open Original Shared Link It is a prescription pancreatic enzyme. I was prescribed it back in Aug. 2010 when I was having severe fat malabsorption. It, along with another elimination diet was a last ditch effort to avoid steriods. I had been having issues for 8 months. I was able to quit taking it after about 3 months(I became constipated). I had...
  11. Your doctor is a twit. One minute he is saying you have celiac (not outright, but when he is saying to get your kids tested because of your positive biopsy), then says you don't have celiac. Despite your negative bloodwork, you are diagnosed celiac based on your biopsy results. You could always get a second opinion if you need the diagnosis. At the very...
  12. I had horrible tachycardia when my ferritin was in the toilet. Have you had a full iron panel and ferritin test? If your thyroid is hyper then you could have tachycardia from that also. You need to find a good endocrinologist. If that checks out fine then maybe a cardiologist. My normal resting heart rate is higher than the average and I'm very sensitive...
  13. What tests did the doctor run? A lot of the time doctors don't run the full panel. Here is a list of all the tests. total IgA IgA/IgG tTG(tissue transglutaminase) IgA/IgG DGP(deamidated gliadin peptide) IgA EMA(endomysial antibody) Testing in children can be unreliable yeilding a higher rate of false negatives. In hindsite I think my youngest...
  14. Yes I would ask for the blood tests again. Unfortunately when you had your scope your doctor may not have taken enough samples. Celiac damage can be spotty. A minimum of 8-11 samples need to be taken. Even then you could get a false negative. The blood tests to ask for are: total IgA IgA/IgG tTG(tissue transglutaminase) IgA/IgG DGP(deamidated...
  15. I tend to stick to a bland diet when I get glutened. I will do chicken broth, rice, plain meats, baked potatoes, eggs etc. I try not to overdue it with fat since I tend to get fat malabsorption when glutened. I take RX creon when I get like that too but that is just me. Hope you feel better soon.
  16. I hear stories like this at work.
  17. I don't have a clue, but I can say that I haven't taken any antibiotics for at least 4 years now. I have gotten sick, the flu last year and right now I'm getting over some viral head thing, but I seem to be getting over it quicker than my hubby did.
  18. Make sure you don't take the probiotic at the same time as the antibiotic otherwise it will just kill it off too. Try to take it at least 4 hrs before or after you take the antibiotic if you can.
  19. I'm so gonna try these!
  20. I've found CVS to be less than helpful. Seems every time I needed a RX I had to jump through hoops to get any information. I was told by a pharmacist that they don't have internet access or manufacturers phone numbers. I was instructed to go home look it up on my own. One time I asked to see a package insert to review the inactive ingredients because...
  21. I was prescribed verapamil last year. I only took a few of the tablets, so I can't really say if it helped or not. I haven't taken anything for it otherwise and I am having a better time with it this winter. Air conditioners set me off too as well as getting stuff out of the freezer. Overall I feel better in general, wear gloves, socks/slippers, and a...
  22. Youngest son(7) had a positive tTG only but did not do a scope. We regretted it later so we tried to do a gluten challenge for the recommended time with the plans to get it done. He couldn't tolerate it and it only lasted three days he reacted so bad. We consider him diagnosed celiac without it anyway. My oldest son(11) has always(every year since...
  23. I don't see a connection for me. I've developed severval more on my neck in the last couple of years. I think if you are prone to getting them, you just do.
  24. Every time I went and they looked at the vaginal flora under the microscope no yeast cells were found. Now all I have to do is call and say I'm having symptoms "again" and they will call me in a RX for diflucan. It does work, but I think I need to be on it longer than taking 2 pills three days apart when it flares up. I love coconut oil and decided...
  25. Glad to hear that people can add things back in eventually. I'm going to see about testing next month. Would they check for that with stool testing? I've got a 6 month follow up to get my rheumatiod factor rechecked since it was slightly elevated before, so I can see about testing for yeast then. As far as the breast pain, the bra does not affect...
