The very first time I had my cholesterol and triglyceride checked the doctor told me I was one lucky person. My total cholesterol was under 90 and my triglyceride level was 4. The doctor said she had never seen a patient with a triglyceride level that low. Of course I didn't know any better myself. I had it rechecked one year after being gluten free and...

Roda replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My hair is naturally wavy and my hair has never been frizzy at all. If anything I find it great for wavy/curly hair. -
ARCHIVED Friends With Psoriasis
Roda replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get a terrible itch, dry flaky scalp and oozing sores on my head. I tried everthing to no avail. In the past I would have problems with styling products and would avoid said ones. So I thought maybe it was my shampoo and conditioner. So one day I decided to try the baking soda/water and apple cider vinegar/water on my hair. To my suprise it did... -
ARCHIVED Mrsa Infections And High Ana (No Lupus), Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor, Anyone Else?

My youngest son had a MRSA infection in his tonsils when he was 2 1/2 years old. He has not had a problem with it since. It took two rounds of clindimycin to get rid of it though. I have had him cultured a few times since and once this year when he got bad tonsillitis to rule out MRSA. He has been cultured when he was well also to make sure he wasn't colonized... -
ARCHIVED Strongly Suspecting Celiac. Does This Symptom Rule It Out?
Roda replied to sosickofbeingsick's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The lab order requisition form doesn't have to have every test listed on it to choose from. There should be a place that the doctor can hand write any particular tests that are not listed. -
ARCHIVED Going Gluten Free...welcome Day 40!
Roda replied to c-grote's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
After I was diagnosed I rid the house of all baking/cooking items that had gluten in it or was cross contaminated. I do not allow baking with regular flour at all. I decomtaminated the kitchen and dedicated a small area on the counter that my husband and kids could use for gluten items. The rest of the kitchen is strictly gluten free. All shared family... -
Two things come to mind as possible culprits: thyroid and anemia. Both can cause hair loss. Have you had your vitamin and minerals checked? As celiacs we tend to be deficient in iron, ferritin, vitamins A, B12, D, E, and K. Thyroid tests to get include TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), Thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb), and Thyroid...

ARCHIVED Discouraged And Worried
Roda replied to kelly79mass's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My youngest son was angry as well. He didn't like being the different kid and did not think it was fair when others were eating something he couldn't have even if he had a alternative. He was 5 when he was diagnosed. Luckily his kindergarden teacher was a blessing. Because of him and others in the classroom with allergies, the whole classroom was gluten... -
Even before I was diagnosed my hair and nails grew fast. However, there is a difference gluten free. My hair and nails are not as brittle, healthier looking and thicker. My nails always were very soft and would peel. I also would have white marks all over them. Now they are very strong and clear.

ARCHIVED In Hindsight, Anyone Regret Skipping The Endoscopy?
Roda replied to AGH2010's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When this child decides to do something he is committed and doesn't care what others think. I think the biggest motivation for him is that he has noticed weight gain, has grown 3" over the past year and does not have daily stomach aches anymore. I do worry though that when he gets older he will test the waters. If he does then it's his choice and will... -
ARCHIVED In Hindsight, Anyone Regret Skipping The Endoscopy?
Roda replied to AGH2010's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with this. In our case the tTG was the only thing elevated also. My youngest son did not have any other autoimmune diseases, and with his symptoms he was having at the time and his issues as a baby, in hindsite, I had no doubt in my mind that celiac was the issue. I even believe he was celiac as a baby now. I even attribute him as helping me... -
ARCHIVED Freezing Meals & Deep Freezer
Roda replied to ChelseaBelle's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I make waffles out of the gluten free Betty Crocker Bisquik mix. My kids and husband love them. They will defrost them and either eat them like that or put them in the toaster to get them crispy. For myself I like them toasted. I will make three to four batches and freeze them. They keep pretty well for me but they never last more than a few weeks. -

ARCHIVED My Biopsy Word For Word
Roda replied to troykm's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That is not entirely true. There is at least one member I'm aware of on here that is diagnosed celiac without those two associated genes. Ravenwoodglas. Maybe she will chime in. -
ARCHIVED I Look Pregnant!
Roda replied to patti-ann's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, I was overweight by about 20 pounds or so when I was diagnosed. Since diagnosis I have gained more weight. I don't think it is the gluten free diet that has made me gain weight though. I also have a thyroid problem, don't get enough exercise and work night shift which I feel has contributed to the weight gain considerably. -
I agree that the Sam Mills Pasta is good. It is the only gluten free pasta I've tried that I like. Even my gluten eating husband will eat it. I get it at a Mennonite store in our area and recently our Food City started carrying it. I've tried Schar, Tinkyada, Deboles and BioNature and disliked them all.

Who helps you grocery shop? If you have someone, would they be willing to help you out some in the kitchen? Do you have any family or friends that would be willing to come by say, once a week to help you make up some snacks/meals for the week? What about inquiring with a local Meals on Wheels program to see if they could provide gluten free meals? Do...

ARCHIVED Do Those With Only Gluten Sensitivity Have To Stop All Gluten ?
Roda replied to medicalenigma's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My oldest boy has been blood tested five times and each time negative. He had an EGD with a negative biopsy too. Here are the symptoms he had before gluten free: constipation since birth, got sick a lot, stomach aches/bloating, nausea, always small/low weight for age but was consistent on his growth curve until age 9 when he dropped and quit growing... -
ARCHIVED Apple Cin Chex And Eos Chapstick
Roda replied to Salax's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found the apple cinnamon Chex at our local Food City. I picked up two boxes and within a couple days one box was gone. I love them as a snack right out of the box. -
My oldest son had hives all over his body back in Feb.(not gluten related he has environmental allergies he does immunotherpy for). They lasted for 1.5 weeks. The itching became so unbearable I took him to our ED and they gave him steriods and epi IV. He was sent home with oral steriods to take over the next several days. Within an hour of the epi wearing...

I'm very pro breastfeeding and think it was the best choice for both of my boys. I cherrish the times we had alone bonding. My youngest son would nurse and play with my hair. To this day when he is tired or not feeling well he plays with it. So sweet. Well, I breast fed my celiac son for 16 months. In hindsite I think he had celiac as a baby but...

ARCHIVED The Gluten Toaster Oven Of Doom
Roda replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use my air compressor to blow out crumbs from my husbands toaster(the gluten toaster) and the gluten free toaster as well. After awhile the crumbs still build up even if you open the bottom and dump it. -

Roda replied to AGH2010's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I do regret not having the biopsy on my now 7 year old. At the time(he was 5 almost 6) I had taken him to a different allergist for retesting and asked if they would do the celiac panel also again. All his skin allergy testing came back negative but he did show positive on the IgA tTG on his celiac panel. For some reason the labs around here will not do... -
Well, I've had quite a fun time with my birds. I still have the original four and have added to them. I now have a total of nine hens and three roos. I am getting a total of 9 eggs a day. The eggs are fertile so we are incubating about 30 some eggs at the moment. I hope we get some to hatch. I ended up butchering the quail myself because the husband...
