ARCHIVED Refractory Sprue
Roda replied to clee123's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Here is a reply I got from Udi's: I seem to do allright with Udi's, but that could change. As soon as I can get up to our local Earth Fare to get some Glutino Genius bread, if it is as good as some here claim, I'm going to switch. Here are some brands that I tolerate fine: -Ener G -Betty Crocker gluten free mixes -Kinnikinnick... -
ARCHIVED Testing Question
Roda replied to graciebean's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From a celiac testing stand point it is not worth it to have a biopsy because of the high likelyhood that it will be normal. If you are having other problems or concerns that would warrent the procedure, do consider it. There are lots of other things an EGD(upper endoscopy) can look and test for. -
Do your hands or fingers get cold, turn white or blue, then flush and get red? It is possible you have raynauds. It's just another fun autoimmune problem. Unless it is really bad no treatment is necessary. Just make sure you keep your hands and feet warm. I find also if I keep my core body temp. normal then I have less problems too.

You may want to make sure the dermatologist knows how to properly biopsy for DH. I don't have it, but from what I understand they need to biopsy the clear skin next to the lesion and not the lesion itself. I think the antibodies they test for are in the skin adjacent to the DH lesions. There are others on here that know more about it. https://www...

ARCHIVED Took Gluten Out And Feeling No Pain
Roda replied to addis001's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did your doctor even test you for celiac with blood work? There is also a good chance if they were not looking for celiac at the time you had your upper scope that the doctor didn't biopsy for it. Or if they did biopsy, then not enough samples were taken. For some reason doctors only like to take a couple and you need a minimum of 8-11 taken just in the... -
ARCHIVED Confused, Frustrated, Upset And Tired Of High Ttg Levels
Roda replied to Nannu's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You mentioned you were grinding all your flours. Could the grinder been used for gluten grains prior? Does she tolerate pure gluten free oats? There are approximately 15% of celiacs that don't tolerate even gluten free oats at all and can be sensitive to cross contamination from them in gluten free products. I wouldn't be to quick to dismiss her previous... -
This was my youngest son except he didn't have the ear infections but recurrent rhinosinusitus with the rest of it. By eliminiting the things in my diet I knew bothered him(rice, oats, dairy, tree nuts) is what eventually lead me to find out I had celiac(I was gluten light without even knowing it). Weird how things come full circle, because my son was diagnosed...

ARCHIVED Soy Sauce- Not Gluten Free?
Roda replied to cassP's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jade Dragon soy sauce does not have any gluten ingredients: hydrolyzed soybean and corn protein, water, corn syrup, salt, carmel color. We use it for our jerkey and I've not had a reaction yet. The important thing is to read the ingredients. "Most" soy sauce has wheat in it, but there are a few that don't. -
ARCHIVED Ah~Ha! Finally Figured It Out!
Roda replied to lucky28's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Were you using the spices before you were gluten free? Any chance that it could have been CC'd at your house? Is there anything else ingredient wise in it like an anticaking agent that you possiblly could be having trouble with? Just some ideas to toss at you. Glad your feeling better. -

I agree. Just because I can't tolerate BRM, doesn't mean that others can't. They do a great job with gluten free and I really like their company. It's just unfortunate for me that I can't eat their products. It is NOT a gluten reaction, but MY secondary intolerence. -
ARCHIVED I Feel Like The Worst Mom Ever!
Roda replied to Ginger7's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your not a bad mom. You are a good mom for picking up on this. Sometimes we look at things with a new perspective after we figure things out with ourselves. I didn't know anything about gluten or celiac after I had my youngest son. He had so many issues as a baby and as a result I eliminated dairy, rice, oats, and tree nuts from my diet. In hindsite... -

Roda replied to clee123's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi USF1970! I hate to hear that you are having a bad time. For the first 10 months of 2010 I had horrible symptoms(diagnosed in 10/2008) up until this time I had improved greatly. I thought I had a problem with my gallbladder, and I do to a point, but it ends up I was reacting terrible to gluten free oat cross contamination. It took over a year to really... -
The ingredients "seem" safe but you should contact the company just to be sure. If you have a Walgreens close by their store brand of pseudoephedrine is gluten free. The box I bought stated "gluten free" on the box. I've also taken Mucinex D.

ARCHIVED Confused
Roda replied to xraylady65's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat Jello brand all the time. It is made by Kraft. Kraft is one of the good companies that will clearly disclose gluten on their lables. After I was fist diagnosed I went and consulted with a dietician. For me it was a waste of time. I knew just as much as her if not more. She gave me some pamplets that were outdated. I pointed out to her that... -

We eat them without problems also. However, everyone's sensitivity level is different. You'll just have to try them and see. -

Yeah, have you seen their shipping? The last time I checked it was a lot. I may have to bite the bullet and order in the future though. -

ARCHIVED "borderline" Celiac
Roda replied to ctenny's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is so true. I see this all the time at work. They are fine calling something negative, but very hesitant to call it positive. Ranges are guidlines, but not everyone is going to fall exactly in those ranges. How can a test tell you for sure what is "normal" for you? Like I said it is good to have guidelines, but it is important to recognize that... -
ARCHIVED I'm + Celiac...best Way To Test My Children?
Roda replied to traciknop's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Definately start with the blood testing. Tests include: total IgA IgA/IgG tTG(tissue transglutaminase) IgA/IgG DGP(deamidated gliadin peptide) IgA EMA(endomysial antibody) If any are positive you may want to get more testing done such as a scope/biopsy. If they are negative on blood work and are not symptomatic then perdiocally have them tested... -

Hey Sylvia, so far I tolerate Pocono brand cream of buckwheat cereal. It's from Birkett Mills too. I can't get the kasha around here. -
ARCHIVED Waiting For Biopsy Results..
Roda replied to Jsny1010's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It doesn't mean a hill of beans that he said your intestines looked alright visibally with his eye. The pathologist has to look at it microscopically. I was told by my GI that my intestinal lining look mostly good with only slight inflammation. My biopsy was positive with villi blunting. Even with that and my positive blood work he "gave" me the option... -
ARCHIVED Mood Symptoms From Glute/celiac
Roda replied to Julie122967's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My 7 year old had mood issues when he was on gluten and they return if he has been exposed. He had GI issues as well. He had extreme mood swings, feelings would get hurt easily and would cry at the drop of a hat, bad temper tantrums and would fixate on something and exhibit OCD like behavior with it. -

Youngest son(age 7): delayed umbilical separation(2.5 months old before it came off)horrible reflux, chronic rhinosinusitis and strep, food reactions to dairy/rice/oatmeal/treenuts(he would either get hives or a rash on his head), yeast overgrowth in bowel from to many antibiotics, thrush and yeast infections in groin area, reactive airway disease(probably... -
ARCHIVED Son With Possible Celiac And Fecal Impaction
Roda replied to maxsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My oldest son(11) had chronic constipation since birth. Nothing worked. It got really bad at around 18 months. I was told to give him lots and lots of apple juice. When that didn't work it was mineral oil mixed with the juice several times a day..YUCK!. Of course that didn't work either so we went on to fleets enemas and suppositories. Nope, didn't... -

Your not the only one that has had this issue. I've been battling skin yeast infections in the perianal region. Not fun. I agree with the diaper rash ointment. Even though my kids are 7 and 11, I still keep it on hand. Also liquid anticid works well when you have the D and your bottom gets raw from the acidity. It helps neutralize it and heal it. My...
