  1. Greg, I sincerely wish you were celiac. Good luck in your fight, I lost my mother to pancreatic cancer in 2002 but I also know of some people who fought for years, well beyond their doctor's prognosis. in your search for how to help yourself take a look at artemisinin, not a cure (nothing is ) and not in place of more traditional therapies, rather...
  2. Hi Sleepymommy and welcome to the forum, your journey certainly has been a tough one! there are a few people with narcolepsy that is affected by gluten on this forum, caek-is-a-lie is one and she has a thread about it Here
  3. prior to this year I rarely went to the MD, so a lot of stuff I just "powered" through until it got so bad I had to have some help: Thyroid (repeatedly); reflux, stress and mono....upon reflection this was the most bizarre one, afterall who the heck get's over mono in a week?
  4. if you do decide to get tested for celiac please keep eating gluten, if you don't the tests could be inconclusive.
  5. I know this is being pushed by kevin trudeau of the "establishment is hiding the truth from you but I'll tell you as long as you pay to join my website" fame, so I admit to being suspicious of the plan. in his book he does mention the originator of the diet (it's not trudeau) and such a diet concept has been around for quite a number of years but has always...
  6. could you define "unexplained and untreatable acne"....the reason: I had what I thought was unexplained acne and after a trip to the derm she explained that it was cystic acne caused by a hormonal imbalance, quite often seen in women 35+ who've had children (not sure if this applies to you or not). I'm on a med that is also commonly used to treat PCOS and...
  7. white wine, hard cider, potato vodkas once or twice a week....I'm also someone who avoids grain based alcohols, I can have 1 drink of Absolut in a martini but the second one makes me feel nauseous and then I get insomnia the funny thing that I noticed is that when I do drink I feel it first in my thighs????? in other words I feel like it goes straight...
  8. Thanks for clearing my confusion!
  9. sorry about that, as I said I'm not a medical professional! I should have said "end stage of the disease" (this is not like end stage of cancer, rather you can be sick for years while ingesting gluten but until you show some sort of damage to the villi you cannot be diagnosed as a celiac) so as not to confuse you any more here's some links about diagnosis...
  10. I have to admit I'm skeptical for a couple of reasons, first given how darn difficult it is to diagnose and how few have actually been diagnosed I'm surprised they'd be able to find a "cure" for something they can't even identify in 2/3 people. secondly the whole "injecting with gluten" part of the trial....there have been huge debates in this forum...
  11. the short answer is No, you don't need to be tested. Some feel it's easier because there is less resistance to having a gluten-free diet if you have an official diagnosis but as many have said you don't need a Dr's permission to go gluten-free. I'm self diagnosed, my Dr is a wonderful guy but old school and has trouble with the fact that I am not losing...
  12. there's a thread in "coping with" that talks about a rain barrel effect that is similar to what you are describing. for me it made a lot of sense as I had been unknowingly gluten lite for years and only noticed the gut symptoms (I have brain symptoms first when glutened) if I ate wheat 2 x a day or a couple of days in a row.
  13. hi there and welcome to the forum! You've come to a good place for information and support. Testing positive for celiac is like testing positive for pregnancy, there are no "false positives" (although with celiac there are plenty of false negatives) if you are showing positive on a blood test then your body is having an autoimmune reaction to gluten...
  14. for an adult I've seen mentioned here about 3-4 slices of bread per day
  15. yep! had chronic C for years, went gluten-free and now have D if I ingest gluten. in fact sometimes I get that wonderful C + D thing going....why? I haven't the foggiest notion; but it's safe to say you are not unique in that respect. I would look for hidden sources of gluten, especially at the beginning it's easy to miss bits of gluten (also check your...
  16. I use coconut flour quite regularly, often mixed with finely ground almonds (I agree with one more mile, almond flour is expensive but it's worth it....as long as you don't need a super fine texture finely ground almonds work just as well, especially in brownies!!) the main thing with coconut flour is to increase the number of eggs in the recipe (they...
  17. Hi Jan and welcome you've come to a great place for information and encouragement. at this point the best thing you can do is eat "simple": rice, potato, meats, eggs, nuts (if you aren't allergic), fruits and vegetables, use salt and pepper for spicing (unless you are TOTALLY confident that the spices are gluten free....McCormicks tends to be a brand...
  18. yeah! a recipe for these....I LOVE these, I buy them locally in various flavours but they are expensive! thanks for posting the link
  19. Like Peter I use the VH brand soy sauce, also their other sauces as they clearly label any "trouble" ingredients. I'm not sure about China Lily but did find this post in the forum: as for ones NOT to use in Canada: Kikkoman and Lee Kum Kee, both clearly list wheat in the ingredients (actually all the LKK stuff is troublesome darn it!...
  20. me too! canker sores for certain and I 've always had chapped lips but never had associated it with the gluten (and I only use lip balm occasionally) I also get a very dry throat at the same time, as taweavmo3 said probably due to dehydration but it only seems to show up if I get glutened
  21. the celiac panel checks for specific antibodies in your blood that show that your immune system is attacking your body as a reaction to the gluten you've ingested the allergy tests try to provoke a histimane reaction to a specific food/substance it is possible to be both celiac/gluten intolerant AND allergic to wheat
  22. Oil pulling is an Ayurvedic therapy said to help/cure a variety of symptoms, there's a thread in Gab/Chat about it if you so inclined (it's also very popular in low carb forums, not sure what the connection is)
  23. While it definitely could be gluten, bear in mind that depending on where you are there is a nasty bug going around that causes fatigue, achiness, fever chills etc I had it this weekend (still have some of it) and so have most of the people in our office.
  24. found Open Original Shared Link which discusses Starbucks gluten-free status, it's an American site but perhaps worthwhile to note
  25. Hi Chris and welcome to the forum. yes you should feel better going gluten free....how long that takes is entirely personal and usually depends on how severe your reaction to gluten is/was. for me the joint pain takes a couple of days to go away, the headaches disappeared almost instantly and the nails, that takes time because your body has to...
