  1. I use ONLY gluten-free supplements. I used to do the Health store thing for them but found in my local grocer (Cub, which is a Supervalue grocer) a brand called Nature Made and it says gluten-free right on the package! ClanThompson also has a listing of gluten-free supplements. Any person who says that it doesn't really matter has not had to make a B-line...
  2. there is a gluten-free bakery near me. Recently I went there and asked about the Ranger Cookies that they had for sale. the baker and owner, I believe, gave me a sheet explaining that their oats were gluten-free. They are produced on a farm in Canada where the oats are NOT rotated with wheat. I was really skeptical but tried the cookies anyway. Lucky...
  3. I make stuffing using gluten-free bread.... I make it several different ways. At first, I would dry out the bread in the oven but I really don't even do that anymore. I just add a little less liquid as the bread is not dried out. I would think that you could use any bread stuffing recipe as long as you use gluten-free bread. It was several years before...
  4. My mom used to make a fruit cake like that. Only she made it right after Xmas and "fed" it brandy (aprocot, as I recall) for the next 12 months. It was really good. she kept it in the fridge downstairs...until it was really "ready" for xmas day!!!!! When you said "fed" in your recipe, you were talking about filling the hole with brandy.... or do you...
  5. I had mono my first year of teaching. I was 21. It took a good year before I really felt better. I caught everything that was going around which is a lot when you are surrounded by 30+ kids every day. I was also exhausted and tired for a really long time. Regardless of what the docs say, I think it takes a really long time for the immune system to get...
  6. Just a question, what is gluten guard????
  7. Thank you so very much. Your list will really be helpful... especially for dinner. Thank you so very much. I am looking forward to a gluten-free vacation!!!!
  8. Just wanted to add my 2 cents about the headaches... I suffered from migraines for about 40 years and when I went gluten-free, the migraines ended!!!!! I can even eat things that were once triggers... communion wine, chocolate, caffeine..... BUT what I did want to mention is that your symptoms sound like a rebound headache. I had one about 10 years ago...
  9. We are staying at the Excalibur. Walking is kind of a problem for me but there is always the shuttle and/or taxis. My step son is having a birthday while we are there and they would like to go to somewhere really nice and out of the ordinary. We are from Minneapolis so have lots of great food here (not always gluten-free) so I think someplace nice with...
  10. We are going to Vegas the end of the month and would like to know if anyone out there can give me some advice as to where we can go and have a nice dinner, cheap lunch, snacks (besides the M&M museum...), food in general, without me having to scope out the bathrooms first. I want to have a good time and not put a crimp in everyone else's good time. ...
  11. I am really sorry that you are experiencing all of this. It is difficult enough to deal with all sorts of symptoms only to have the medical community ignore your pleas for help. One of the biggest issues for me was the fact that celiac disease was not even a consideration for me because of my weight. I suffered through lots of other symptoms (from colon...
  12. I almost never use a recipe for soup .... just a color chart!!!! I start out with some kind of stock... beef, chicken, turkey... I make my own by browning the meat and then simmering it so that it gets really tender. I always freeze any leftover gravy or broth when I cook a roast or fowl and use it in the soup base. I also use store bought gluten...
  13. Maybe I will give it a try again. I am getting pretty desperate. I really hate being in pain all the time. My doc just looks at me and says "Of course, you are in pain. You are overweight. Lose weight and the pain will stop." I know that the weight has something (maybe a lot to do with the pain...but so does the neuropathy and the extremely flat feet...
  14. I wish that I had experienced the amazing results that most of you are posting. I tried acupunture for pain. I have neuropathy and cannot take the meds that are prescribed for the pain so my neurologist suggested acupuncture and aquatic therapy. It took several weeks to hook up with the aquatic therapy so I was doing acupuncture for 4 weeks.... (1-2 times...
  15. I use the dry mix and follow the directions to a T..... and bake them only 18 minutes. Since I have always liked chewy brownies, I like them soft and gooey in the middle. They go into the oven looking too dry but that is just the way they are! They certainly do not spread like gluten brownies in the pan but I bake them one parchment paper and shape them...
  16. Type 2 diabetis here. My blood sugars stabalized after I was diagnosed. I take 10 mg of glipizide at night and diet controls the rest. I know that if I am glutened and I get really sick and my blood sugars usually bottom out. I think that is strange as is the fact that my bs have always been higher in the am (in spite of 10 - 12 hrs of no food). My doc...
  17. Thanks for the replies. I will look into the herbal stuff. Benedryl makes me really groggy so I try to stay away from that. I stop drinking caffeine (if I have any) around noon...but will try giving up my tea.
  18. Gotta love a store that does that!!! I was recently in Iowa (lots of family there) and I was looking for Old Wisconsin brand brats (they are marked gluten-free). I was shopping at a Hy-Vee. The butcher said they didn't carry that brand but took me to their section on gluten-free foods and also told me some of their meat was gluten-free. It seems that...
  19. I know what you mean about going to the doc. If my insurance hadn't changed every 5 years or so in the last 20, my medical file(s) would fill an entire filing cabinet and require a whole legion of nurse's just to bring it in!!!! As it is, I can always tell which file is mine as it requires its own space in the "going to see the doc" area. BUT seriously...
  20. I have type 2 diabetis and for the last 4 years my HbA1c has been between 6 and 6.5. It has stabalized since going gluten-free. Yes, I have the Pernocious (sp) anemia and the shots are forever. I am just tired of the constant pain and tingling and all the other symptoms. I have symptoms in my hands and lower arms as well as my tongue (that just started...
  21. I have peripheral neuropathy...on Vitamin B12 shots and take B complex vitamins. I also have diabetis. My neurologist thinks the neuropathy is related to both malabsorbsion issues (celiac disease) as well as diabetis. My other celiac disease symptoms seem to be getting better but the neuropathy is getting worse.... is this just something that I will have...
  22. I have been going through a period of having a really hard time getting to sleep. I have always slept a lot with maybe one night a month of not sleeping. Now it seems that I am up and down all night long. I have sleep apnea so I use the CPAP machine. I am not snoring again as my hubby would let me know that. I don't know if my body is changing or what...
  23. I had been ill for about 20 years with bouts of explosive D and a whole lot of vomiting. I had migraines, depression, upper GI problems, colon cancer, muscle aches and pains, nueropathy, fertility problems, horrible periods, emotional outbursts, brain fog, fatigue. After a year of being so ill that I was missing lots of work, I finally went into the hospital...
  24. My daughter has seizures, IBS, and has had difficulty getting pregnant. I have been doing lots of reading here and her symptoms sound like they could be gluten related. She is going to her neurologist this week and after reading some of the articles that I pointed out to her, she has decided to talk to him about celiac disease. Specifically what tests...
  25. I don't understand why your child needs to go through the endoscopy if the test came back positive for celiac disease. A positive diagnosis is a positive diagnosis...what more can the endoscopy prove??? I wouldn't subject my child to this unless the doc could give me a really VALID reason. It seems to me that with a posivie test result for celiac disease...
