  1. YEP.... When you start worrying about being old, YOU ARE!
  2. Depending on where you are from, Fresh and Natural is a grocery store that has MANY, MANY gluten-free products. If they are in your area, they are worth the trip. When I first went in, I was amazed. They have shelves of gluten-free products.... as well as a freezer shelves full of gluten-free products. Google Fresh and Natural and see if they are in your...
  3. I am not sure where you are from but I live in the Twin Cities, MN, and there is a MN brand, Mrs. Gerry's, that will send a list of their gluten-free products. Cub carries their salads in the refrigerator case in front of deli and basically, their deli salads are Mrs. Gerry's. I buy the containers that are packed at the plant to avoid cc in the deli area...

    ARCHIVED Wildfire ?

Lots of kids but it was Mother's Day.... no one seemed to mind. The Wildfire in Eden Prairie, MN, is divided up into several dining rooms so it is not like all the noise is in one area. I think if you go to dinner at an early time (not the child's bedtime) no one really minds kids being in a place even a nice one. I must admit though that when parents...

    ARCHIVED Wildfire ?

I had a hamburger WITH A BUN, "wildfire" salad with balsamic dressing, au gratin potatoes, and a flourless chocolate cake with ice cream. It was very good.... a little pricey... but it was fun to go somewhere and order off the menu without having to make a big deal out of how it was going to be prepared. Everything was delicious. The bun would have been...

    ARCHIVED Wildfire ?

My kids are taking me to Wildfire for Mother's Day. Any suggestions as to what is good? I checked the internet and it looks like they have a fairly extensive gluten-free menu. Though prices were not on the menu, I am thinking that it is pricey. Any comments?????
  7. I hate having not been diagnosed sooner (symptoms for 30 years). I really wonder what my life would have been like.... I am 60 now.... if I had known sooner. PERHAPS NO migraines, depression, colon cancer, fertility problems, numerous stomach and digestive problems, neuropathy, joint pain, etc, etc, etc..... (Today is a poor me day!)
  8. I tried acupuncture for neuropathy. It did not help.... They suggested herbal remedies but since they could not tell me all the ingredients, I didn't try the herbal remedies.
  9. Since discovering Whole Foods in Bloomington, MN, I have found several different kinds of bread that actually make good sandwiches. Unfortunately, I have gained 10# (which I do NOT need) and think it is time to give up the luxury of a sandwich for lunch and go back to leftovers. The bread, though good, is high in calories and not the size of a regular slice...
  10. Just wanted to add my 2 cents about migraines and celiac disease. I sufferED (NOTE the past tense) from migraines for years and years and years. I had up to 3 migraines a WEEK sometimes. The normal migraine medicine did not help. As I got older the migraines lessened to 1 every week or two but at 55, I was still experiencing them. I went gluten-free...
  11. thanks... I cannot wait to try it!!! We may begin a new "OLD" family tradition at holidays!!!!
  12. This is probably a really stupid question, BUT is cornflour just cornstarch??? This sounds like the stuff my grandma used to make. It was fabulous except I could never get my grandmother's recipe to turn out correctly. She was notorious for leaving out one ingredient so no one could copy her recipes and have them turn out as good as hers. The recipe...
  13. I didn't notice Bittersweet Bakery things there. I go to the Bittersweet Bakery in Eagan and do love the cookies!!! I will be thrilled to find those cookies at Fresh and Natural. Have you ever tried "Madwoman" frozen pizza. Fresh and Natural carries them at the Bloomington store. They are a Mnpls bakery located on Nicolet and 48th (or so). Anyway, their...
  14. sorry about the typo in the topic.... but I don't know how to edit the topic... so I guess it stands as written!
  15. I just visited a new grocery store on Penn Ave S and 90th St in Bloomington, MN. It is called Fresh and Natural. It is awesome. I have never seen so many gluten-free products in one place! I have shopped Trader Joe's and Whole Foods and this store puts their stores to shame. They don't just have one tiny section of gluten-free products, they have shelf...
  16. Just wanted to put in some info about pizza.... I buy a gluten-free pizza (personal size) from a bakery called Mad Woman bakery in Minneapolis. I know that they have this pizza in Whole Foods up here. I do not know if they have it in all the Whole Foods store but it is really good. They sell several kinds and the crusts by themselves. I have tried lots...
  17. I just had my first encounter at Whole Foods last week and was disappointed in the "Gluten Free" section. It contained crackers that are made in a plant that also processes wheat. Not only were they in the gluten-free section but the box states that they are gluten-free. I really do not understand how manufacturers can claim a product is gluten-free if...
  18. I am sorry that you are feeling upset. I know that over the years things have been said and done to me because of my diagnosis that have left me feeling very left out and vulnerable.... BUT with age comes a little wisdom. I now bring my own food in my own tupperware container which I do NOT share with anyone. I have enough servings for me and I heat it...
  19. Please HELP me.... I need a root canal and am wondering what specific products that the dentist might use that contain gluten. When I went in with the toothache, I reminded him that I am a celiac and he gave me this really blank stare. I explained the situation and his response was "I don't think any of the stuff I use would have gluten/" I ended up getting...
  20. Just curious who is Dr. Saviano????
  21. I have peripheral neuropathy in feet, legs, arms, hands. The burning sensation and the tingling are not signs of healing... at least in my understanding.... but rather the symptoms of the neuropathy. I see a neurologist and though I am diabetic she feels that the my neuropathy is also caused from malabsorbtion of vitamins and minerals specifically the B...
  22. Just had to add that after being gluten-free since May of 2002, I ate Prime Rib on Christmas Day that I knew had gluten in it. I won't go into the reasons behind this stupid decision.... other than I was feeling sorry for myself for not being able to indulge in all that wonderful looking gluten filled food. Of course, I got sick.... When I got up the...

ARCHIVED I Found A Great Doctor!

I live in Bloomington and would like to know the name of the doc that you saw. My primary doc really frustrates me. I am overweight and she says if you ate less you would lose weight. I think that part of my difficulty in losing weight is being a celiac. I know for those of you whose symptoms included weight loss, this is hard to understand but I think...
  24. The walnut etc salad sounds delicious..... I am making a prime rib also but am thinking about searing it in a hot oven and then putting it in the crock pot as I have to take it to my son's house. Anyone ever tried this????? I thought that it might work as I cook it in a slow oven after searing it in a hot oven.... any thoughts on this one?????
