ARCHIVED Anyone Know How To Reheat Gluten-free Pasta?
sparkles replied to beaglemania's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I always cook more gluten-free pasta than I need and then freeze what is left over in plastic bags. When I use it, I put it frozen in a colander and run hot water over it. The hot water heats the pasta and thaws it at the same time. I do the same thing if I am reheating the pasta and it has been in the refrigerator. I have done this for years with non... -
ARCHIVED Alice In Wonderland Syndrome (vision Disturbances)
sparkles replied to acousticmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I didn't know that there was a name for it but when I was having migraines, I experienced it. In fact, that was often the aura that told me that I would be having a migraine within 24 hours. It was just like being in a House of Mirrors. When I first started having these disturbances, I thought that I was hallucinating (guess I was) and the docs just told... -
As icky as colonoscopies are, one saved my life! I had colon cancer.....HAD being the operative word there. No matter how scary the test, the diagnosis can save your life. Hang in there....whatever they find was there before the test and would be there even if you chose not to have the test. In my humble opinion, it is better to know what you have and...

sparkles replied to Lexis's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Are they gooey like real choc chip cookies or are they more cakey? I like the gooey kind and miss the real ones and would like to have one every once in awhile! Thanks.... -

ARCHIVED Great Paper On The Neurological Manifestations
sparkles replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The paper was really interesting. I am sending it to my neurologist and my primary doc. I have peripheral neuropathy and have not found any success with meds. Currently, I am trying Aquatic Therapy and accupunture. It is too early to tell if these will be successful. I have been gluten-free for 4 years and yet the neuropathy symptoms seem to have stayed... -
ARCHIVED Ridges In Fingernails
sparkles replied to lindalee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have them too.... always thought that they were due to some kind of vitamin/mineral deficiency... that does make sense since I am a celiac. But the nails have not improved since going gluten-free *4 years ago*!!!!! Plus fingernail polish will not stick to my nails. I have tried cleaning the nail really well but still no luck. I was getting my nails... -
ARCHIVED What Post Diagnosis Tests Should Be Done Yearly?
sparkles posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Some place (not sure if it was here or not) but there was a list of tests that should be done yearly if you are a celiac just to make sure that everything is working right. If you know of any such list, please let me know. I have a regular MD (internist) and I am sure that I know more about celiac's disease than she does. Does anyone see another kind of... -
ARCHIVED Why Am I Gaining Weight? Soooo Confused
sparkles replied to deena647's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I know where you are coming from....went gluten-free lost weight 30# and 4 years later have gained back 30# plus 10#!! It is really confusing and discouraging. My doc says I am eating way too much and yet I have diabetis and my blood sugars are really good.....the 3 month blood test proves it....so I know that I am eating the right things or else blood... -
I have been reading thread about acupuncture for the disease that we all have that we are not to discuss on this site.... all very interesting but I am wondering if anyone has tried acupuncture for chronic pain or weight loss. I have my first visit tomorrow. My insurance is NOT paying for this, though my nuerologist is the one who made the referral, so...

Outback is the ONLY restaurant that I really trust..... The wait staff and the manager have always gone out of their way to ensure that my food was gluten-free and that there was no cross contamination. If you think that the wait staff is a little young or just might not understand the necessity for gluten-free food, talk to the manager. Here in Bloomington...

There is so much cross contamination at restuarants....I don't trust many of them. Some places, like Outback Steak House (at least, the one in Bloomington, MN) really go out of their way to accomodate my diet. They even have a gluten-free menu and use a great deal of care to avoid cross contamination. Their "Thunder Down Under Brownie Sundae" is to die...

My husband and I went on a fishing trip to Canada. The people at the lodge were great....there are a lot of them out there.... They went out of their way to accomodate my diet. UNFORTUNATELY, I wasn't thinking about the shore lunches....they didn't bread my fish...cooked it on foil so as to not contaminate the fish BUT I did have the fried potatoes which...

ARCHIVED Have You Done A Gluten Challenge?
sparkles replied to ebrbetty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just read your post and wanted to say something about the colonoscopy. Before I was diagnosed with celiac disease, I had lots of gastro symptoms.... One of them was blood in the stools. Doctor went ahead and scheduled colonoscopy and did a stool sample test. I was lucky. Someone canceled an appointment and I got the colonoscopy done immediately (before... -
ARCHIVED Why Are Friends, Family And Others So Uncomfortable W/gluten Restriction?
sparkles replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sometimes I think family and friends like to challenge our determination to stick with a gluten-free diet. The other day we were invited to a family BBQ and I offered to bring my own food because that way I know that it is gluten-free not just what someone envisions is gluten-free. They said no we are just having hamburgers....safe, I thought! Until I... -
I just read through your post and the replies because I too am considering surgery for weight loss.... But what struck me the most was the pain that you are feeling. There is a lot going on in your life... a lot of sadness and depression. The food thing, especially since you know that Gluten is not your friend, is just the tip of the iceberg. Don't punish...

ARCHIVED Have A List Of "no-no" Ingredients--are All Of These Really No-nos?
sparkles replied to jabberwife's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have a favorite food that has one of the "forbidden ingredients" in it, email the company and ask them if the product in question is gluten free. "Caramel Color" might or might not contain gluten depending on how it is processed.... That is only one example; unfortunately, there are lots of different ways to process foods and process some of the... -

ARCHIVED In Need Of A gluten-free Laxative
sparkles replied to sparkles's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, I am uncomfortable and bloated.....eating veggies and drinking lots of water... and still no results that are what I am looking for. I know that if I get gluttened I will get cleaned out but that is not what I am looking for! -
Sorry to hear that you are going crazy...but glad to hear that I am not alone. It does get to be overwhelming sometimes...and depressing....and I must admit, I am tired of explaining for the zillionith time this darn diet and why I can't just cheat "a little". Right now the whole celiac thing is really getting to me... I am supposed to go to a banquet...

ARCHIVED In Need Of A gluten-free Laxative
sparkles posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
After going gluten-free 4 years ago, my years of explosive diahrea are over but now am experiencing constant constipation. It seems like I can only go every 2-3 days. I know the answer is fiber and I must not be getting enough in my diet so am looking for a laxative that is gluten-free and will not cause explosions! I drink lots of water so that is not... -
ARCHIVED Overweight Before I Was Diagnosed. Has Anyone Lost Weight Since Going Gluten Free?
sparkles replied to jacklyn1981's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
June of 2002, I was finally diagnosed with celiac disease. I immediately went gluten-free eating only fresh veggies, lettuce with oil and cider vinegar or lemon and hamburger patty. I was afraid to put anything into my mouth and reading ingredients to discover if any had gluten was just too overwhelming. I lost about 30#, going from 220 to 190 in 4 months... -
So Ursala, WHAT do you eat? I looked at the list of foods that your intolerances won't allow and WOW... I thought gluten-free was overwhelming.... It looks to me like there isn't much on your food list. I know that I am sounding very whiny but I can't even imagine how you deal with cooking much less eating at friends' houses or going out to eat. When...

My doctor is suggesting I look into surgery to lose weight. I was overweight when I went gluten-free about 220, lost 30# right at first, and have since gained the weight back plus more.... Now I am really struggling with weight loss. My doc has suggested the surgery to lose weight but I am looking at it and wondering why I would want surgery that uses...
